20 Years of the Mickey Marathon

Mornin’ yall! I had a great weekend with my family which was JUST what I needed to help me get over my funk. I still don’t feel out of the woods as far as fitness and my funk go, but my overall attitude is much much better. Amazing what some time with family and a snowball on a hot day can do for you!

Ok, so you know that I am planning to run goofy this year, but did you know that this year also marks the 20th anniversary of the Disney Marathon? Since Disney goes all out for every special occasion imaginable, you can bet they have some special things planned for the anniversary celebration! For starters, runners will get a special 20th anniversary mickey medal for completing the marathon! Also, there is a new post race party at Downtown Disney, and, in honor of this year, the full marathon course has been altered for even more fun (with a special surprise at mile 20!)

“Runners to Race Around the “High Banks’’ and “Bases’’ As Part of 20thAnniversary Walt Disney World Marathon Course”

Say wwwhhaattt?

Untitled

Oh yes my friends, we will be running through the speedway and around the bases at the Wide World of Sports complex/baseball stadium! How fun is that? Not only does it sound fun, but it will break up the miles between a couple of the parks and there won’t be as long of a “lonely stretch” if you know what I mean. I can’t wait to see what the mile 20 surprise is, all I know is I will have my camera!

Disney Princess Weekend: Sunday

If you missed my first two non-race recaps, you can check them out below:

Disney Princess Weekend: Thursday and Friday

Disney Princess Weekend: Saturday

Sunday morning we got up and ran the Disney Princess half marathon, but were back at the hotel by mid morning. Unfortunately, We missed breakfast in the lounge by just a couple of minutes, but were able to get some coffee from the wonderful ladies who work in the lounge to warm our freezing selves up! We showered and changed, and decided to go to the Magic Kingdom. We were starving, and I knew I wanted something yummy and greasy as a recovery food!

DSC_0350

Why yes I did wear my tiara to the park, along with my medal.

We took the monorail over to the park, and the crowds were really not that bad.

DSC_0353

We ended up in Fantasyland at Pinocchio’s and I ordered a fabulously greasy pizza with fries and a coke. I didn’t really care that it wasn’t healthy, my body was craving calories and carbs!

DSC_0356

We used my magical fastpass to ride Peter Pan, then we did Mickey’s Philharmagic,

422767_640903517731_68000952_32356008_2056931291_n

Haunted Mansion, and Pirates. About this time, I was getting really sleepy. My mom and I decided to go back to the hotel for a nap while Karen and her mom finished up in the Magic Kingdom. I know my limits, and if I wanted to be ANY fun at dinner, I needed a nap!

I slept about an hour, and it was glorious! I decided to run down to the shops at the hotel for a few minutes before getting ready for dinner. When I got back in the elevator, it was me, and another couple. I thought the man looked very familiar, but I was still half asleep. It hit me when I saw they had runDisney shirts on…It was Jeff Galloway and his wife!!! (he wasn’t wearing his Disney hat which is why it took me a minute!) He saw my medal and asked me if I had a fun race. I said I did, and I told him I had talked to him Friday at his meet up, and thanked him again for spending so much individual time with everyone. His wife laughed and said Jeff loved talking to people so it was no problem for him! Then Jeff told me the meet ups really had been taking off and taking on a life of their own and how he loved it! By then we were at my floor and I said goodbye. I of course immediately tweeted about it!

jefftweet1

I had such a great time racing in my tutu, I wanted to be able to wear it again. I somehow convinced everyone that we NEEDED to wear our tutu’s to dinner that night at 1900 Park Fare.

DSC_0357

We went to the lounge for appetizers and were having WAY too much fun. Let’s just say I get really silly when I have a glass of champagne! As we were sitting there, Jeff Galloway and his wife were walking by with their appetizers and went and sat at a table. my mom wanted to meet him, so she kept trying to “get his attention” with her medal.

431006_640903832101_68000952_32356014_708930919_n

They left and didn’t see us, but then he ended up coming back and walked right up to our table and started talking to us about the race! Of course we had to get a picture, too. he was so sweet and let us take about ten photos.

DSC_0360

I of course had to tweet…again.

jefftweet2

It was finally time for dinner, so we headed down to 1900 Park Fare we were ended up having to wait FOREVER to eat. We someone managed to entertain ourselves though.

64784_640904116531_68000952_32356019_633307181_n

Karen’s mom wasn’t feeling good so she went back to the room, and it was time for us to be seated. The food was excellent of course, and I had to keep apologizing to the table next to me because every time I would try to squeeze by to my table, my tutu would hit them in the face.

DSC_0364

Have I ever mentioned I love Disney mac n cheese?

I think they thought we were crazy. But then the characters started to come by…and they thought we had lost our minds.

When the first stepsister came up, we were already standing and she came up behind me and scared the crap out of me so I made a kind of “ah!” scared noise (not loud) and she looked at me then walked off! Luckily she did come back…but when I tried to tell her about the race she told me she didn’t need some medal to feel secure and confident in herself.

Then when we tried to take a picture, she did this.

DSC_0375

We finally got her to take a normal one

DSC_0377

and as soon as we did, she turned and screamed right in my ear and said “not so funny when someone does it to you, huh?” We were absolutely dying laughing, it. was. hysterical.

424271_640904430901_68000952_32356026_2073895996_n

Soon enough the other step sister came by, and she wasn’t very nice either. I told her that her sister was mean to us and she said we probably deserved it.

Finally, it was time to go, all of the fun from the day was catching up to us. We headed back to the room, and fluttered down the hall.

and for some reason decided to take a jumping picture. We actually hit it just right on the FIRST TRY (when does THAT happen?) until I realized my eyes were closed.

DSC_0394

It may have taken us about 100 more tries to get it right (in between fits of laughter, of course!) I will just share a few of these little gems with you.

Disney Princess Weekend: Saturday

If you missed my previous recap on Disney Princess weekend (non race) be sure to check it out first. Saturday morning, me, Karen, and her mom ran the Royal Family 5k. After the race, we went back to the hotel for breakfast, and then we headed back to EPCOT for some fun in the park.

DSC_0284

Some of the topiaries were already up for the flower and garden festival, I love this time of year in WDW!

DSC_0286

DSC_0290

DSC_0291

Because of my magical fastpass, we were able to quickly ride soarin and Test Track. I was actually able to get my mom to ride test track….and she still hated it. Oh well!

We walked around the world showcase and decided to eat lunch at Liberty Inn.

DSC_0292

My mom and I split a burger…and yes she got ketchup even though I told her we were getting grapes NOT fries. Poor lady.

DSC_0294

When we were heading out, this group was out front and we sang “God Bless America” and then said the pledge of allegiance. It made me tear up a little, we are so blessed to live in a country where we can still openly do these things!

We realized the voices of liberty were about to sing, so we stayed and watched.

DSC_0295

We finished our walk around World Showcase, and it was time to leave. We had to get back to the hotel for the blogger meet up I was hosting!

DSC_0296

After the meet up, we got ready for dinner. I was heading to Via Napoli with the Blogger group I was with for runDisney, and everyone else was headed to Garden Grill. We had a bbiigggg table. Some of the Disney marketing people joined our blogger group for dinner.

DSC_0335

DSC_0336

Picture of Theodora taking a picture. ha.

DSC_0337

Can I just say the Risoto balls were amazing. Theodora and I both got them and raved about these amazing balls. (amaze-balls. bahaha.)

DSC_0342

I was stuffed by time my pizza came and barely made a dent in it.

DSC_0343

I did have great conversation though because I was also sitting next to the lovely Kelly Olexa.

DSC_0341

We had to wait a LONG time for our table and our food. We had not even ordered dessert yet and I had to go, my mom and friends were waiting for me, plus we had to get up so early for the half the next day, so I told everyone I would see them in the morning and took off walking at a lightning pace towards Future World. My phone battery had died, so I had borrowed Kelly’s phone to tell them I was on my way. But it took me a lot longer than anticipated to walk, so I was going pretty fast! This was my fourth time running through EPCOT that weekend! (Jeff Galloway meet up, running to pasta party since I was so late, and the 5k.)

We made it back to the hotel in time for desserts in the concierge lounge.

DSC_0344

DSC_0345

and then went to sleep. 2:45 was going to come really early, and we didn’t get to sleep until almost 11:00!

QOTD: What is your favorite thin to do in EPCOT? Never been? What would be your favorite “country” to visit in EPCOT?

Disney Princess Half Marathon

So, I ran the Royal Family 5k on Saturday, and then had to get up at 2:45 Sunday for the Princess half marathon. After only four hours of sleep, I wasn’t too thrilled to hear my alarm. I got up anyway, and put on my tutu.  It was if the world was instantly more fun! I was so excited to wear it.

DSC_0347

All 3 of us ready to run

431326_640881811231_68000952_32355666_336787185_n

We made our way to the start line

DSC00199

and since I had a free pass to the race retreat (thanks runDisney and FitFluential!) I left my mom and Karen outside for a couple of minutes so I could go inside and take pictures. The race retreat isn’t cheap, but I can see why. It has a private bag check, potties, tables, food, couches, TV’s, computers, and character photo ops!

DSC00201

DSC00202

I grabbed a banana and a half of a bagel and some hot chocolate to warm me up.

DSC00203

DSC00207

DSC00208

I quickly spotted my blogger group of friends and sat with them for a few minutes. Me and my fellow Belle, Meghann.

DSC00205

Of course we had to get a Belle picture! Meghann, me, and Callie.

407427_10101582443801783_5207154_74917959_162564594_n

I definitely will consider the race retreat next time, especially if it’s really cold. It was nice to not have to stress about breakfast or the bathroom!

I headed out and wished them luck, and met up with my mom and Karen right at 5:00. We decided to join the masses of people heading to the corrals. We came to a standstill for a long time, and then realized the culprit. Disney did something I don’t remember them doing at the past two marathon weekends I participated in…they had a row of port o potties on the way to the corrals…so the lines for them were literally blocking the people trying to get to the corrals! It was a bit frustrating and poor planning in my opinion. (But hey if that’s the worst Disney does, then that’s not too shabby!)

race

We made a quick bathroom break ourselves, then headed to our corral. We got in about five minutes before the start, and had plenty of room to move around and take pictures.

DSC00210

DSC00211

People behind us

DSC00214

Before long, the fireworks went off, and it as time to run! There was so much excitement in the air, and of course, lots of tutus!

DSC00217

DSC00216

As we passed the start, I yelled to Carissa who gave me another shout out. One for each race, I’ll take it girl! The first couple of miles were pretty uneventful. We tried to keep a good pace to clear out from the crowds. Unfortunately, that never really happened.

DSC00220

We saw our first set of characters and had to stop. After all, our goals for this race were to have fun and get lots of pictures. The line was already really long, but we didn’t really care.

DSC00221

As we were standing in line, look who I spotted in front of us! Dave Mari, who I ran Disney’s Wine and Dine with, Brandi, who I also ran with and who was my skirt helper for the booth at Wine and Dine, and Juli, who is a fellow Running Skirts sales rep!

We took a picture with some of the men

I had to take a picture with the Beauty and the Beast mile marker

2012-02-26 07.08.39

We then ran into these awesome ladies

We finally made it to the Magic Kingdom and I started getting excited about running through the castle!

DSC00224

We made it around to the TTC where these awesome drummers were playing.

DSC00226

and then up the dreaded hill.

DSC00227

During the full marathon, Bobby loved watching the tumble monkeys, and asked them if he could get on their trampoline, so I took this picture for him.

DSC00228

We lost a lot of time stopping for pictures, and it was SO congested. I do not remember it being this bad for the half and full. I was constantly stopping, weaving, and bumping into people. It was impossible to even run two across, although some groups were walking 3 and 4 people across the road. oy.

I can see the castle!

DSC00229

About to head into the Magic Kingdom

DSC00230

About to turn onto Main Street USA!

DSC00231

wwweeeee!

DSC00232

I love love love this part of the race, but not going to lie, I didn’t enjoy it as much as I have in the past. When I turn onto Main street and see that castle I am bursting with emotion and I want to run…fast! There were sssooo many people I was basically at a walk the whole time, and spent my time going down the street a little frustrated that I couldn’t move.

DSC00233

So I just took a bunch of pictures.

DSC00234

DSC00235

We of course had to get the castle in the background

2012-02-26 07.31.15

DSC00237

We had to go to the bathroom, so we hit up the same one we used during the full marathon, the one in Tomorrowland. We were laughing because the women had taken over the men’s bathroom, too!

We made it to the back of the castle and this was actually one of I think three photo op’s we skipped. It was for Minnie and by time we realized it, we had missed the back of the line and didn’t dee it safe to swim upstream around all those people.

We ran through the castle and out the other side and headed into Frontierland.

and of course made a few stops along the way.

When we got to the backside of the Magic Kingdom, we saw a line for characters that was WAY long. My mom was getting tired and had a good idea. She said for us to stay in the line, and she would start walking and we would just catch her. Worked for us, so off she went. AAAAnnnddd we stood here for a long time.

DSC00242

About this time, Jen texted me and I sent her this picture to show her how crazy long the lines were!

DSC00243

We exited the Magic Kingdom and headed out on the skinniest portion of the race. The past two times I ran on the grass just so I could pass people. I think this part is dangerous and needs to be changed! We hit the halfway mark and the STRONGER sign with Kelly Clarkson’s song blaring. Loved it!

DSC00245

We got to the Grand Floridian and I saw Belle! There was a cast member standing there telling me the line was closed. Huh? She said Belle had to go get ready for the day and go to the park. I got very frustrated. We pay a lot of money for this race and should have the characters there until everyone is done. I was about to burst into tears. After all, she was the only picture I really wanted! A sweet girl at the back of the line offered me her spot! I was so grateful! Just then, the cast member decided to let us in anyway.

422933_640898547691_68000952_32355963_123559744_n

Belle told me I must have been rummaging around in her closet haha.

We caught up with my mom about mile 8.

photo (7)

This is the boring part of the race (comparatively) but it was still full of people and we were still weaving around to pass. We did a few run walk intervals, and finally made it to the overpass heading to EPCOT. The skies were looking mighty dark and you guessed it..it started raining. hard. I stuck my camera and my phone under my tutu and we kept going.

DSC00248

We could see the entrance to EPCOT, and knew we were getting close. Poor mom was wearing down, so I had to keep telling her to come on, and keep up. I wasn’t going to let her wimp out now!

DSC00250

We made it over the last hill, and I could see the EPCOT ball!

DSC00251

We made it into EPCOT and I told mom we were going to run the rest of the way. She didn’t seem to keen on the idea but I knew she could do it.

princess2

People kept telling Karen “I like your frog!” No one seemed to get it was Pascal from Rapunzel!

DSC00252

I kept telling my mom we were almost there, and to finish strong. I told her she is stronger than she thinks and that she was ALMOST DONE! We passed the gospel choir right as they started to sing “Joyful Joyful” and I ran by and slapped all their hands.

We saw Karen’s mom as we made the last turn.

2012-02-26 09.50.27

It started raining again, and we couldn’t find Karen’s mom. I was supposed to go back to the race retreat but everyone seemed a little stressed out so I didn’t say anything. Come to find out, they got breakfast, mimosa’s, and cute Princess flip flops. So sadly, I didn’t get any. Bummer, but it’s my fault.

We got on the monorail to go back to the resort and Princess was officially over.

This race gets two huge thumbs up from me. The organization is great, the characters are fun, and where else can you run in a tutu?!? I know for a lot of people, Princess was their first half. I was so proud of EVERYONE out there on that course, bettering their bodies, and becoming more healthy. That’s what it’s all about. PR’s are great, running your butt off is great, but you don’t HAVE to do those things to be a runner, or a half marathoner. It took us well over three hours to finish this race, and I don’t really care! I am strong, I am healthy, and I am happy. I never thought in my wildest dreams I would be working on half marathon number twelve. I feel so blessed to have the ability to run, and a healthy body to carry me through each and every race. I never dreamed it, but it is HAPPENING! If your goal is to run Princess next year, do it! Don’t put it off. Start your journey TODAY. We aren’t promised tomorrow. Start with a 5k, work your way up if a half marathon is your goal.  It will be tough but I know you can do it. Disney is a place where dreams come true, and I highly recommend all of the Disney races.

As a very wise man once said, If you can dream it, YOU CAN DO IT!

QOTD: What is something you have done that you never thought possible?

*If you love my tutu you can have one made of your very own! My friend Rachel makes them, check out her shop. She can personalize one for you!

I was always planning to go to the race, but a couple of weeks before I left, I was asked by runDisney and FitFluential to come as a part of a group of blogger media. Part of my expenses for the trip were covered. However, I am obsessed with Disney and their runDisney races, so all opinions are 100% my own.

RWS Features #13

Good morning! I am in Florida having an amazing time. So much fun, that I don’t have time to do a good recap justice right now! I promise to give you all the details as soon as I can. But I will tell you I hung by the pool with Kelly, went to Animal Kingdom with Meghann, and had dinner with an amazing group of girls!

Today I want to introduce you to Elle. Elle blogs at http://nutritionella.com/ and you can find her on Twitter as well. Elle is beautiful and so fashionable, and her blog is super fun, go check it out, now!!!

elle

(BEAUTIFUL PHOTO!)

Why did you start blogging?

1) I started blogging because I wanted to share my story and help others. Throughout my teens and early 20s, I struggled with an unhealthy body image which lead to disordered eating and exercise habits that essentially consumed years of my life.

Sum up your blog in a couple sentences:

2) Nutritionella is a blog for the food, fitness and fashion-obsessed.

What do you wish to accomplish through blogging?

3) I want to inspire healthy minds and happy bodies by showing others we have the power to create that for ourselves if we make it a priority.

What is your biggest healthy living achievement?

4) .  Being able to overcome a long struggle with unhealthy body image, eating and exercise habits by learning about nutrition, changing the food I put into my body and also how I view fitness. I taught myself to value fitness over thinness.

Thanks so much Elle!!

QOTD: Do you consider yourself fashionable? I do NOT, unfortunately.

Princess Time

Good morning! I am in a fabulous mood, I leave for my parents today, then early tomorrow morning for DISNEY! I can’t believe it’s finally here. Karen and I have been planning this for a year. I finally got my schedule from run Disney, so I thought I would share with you some of the fun things I will be doing for the next 5 days.

Thursday I fly in, check in to the Animal Kingdom lodge (a room to myself for the night!) Then will probably hit the pool or one of the parks. We don’t have to be anywhere until our welcome dinner that night.

DSC_0668

Friday morning we have the Tweet up and run with Jeff Galloway through EPCOT. Then, we have some free time before heading to the Expo and picking up our packets and doing some shopping. I told Juli who will be working the Running Skirts booth I would swing by and help her for a few minutes. Then my mom, Karen, and her mom meet me there and we go check in at the Grand Floridian and relax, aahhhh. Then that night it’s Pasta Party time in EPCOT!

DSC_0635

Saturday morning will have an early wake up call for the 5k, also in EPCOT. My mom is the only one not running this one so she will meet us at the finish. We will hang at the park some then I have to zip over to the kids races for a bit then I have more free time. My blogger meet up is at 3:00 at the Grand Floridian, then I have a special dinner with the runDisney folks at Via Napoli.

DSC_0647

Sunday morning is a REALLY early wake up call…I have access to the race retreat before the half, then me, my mom, and Karen will run the Princess half marathon. After the race, the official runDisney part of the weekend is over, but we are staying till Tuesday! We will go to the parks Sunday and eat dinner at 1900 Park Fare.
