Halloween 2017 Recap

Happy November! Just like pretty much every other month this year, October flew. Now it’s on to baking and turkeys and Christmas carols and Hallmark movies. Ok, so maybe I have already started watching Hallmark movies. I just can’t help it guys. They suck me in to this sappy vortex of holiday cheer. Anyway, before I get completely sucked into the holiday madness, I wanted to recap our Halloween. Now that we live in Tampa, there is TONS to do for Halloween, so we ended up doing 4 events plus the main event Halloween night. Let’s take a look:

Friday, Emma Kate’s preschool had a parade and trunk or treat. Through a communications mix up (grumble grumble) I didn’t know about it until the day before. Thankfully I found out because the first think Emma Kate did was look for me when her class walked out to do the parade. I also would have felt horrible if she was the only one not in a costume. Thankfully the #MomFail was avoided, and she paraded her little heart out and got her first taste of 2017 Halloween candy goodness.

When we got home from school, she was conveniently able to stay in her costume because we had our neighborhood trunk or treat to attend. Emma Kate perfected her manners with “trick or treats” and “thank you’s” but was getting confused with the candy part. Some people put it in her basket, some tell her to pick what she wants, so she ended up just grabbing candy herself every time. Oops.

She also got her face painted for the very first time. It was short lived because we went home ten minutes later, took a bath and went to bed, but I’m still so glad we did it because she was SO excited and sat so still while the lady worked. Too cute for words.

Saturday my parents went with us to a nearby fall festival. They had a trunk or treat, and also businesses had booths set up and also had candy. There was also a carnival but we conveniently skipped that part. I have heard way too many news stories lately of rides breaking down and people falling from them or dying. Anything that can be put up or taken down in a matter of hours is not considered safe in this mama’s book. It ended up raining but we stayed anyway. Emma Kate was super cute and brave going form table to table and getting candy.

Sunday afternoon we headed to the local outlet mall for another fall festival. Same thing, the businesses had tables selling things and also buckets of candy. Like we really needed more, right? They also had “Disney characters” (I use this term very loosely) wandering about and singing (the incorrect) words to songs from their movies. It was a gorgeous weekend so a perfect one to be out and about though.

Then Tuesday night, the main event. The second I walked into her classroom to pick her up from school she came running over saying “I want to go trick or treating!” I had to convince her to eat dinner and wait until the sun went down, but we were finally dressed and ready to take on the neighborhood. Funny story about this costume…I always assumed she would be Elsa, or Cinderella, or Moana for Halloween since we already have those costumes. Last Thursday she got in the car after school and declared she wanted to be a pumpkin…Say WHAT?!? She was so sweet and serious, so I hurried home, got on Amazon, and praise Jesus for prime. It arrived Monday, and she was a sweet little pumpkin for Halloween.

Of course, the first door we go to a teenage boy opens it and jumps out wearing a scary wolf head thing…terrified EK and she didn’t want to ring doorbells alone anymore. Thanks kid. She got the hang of which houses to go to (“mommy they don’t have lights on so we go to the next one”) and wanted to keep going to more and more houses. I’m glad we brought the stroller because she ended up in it some and poor thing got so tired she could barely stand up and fell down several times.

After dumping out her haul and looking at her candy, it was time for bed. She passed out immediately and then wanted candy for breakfast. I was sure to hide most of it while she was at school. Thankfully shes young enough that she won’t know!

Bobby and I ended the evening with a tradition, watching Hocus Pocus.

I call Halloween 2017 a huge success, and can’t wait to see what kind of fun we can find next year.

Luke 2:9-11

9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.

May the love of Christ be in your heart today and all year through. I love yall!

Emma Kate: Two Years Old

I can’t believe I am typing these words out. My little baby turned two years old on Saturday. It’s a bittersweet time for me, knowing that she is no longer a baby, but also very glad she is more independent (ha is she ever) and can do some things on her own. There is so much to say that I don’t even know where to begin, so let’s start with the stats.

IMG_9249

EK had her two year old check up yesterday, and weighs 31 pounds and nine ounces (96%) and is 36.5 inches tall (97%). Head circumference is 87%. She is in size 5 diapers, and clothing is a really wide range. She is mostly in 3T, but in some things can wear a 2T or a 4T. Footed PJ’s are a 3T. She is about to bust out of her size 6 shoes, I’m hoping we can get another couple weeks out of her sandals while we still have warm weather.

IMG_8249

Emma Kate loves to try to put on clothes and shoes, and always reminds me to put a bow in her hair. Poor child has been brainwashed by her southern mama to think she has to have one every day. Bless it.

We hit the terrible twos a long time ago, and girlfriend has quite the sassy attitude and loves to push the limits. We have been using time out, and she (usually) responds well to that. She likes to do things herself, and won’t let me help with her food, utensils, or when she can’t get a toy just right. She gets easily frustrated and likes to throw things down she she gets mad.

IMG_8381

Emma Kate has had an obsession with Finding Nemo for a couple months now, and we legit watch it every single day. She can say a lot of the lines, and is mesmerized by the fish. Never did I think my super hyperactive child would sit still and watch a movie, but she will sit and watch Nemo for 20-30 minutes. She still likes Mickey/Minnie mouse and Elsa, but as far as TV prefers to watch Nemo. She also has an obsession with YouTube Kids on my iPad and will ask to watch it all. the. time. (Gasp. I know, go ahead. Judge all you want, but sometimes mama needs 30 minutes and the iPad does the trick). She still loves dogs, and really all animals and making animal sounds. Lately, she has been singing a lot. Her favorites are the ABC song, and the happy birthday song. She still loves puzzles, and also likes to do anything I am doing around the house like sweeping, helping with the laundry, etc.  It’s funny how quickly things change, because I know in a couple months she may have totally different things she loves!

IMG_8624

As far as speech, Emma Kate is always talking, but I don’t always know what she’s saying, although I have gotten better at using contextual clues to decipher. She’s speaking in a lot more over two word sentences lately, and says the funniest things. If she bangs her head on the door, she will wag her finger at it and say “no no, bad door!” and she is always saying “hush Bella, get down!” to the dog. She loves going outside “outside mama outside!” and eating.

IMG_8633

Speaking of eating, she went straight from her highchair to a “big girl” chair several months ago, without a booster seat. Oh well. Saves me some money I guess! She loves to eat cheese, apples, strawberries, yogurt, lasagna, beans, and chicken. I kept sweets from her as long as I could, but now she asks for cookies. Whoops!

IMG_8768

Sleep is still going great at night. She is still in her crib, and goes to bed at 7:15, and waked up between 6:00-6:15 usually. Naptime still isn’t going great. I had hoped after she turned one and dropped that second nap that her one nap would get longer, but it unfortunately didn’t. An “average” nap is 45 minutes to an hour, and anything over that is considered “long” for her. I so envy my friends who have kids that nap 2.5-3 hours a day, but i’m also grateful to have a great nighttime sleeper.

The best is when she gives us kisses at night and says “I love you too” when we say prayers and put her to bed. I know I will blink and she will be 12, then again and she will be 22, so as much as I want her to get a little bit older so we can do more fun things together, I don’t want it to happen TOO quickly. We love you bug! Happy birthday!

Easter Egg Mania

On Sunday, our church held an open to the community Easter Egg hunt for kinds K5 and under. Unfortunately, the weather was not great. It was about 48 degrees and SUPER windy. However, the show must go on, and we weren’t missing Emma Kate’s first egg hunt!

They had a bounce house and slide, face painting, popcorn, cotton candy, lemonade, and balloon animals as well as a professional photographer. They started with a little “show” and also to show off the brand new preschool playground that was just built.

easter1

They did a little story about the true meaning of Easter and sang a song, it was really cute. After that, it was time to get some eggs!

easter2

They had it organized really well. There were roped off areas for 4-5 year olds, 2-3 year olds, and baby-23 month olds (the babies were in the new playground area). It was hysterical to see all the other parents of kids Emma Kate’s age trying to take pictures and get them to put eggs in their baskets. The kids just stood there very very confused.

easter3

After showing Emma Kate what to do a few times, she finally got the hang of it and would put eggs in her basket.

easter4

easter5

easter6

Then she would get distracted by the grass, other kids, you name it.

easter9

Easter11

easter8

I don’t know if you can tell, but in the below picture EK is saying “ooooo” because she just discovered she could open the eggs and that there was something inside! (Thankfully, she has no idea what candy is).

easter10

After a few minutes Emma Kate played on the playground and then we got in line for her picture.

easter7

Baby girl didn’t eat much at lunch so she was hungry and cranky so I gave her some popcorn. When I tried to take the bag from her for the photo, she FREAKED OUT, so I had to give it back. Not the best photo prop, but at least she’s not screaming.

easter12

Of course, as soon as we came home, all the eggs got dumped out all over my floor. I have a feeling this will happen all week long!

easter13

The Easter egg hunt was a success, and we had a lot of fun. A huge thanks to Broadmoor for putting it on!

Christmas 2015 Recap

Hello! Sorry for the delayed post. We didn’t get home from Louisiana until last night and I was too tired to upload pictures and write a post. So much happened over the past few days, I wouldn’t have been able to do it justice in my exhausted state of mind! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas with the ones you love. The post Christmas blues have set in and I’m trying to keep my mind off of how far away next Christmas is!

We drove down to south Louisiana after lunch on the 23rd. My mom had left to pick up my sister at the airport, so we hung out with my dad until everyone was home.

10313560_989408565758_5410605055358176123_n

Emma Kate was fascinated by all of my parent’s Christmas decorations.

10514598_989410402078_2667575237460601278_n

On Christmas eve morning, I met Jen for coffee at Starbucks and it was packed! It was great to see her, and I invited her family over for Christmas night dinner, so glad they ended up coming!

The rest of the day was pretty low key. My mom and I did some baking, and then me, Bobby, my dad and sister went to Christmas eve service at my parent’s church at 3:00.

We came home and prepped for dinner.

We are usually so tired and full on Christmas day after lunch with my extended family so we decided to do our “nice’ meal Christmas eve.

10269636_989408411068_3330847338072151921_n

The meal ended with Emma Kate discovering the wonders of reddi whip. She kept stealing the can and trying to squirt it into her mouth, so I helped.

After dinner we followed our tradition of my dad reading the Christmas story from the Bible, and then Bobby read ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.

My dad then read the Cajun Night Before Christmas (my sister brought the cowboy hats from Texas.)

10489763_989408665558_1058031170421707672_n

My sister insisted on EK wearing a hat while we took a pic with the girls, but Emma Kate make it known she was not a fan.

Little bit went to bed after all the fun.

1455025_989408795298_5248496665696297012_n

We usually watch a movie on Christmas Eve, but this year we decided to watch Christmas episodes of one of our favorite shows, Everybody Loves Raymond. We laughed a ton, and then called it a night.

Santa came, and we opened presents on Christmas morning.

We took our time opening gifts and drinking coffee, it was nice to not be rushed.

We eventually cleaned up and drove to my cousin’s house for lunch with my mom’s side of the family. Sweet Emma Kate fell asleep in the car so Bobby sat with her until she woke up.

We headed home after lunch and got ready for friends to come over. We are so glad The Z family came over for dinner!

we ate, the kids played, it was a lot of fun and nice to do something so casual.

The next morning, Bobby and I went for a 10 mile run. We never get to run together anymore so it was a nice treat.

10570305_989410222438_5817887103609603223_n

I even got to take a short nap! That evening we went to an annual Christmas party that my parent’s neighbors have been holding since I was a child. I look forward to it every year, it’s great to catch up with people that I lived on the same street as for many many years and I love that everyone still is in the same houses!

1725317_989410287308_2386557788810965094_n

Sunday afternoon we somehow managed to load up everything into our SUV and made the trek home. I didn’t even unpack I was so tired.

1455908_989410347188_421088020054480994_n

It was a GREAT Christmas but I hate how quickly it went by! I know I say that every year, but I just feel like there is so much anticipation and then it’s over in a flash. I can’t wait for next year when Emma Kate will be able to understand it even more. Merry Christmas!

QOTD: What did you do for Christmas?

Disney at Christmas

Visiting Walt Disney World at Christmastime is probably my favorite time of year to go (well, it barely edges out the food and wine festival!) There is just something extra magical about all the special touches Disney puts into the decorations, parades, parties, and other events that make it very memorable.

DSC_0018

Of course the Magic Kingdom/main street is decked out with beautiful festive decorations.

DSC_0017

But my favorite thing to do is go to the different resorts and see their décor. My favorite is the Grand Floridian because of the beautiful gingerbread house that doubles as a store where you can buy gingerbread! It’s so gorgeous (and smells so good) and must be seen in person to fully appreciate it’s coolness.

371

Other resorts do a great job, especially those with nice big lobbies like Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom Lodge.

1909831_506266965398_7973_n

1909831_506266700928_2713_n

One thing I am super sad about is that this is the last year for the Osborne lights at Hollywood Studios. It has always been a favorite of mine, and I’m bummed I won’t get to see them again.

1909831_506312070008_5000_n

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is a lot of fun, with special fireworks and a parade.

The best part of the Magic Kingdom decorations is hands down the castle. This is something you have to see in person because pictures just don’t do it justice. I can sit forever and stare at it as it changes colors, it truly is breathtaking.

Cannot. get. enough.

All About Christmas

Happy Thursday friends! I thought I would break things up with some fun Christmas facts about me and my family, as well as some of our traditions. I would love to hear you answer some of these!

1.) Real of fake tree? We have a fake tree, and I always had a fake one growing up due to owning cats + having allergies to lots of things. Plus, our last fake tree lasted I want to say 6 or 7 years so it ended up being way cheaper than buying real every year.

IMG_9434 (2)

2.) Christmas morning breakfast? It depends. for a few years I made a special danish thing, but last year I didn’t since I had a three month old, so not sure what will happen this year! Sometimes we just eat leftovers from Christmas eve. Smile

3.) Favorite Christmas Album? Definitely the Carpenters. I grew up listening to it over and over so it just means Christmas to me to hear it!

4.) Where do you spend Christmas? We spend it with my side of the family. Bobby’s family all gets together at Thanksgiving but not really at Christmas so it just makes more sense. We spend Christmas eve with my parents, and on Christmas day we all go to my cousin’s house (everyone used to come to my parent’s house.) n61700476_30279142_1481

5.) Favorite Christmas movie: This one is tough! The Santa Clause, Elf, and Christmas with the Kranks are all up there. OH! and Home Alone. Gah this is too hard!

6.) What’s on your wish list: A new lens for my camera.

7.) Any traditions? I usually make snicker cookies on Christmas eve, and we always read ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas as well as the Christmas story from the Bible.

photo (32)

8.) Stockings, yes or no? My parents always have a stocking for us, but last year and this year Bobby and I aren’t doing stockings because we would rather use that money to travel than on trinkets we don’t really need.

9.) Do you put up outside lights? Yes! It makes me sad that it seems less and less people do this. Growing up we would drive around on Christmas eve and look at the lights. Now we are hard pressed to find hardly any in our neighborhood.

386166_263118980408935_125029084217926_687189_262298865_n

10.) Do you open presents Christmas Eve or Christmas Day? Growing up we opened presents from my grandparents on Christmas eve, and then gifts from my parents and Santa Christmas morning. My parents also used to let us open one gift from them on Christmas eve. Now we just do everything Christmas morning.

216620_504087173718_61700476_30040673_3409_n

I can’t wait to see how our traditions evolve as Emma Kate gets old enough to understand Christmas!

NFL for the Holidays

Football is one of my favorite things, so it only makes sense for me to consider NFL related gifts for my wish list/gift guide. Even if your team isn’t doing as well as expected (like mine), any loyal fan would love to have some game day gear under the tree. There’s always next season, right?

nfl for the holidays

The best part about NFL gear, is that it is super easy to purchase on NFLshop.com. They have a huge variety of clothing from shirts to sweaters to pants and even dresses. The site is easy to navigate, and there are tons of great options.

NFL saints for the holidays

I love how there are so many different women’s styles to choose from, and I can dress my game gear up for a fun party, or even wear it as an everyday outfit. (By the way, the sweater I am wearing in the below picture is SO COMFORTABLE. Go buy it. now.)

nfl for the holidays

Personally, I got lucky that my favorite team has the great colors of black and gold. I can dress up my outfit with gold jewelry, and I can wear black pants, a skirt, or jacket to complete my outfit.

nfl for the holidays

Do you have any NFL fan gear under your Christmas tree? If you could pick something, what would it be?

nfl saints3

If you are looking for a gift for a football loving spouse, friend, family member, or coworker, there are tons of adorable outfits and stocking stuffers on NFLshop.com that any NFL fan would be excited to have. (Yes yes, even for a Saints fan like me. Who Dat for life!)

nfl saints7

It’s almost Christmas! That means it’s almost time for the PLAYOFFS! Who are you rooting for? Me? I’m still undecided.

5 Things I am Thankful For

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and I hope you all have the opportunity to spend some time with the people that you love. I am hosting again this year and my parents and sister are coming into town. I won’t be posting tomorrow or Friday, because I want to spend time with my family (and so should you! Go talk to someone’s face tomorrow.)

In the spirit of the holiday, I thought it would be appropriate to get all sappy and tell you all what I am thankful for this year. I have a LOT to be thankful for, but just narrowed it down to 5 big ones for the purpose of this post.

1. My family: My family is awesome, and have been there through thick and then. They have taught me so much, helped me when I needed it, stood up for me, given me advice, and so many countless other things. I am so glad I get to see several family members tomorrow, and I hope to teach Emma Kate the importance of family.

DSC_0673

2. My health: I truly do not take this one for granted. I am so thankful that I can get out of bed every morning, pick up my daughter, go for a run, lift weights, work, and take care of the people I love. This is such a huge blessing that many would love to have but don’t, so I try very hard to appreciate it.

castle

3. Laughter: Laughter truly is the best medicine! I got to laugh with my family this past weekend and it was so good for my soul. I love hearing Emma Kate laugh, and always want my house to be filled with laughter.

090

4. My friends: My friends are spread out all over the country (and even the world!) but they are all special to me, even the ones I don’t get to see near often enough. From having a big group of online friends I get to virtually hang out with, to having a small group girls Bible study to talk about the heavy stuff, it’s all important and I am blessed.

DSC_0910

5. My relationship with God: This one trumps all. As we move into the Christmas season and see that a small baby changed everything, it is so vital to remember God in the big and small daily things. Everything good I have comes from Him, and I am SO thankful He has blessed me with this life I live.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

QOTD: What are you thankful for?

4th Recaps + My Favorite Party Recipe

Hey everyone! Happy holiday weekend! I know a lot of people are off work today (sadly I am not one of them), but I just waned to hop on and wish everyone a safe and happy 4th of July. I will be running my virtual race this weekend and reporting back on that next week, and on Sunday we head to Destin!

tr-21327-5T

Don’t worry, I will be sharing lots of photos and such (make sure you are following me on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and the newest, PERISCOPE!) I am @HeathersLG. I plan to do some live broadcasting from the beach yall!

Check out my 2013 4th of July recap here, and my 2013 4th of July recap here. I also have two 2011 recaps here and here. Clearly I enjoy being festive and celebrating holidays!

I also wanted to share my “go to” BBQ/picnic dessert recipe, chocolate éclair pie. It’s SUPER easy to make and always a big hit. Have fun, shoot fireworks, and don’t point roman candles at people. Happy Independence Day!
