Just What I Needed


Have you ever gone for a good while without a great run? Where they just all seemed bad, or mediocre, and you gradually start to lose confidence without even realizing it? Well, that has been happening to me. Being injured sucks, but so does coming back from an injury. It’s hard to not expect to be able to go right back to the way things were before you got hurt. I started thinking back, and my last really GOOD run I can remember was when we were training for theRun for Life Half Marathon, and Bobby and I ran a ten mile training run where I just felt great, and smiled the whole time. This is all great and everything…except that run was at the end of September if I remember correctly!

Well, today, I FINALLY had a good run! It was just a three mile run, but I felt good (except for the last mile where I felt like I was going to throw up from pushing hard) and I ran fast. Faster than I have since my injury! I clocked in at 28:30, and I have never been happier to run at a 9:30 pace! For awhile there I was really wondering if I would ever be able to run distances again, let alone at a good pace. Granted, I was dying when I was done and couldn’t have held that pace much longer, but it is definitely a start! That run was just what I needed to boost my confidence and stoke that fire that keeps me running. I don’t think I realized how much I was really needing a good run until it happened. 

So, I am happy today, and ready to finish up my marathon training. Smile 

As we creep closer to Christmas, I thought I would share my excitement with you with a few snapshots.

    I went months without an even decent run during marathon training. It was terrible especially since I couldn’t figure out why it was happening. But now that I’ve cut out lactose, I’ve had so many great runs. It’s amazing!

  2. Congratulations on a GREAT run! I had one of those days too! I haven’t had a good run since November 9th, a few days before I injured my IT bands. Since then, I have had some pretty crappy runs, but today, I had my fastest 5 mile run EVER (it was only a second faster than my November 9th run but still!).

    Feel’s great huh?

  4. I felt the same way Sunday! I signed up for the Disney Princess half and then got too busy to run. I began to think I couldn’t run over 5 miles. I even had dreams about running. The weather has been awful, my kids have needed me and I just did not hit the pavement. Then…Sunday I started out for a 5 mile run and made it 7! I ran a PR too. Keep going! These good days will motivate us!

  5. Congrats on a great run! You can’t beat that feeling! Lately, I have been feeling fresh and strong on my runs because I cut back to three days a week. It’s so nice!

  6. Wow this post seriously spoke to me. I haven’t had a nice regular run since the beginning of November. I ran a half marathon November 7th and it was horrible…found out I had Pneumonia that Monday. Then I continued my full marathon training with not so great runs. I ran a half marathon December 5th and had knee pain the whole time. Yesterday I found out I can’t run the full marathon next month because of my IT band issues. 🙁 This really helps me see that even though sometimes we get injured…we will always get back on to running.

    • I’m so sorry about yout IT band. I thought mine would keep e out of my race but I ahve been taking really good care of it and I have been doing ok! Are you icing, foam rolling, stretching, and staying off of it when it hurts? thats what i did. I really thought I would never run pain free again. But, there is hope!
