October Goals 2013

Guess what? It’s October 2nd and I am writing my goals…not on October 12th or 21st. Hooray! So just like August, September flew by, and I have a feeling October will as well. I have a lot going on, and can’t wait to share it with you! Today we drive down to Orlando, and will be hitting up Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure in the morning. Bobby has never been. Cannot wait to show everything to him! We will be staying at one of the onsite hotels so we can take advantage of the express pass (email me for more info on booking a trip for you! [email protected])

Let’s start with the goals, maybe tomorrow I will be able to share some fun news with you.

October goals:

1.) Slow down: I feel like I am on the go all the time, which isn’t bad, but I find myself looking to the next thing often instead of enjoying the moment. I want to live in the now and savor the things I am doing in the present

2.) Read the Bible every day: I was doing really good with this one and continue to do well while I am at home, but when I am traveling that is another story. I want to keep at this no matter where I am.

3.) Stretch: My IT band has started aching a bit since last Thursday which makes me a little nervous. I need to stretch, foam roll, and do some more yoga.

4.) Not eat too much Halloween candy: Let’s be realistic, I WILL eat Halloween candy, but I need to work on my portion control and not eat it all day long whenever I want. Oy.

Candy being handed out at Mickey’s not so scary Halloween party.

  1. Great goals for the month! Mine are to stick to the new training plan I’ve just started for my half in December, and to practice moderation and healthy balance with my food choices. Have a great trip!

  2. Have so much fun in Orlando! :0) It’s so easy to get caught up in the “what’s next” instead of living in the here and now. I feel you on that one!!

  3. Your October goals sound like a lot of my 2013 ones! We can do itttttt

  4. My trick with the candy is to stay away from the candy aisle until the weekend before Halloween, hide the candy, then bring it in to work Nov. 1 where other people will eat it. Out of sight, out of mind.

  5. Have a great time in Orlando! Definitely jealous!

I completely sympathize with you on your first goal. Life seems to always be go go go, with little time to focus on the what’s going on in the present, or to be able to reflect on what just happened. Hopefully with the arrival of fall life will finally slow down a bit!

  6. Great job with your goals Heather! I hope the IT Band is ok and just needs a little extra rolling! Have fun this weekend!

  7. We have some similar October Goals! I love your goal about slowing down. Good luck !

  8. I will be participating with my wife in the Oct Women’s Running Community challenge. Last night my better half had me joining in with her push ups, planks & chair dips, for all those husband/boyfriends out there it is worth a look & i am happy to report is someting fun to participate in 🙂 Good luck with your Oct goals, really enjoy your blog!

  9. Slowing down is the best exercise I’ve done over the past month! Enjoying and savouring 🙂

  10. Is that little girl wearing a Mary Poppins costume?! LOVE.

  11. Love your list Heather! Goodluck with your goals. Same here. IT band is acting up too. 🙁 And I love your #2 goal. 🙂

  12. It helps that we don’t get trick or treaters in the country.. so no need to buy Halloween candy… though my hubs buys it when its on clearance afterwards 🙂

  13. Haha. I love your Halloween candy goal … I may have to sang that for myself since I can’t not eat sweet treats 😉

  14. I LOVE the slow down goal!

  15. Natasha McCarson says:

Completely guilty of that first goal of yours! And have you ever been to the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party??? YIKES! Good luck on that candy goal! I’ll fail that one on Sunday night! Last year they gave out Mickey Mouse suckers and they were delicious! I guess running 10 miles the day before gives us a “little” bit of a pass…or I’m pretending it does. 🙂

  16. One of my goals is to hit a majority of my workouts and training runs that are scheduled each week. I just started training for what will be my third half and I find that I tend to get sloppy and skip workouts…no bueno! So my goal is 3 out of the 4 training runs and 2 out of the 3 strength sessions. And I absolutely CANNOT skip the weekly yoga! Not an option…

  17. Try a mobile app to keep up with scripture reading while you are on travel. Then…no excuses 🙂

  18. Your first two goals are on my list as well. Living in Los Angeles, it’s really hard to slow things down. However, it’s still something I’m working at. Same goes with reading the Bible. I started on that goal one day early (this last Monday). In addition to reading the Bible, I’m going through The Purpose Driven life again. It will be my third time going through this study. Each of the previous times, this study has helped a lot in getting life back in focus. Today is day three!

Another goal for October is setting a new half marathon PR. On October 27th, I’ll be running in the Rock n Roll Los Angeles Half Marathon.
