New Favorites

I may be a little behind with my love for a few things but still wanted to talk about the “new to me” things I have been enjoying lately!

The Walking Dead

I have heard a lot of people profess their love for this show, and honestly, I was a bit scared to watch it. I am not a horror movie kind of girl. The thought of flesh eating zombies jumping out from behind buildings really freaks me out. However, I gave it a shot and I am happy to report in my opinion, the “walkers” are not even that scary. It’s mainly about surviving in a post apocalyptic world, with a lot more plot than just zombies chasing characters around. The zombies are actually quite dumb which is more funny to me than scary. Bobby and I are midway through season two and are really enjoying it. Can’t wait for season 4 to start in the fall!

The Kill Order

I have said before how I really loved the Maze Runner book series. I was at Target browsing the book section a couple weeks ago and stumbled about a prequel that I didn’t know existed called the Kill Order. I hurried home and downloaded into onto my tablet, then finished the book in three days. I loved it! Great way to round out the series and explain some of the things that happened in the 3 books that come after it.

The Elite

Another book I talked about last year was The Selection. I read it super fast and hated I had to wait a whole year for the next book to come out. Well, it finally came out and now I am awaiting the third! This is a good beach read type of a book, very easy and fun. It’s technically a young adult book, but I love it. (Hey, I’m young right?)

  1. I love when I get into a good book or book series that I can’t put down!
We haven’t watched the Walking Dead but maybe we will give it a try. We watch Mad Men and are always seeing the commercials on AMC. The “walkers” sure do look scary 🙂
I am planning to watch these new shows this summer : Nashville, Scandal and Revenge.

Please tellme you’ve read the Kingdom Keepers series by Risley Pearson. If you love Disney these books are amazing.

  3. I think I’ve been living under a rock and have never heard of these (except for Walking Dead…which I haven’t seen, oops!). I used to read more but I feel so guilty reading for fun when I’m in school. If I have time to read I figure I should be studying. I can’t wait to be done with school!

  4. OMGOSH

Ive missed every single one of these!!!

    • all good stuff I promise! maze runner series esp. if you like to read and like thta type of books/post apocalypic type things

  5. Like you, I’m scared of watching the Walking Dead. I’m looking forward to Rizzoli and Isles season 4 starting late June. I don’t like how I have to wait for any of my shows to start their new season. Can’t they keep the new seasons going year-round?

  6. I love those books! I teach 5th grade LA – I recommend them to all of my really high readers. They were so good! Check out Susan Beth Pfeffer’s series that starts with “Life As We Knew It” too – it’s awesome!

  7. Lindsay says:

My fiance and I LOVE The Walking Dead. We watched the whole thing within a couple of weeks. You’re so right, it’s not so much about the zombies as you would assume. Not gonna lie, I’ve literally sobbed at times during that show. Season 3 was my least favorite so I’m interested to see how you like it. 🙂

I’ve been wanting to read the Maze Runner series. I’ve heard so many good things!

  8. Oh you got me into the Maze Runner books…I must read The Kill Order!!! The Selection series sounds good too! I LOVE young adult books too! 🙂

  9. The Elite was in an e-mail that I received from Barnes & Noble recently, and I saved it since I am looking for a new book to read. I’ll definitely have to look into both of these series.

  10. I’ve actually never hear of any (well except the first one), but The Kill Order sounds good. I’ll have to google it & read more about it. Thanks for the suggestions 🙂

  11. I have never heard of these things! A show about zombies? I don’t know…

  12. My husband and I LOVE The Walking Dead – until the last half of season 3. It is soooooooooooo slow pretty much nothing happens lol. I’m hoping season 4 is more exciting!!

I haven’t read the Maze Runner series yes but it is on my list of books to read!

  13. Walking Dead!!!! Love it! Can’t wait for the Fall!

  14. Jodi @ 13.1 Miles to Disney says:

I’m a HUGE Walking Dead fan. I’ll have to check out the books you mentioned soon. I could use a new series or two.

  15. Natasha McCarson says:

The Walking Dead is my favorite!!! And you got it exactly right! It’s more about adapting to a different life than it is about just zombies. Wait until you meet the Governor! YIKES! Like one of the comments above, I’ve even sobbed during that show!! Crazy, right! Thanks for the book recommendations. Headed to the library tomorrow! And PS – the author Lee Child is awesome…his books are like readin an episode of “24”.

  16. I need to check out The Walking Dead too…I’m a fan of both True Blood and Dexter, which are both pretty scary, eerie at times, so I don’t know what I’m waiting on as far as the zombies are concerned :/

  17. Jenny Lou says:

My husband and I LOVE the Walking Dead! I’ve read my fair share of the graphic novel as well and it’s very good. I’m going to check out the books you’ve recommended. I love post-apocalyptic stories. You should check out Wool. I’m reading it now and it’s the first in a trilogy.

  18. I love the Walking Dead! You will love the up coming seasons! 😉 However, I have learned that I cannot watch it right before bed. I tend to have zombie dreams.

  19. Tempie @ The Texas Peach says:

My husband and I both love The Walking Dead!
