Marathon Inspiration


Tomorrow is the one month countdown to my first marathon. Since I missed 6 weeks of crucial training, I have been a little down/nervous about it. This morning, I watched last night’s episode of the Biggest Loser. I was excited about this episode because every year it is a great motivation. It was the episode where the final four contestants run a marathon.

     Every season I watch, I cry, I get inspired. BUT, this is the first season I have watched where I have been personally training for a marathon. I can say this really was the pick me up I needed today! My two favorite contestants, Patrick and Ada, are part of the final 4. Ada is awesome and so strong and competitive, and Patrick is a Mississippi boy from about an hour or so away from where I live. I have been rooting for those two the whole time!

A little background:

Patrick started the show at 400 pounds. He is 27 years old and married with two little boys.

Patrick finished the marathon in 5 hours and 45 minutes (approx) and Ada finished in 4 hours 39 minutes, smashing the female record for the Biggest Loser marathon. Frado, the 3rd contestant finished just after Patrick, and Elizabeth, the 4th contestant, who had only run a long distance of 8 miles before the race (a stupid move) finished in 7 hours and something.

It was so inspiring hearing their stories and seeing their progress, I thought, if they can go from their previous weights to current weights, which is still not where they want to be, all in 3 months, then I can do it too.

Yes, I know I am undertrained, and coming back from an injury, but my goals do not revolve around time. I just want to FINISH and HAVE FUN. It is such a great accomplishment in itself to run a marathon, even if your time isn’t what you wanted it to be. I need to stop being so hard on myself and realize I have come so far in this past year of distance running, and I should be proud of myself.

As a blogger it’s easy to get caught up in PR’s and what other bloggers are running. Yes, I may be slow, but I have PR’ed in all of my half marathons (4 of them) and now I am a month out from my first marathon, all within a year. I think that is definitely something to be proud of! So, as Biggest Loser says…What have YOU done today to make you feel proud?

Runner’s Christmas Gift Guide


Ho, Ho, Ho! Santa just called me and wants to know what I think would be good Christmas gifts for all the runners on the nice list this year! I told him I would ask my readers, which I did, and here are the responses you gave me!


Katie has a Garmin, ipod armband, sunblock, and other small essentials on her list.



One Small Town Girl says reflection gear is the way to go.  Particularly Brooks Nightlife hat and LED flashers as well as sweaty bands.



Katy has Garmin, Fuel (Chomps, Stingers, Gel, etc), socks, a good sports bra, running clothes (shirts, pants, etc), iTunes gift card (to download music for runs), and gift cards for running stores on her list



Paige is all about CEP compressions socks and the new Timex GPS watch.



Stacy says a race entry would be a great gift, along with running gloves, a hat, Chomps, itunes card, and crazy socks.



Michelle agrees with the others that a Garmin is the way to go, as well as a

Running Skirts skirt, Nike capris, GU Performance Pack, CEP Compression socks, and a Spibelt



Courtney is a new runner, and she thinks any clothing items (skirts, shirts, socks, shoes, etc) would benefit as well as a spibelt, garmin, gift certificates, and running food related items or water bottles.



Ali swears by Lululemon (of which I sadly own none of but would love to!!)



Kimberly has a great list formed:

Melt in Your Mouth Chicken


Baby it’s cold outside! For this southern girl, it’s WAY too cold! in the mid thirties when I woke up. I waited until the “hottest part of the day” to run, and it was a whopping 44 degrees, that’s like a blizzard for south Louisiana!

Wait…did I just say I went for a run? Why yes, yes I did! a five mile run mind you, with no knee pain! woo hoo! in the last half mile I had the TINIEST bit of tightness, so I stopped and stretched and it went away. I was so happy! I even felt really good, too! I know missing 6 weeks of training will hurt my time, but I just want to finish! Aiming for one more good run this week (don’t want to push it) and then a long run this weekend, and hopefully that will get me back on track.

So, on to the recipe. This recipe holds a special place in my heart. When Bobby and I had been dating for a month or so, I decided to cook him dinner. He told me to choose my meal wisely because it would make or break the rest of my life (haha.) Anyway, I chose a new recipe I had never made before: Melt in your mouth chicken. I paired it with potato soup but that will be for another day. Smile 

Ok, here it is, still one of my (and Bobby’s) favorites.

-3-4 boneless skinless chicken breasts

– 1/2 cup white cooking wine

-butter (optional)

-pepper jack cheese

-1 can low sodium cream of chicken soup

– 1-2 cups herb stuffing mix (I use Pepperidge Farm)

-salt and pepper to taste



1.)Preheat oven to 350 degrees

2.) spray the bottom of a baking dish (I use a 9” I think)

3.) put chicken in baking dish with a little butter on each piece

4.) slice some pepper jack cheese (per your liking) and put on top of each piece

5.)add salt and pepper to taste

6.)mix soup and white wine together in a bowl, pour on top of chicken

7.)pour stuffing mix on top of everything

8.)bake at 350 for one hour

Back in the Action


Good evening! I hope everyone had a great weekend and a great week. I missed my daily blogging while I was gone but it was also nice to just unplug with no phone or computer for a week. I think I needed it. The cruise was fun, but also..interesting! More on that later though!

I have some good news…I did lots of walking on the trip and ran twice and NO KNEE PAIN!!! I was so excited…but at the same time I am scared to get TOO excited. Does that make sense? I am going to try a couple of longer runs this week and then a long run this weekend. Fingers crossed! I think I may be back in the action and hopefully still able to run my marathon!!

When I ran, I warmed up for a LONG time and stretched well so hopefully that had something to do with it. I have never been great at the warming up thing!

Happy black Friday! It is cold and rainy here, and I am glad I am not out fighting crazy people for merchandise! Instead I am packing up for our cruise! We drive halfway today and then the boat leaves tomorrow!

I know I said I would have my runner’s Christmas gift guide up today but it’s not going to happen. I am sorry guys, the Saints game had me super stressed out yesterday evening, I was planning on blogging and watching, but I was glued to the TV instead! I want it to be good so it will have to wait till I come back.

Good New and Bad News


Happy Thanksgiving eve! November has just flown by! I hope everyone is having a good day, gearing up for lots of yummy food!

As promised, I have an update on my IT band situation. There is good news and bad news. Let’s start with the good.

Monday, I had to go to Mississippi for some personal things, and I went to the chiropractor twice. When I went in the morning and told him my knee was still not right, he got all excited because he has just gotten back from a conference dealing with extremities. He said he learned a lot about legs/knees/hips and had some tests he wanted to try on my legs and some adjustments he wanted to do when I came back that afternoon. ooookkk.

So I go back and he did a serious of tests, bending pulling, stretching, having me point/flex/etc. and He told me that I have absolutely zero rotation in either of my legs/knees/hips. They won’t turn at all apparently. I or course thought I was normal and you were not supposed to be able to rotate like that. I was on my back and he bent my knee, turned my leg in and tried to pull it towards me and my hip flexor hurt so bad he couldn’t get it to go anywhere. Then he did some kind of adjustment to my hip and knee and tried it again and my leg turned a whole lot farther!

Basically, my right hip is so badly rotated that my leg can’t sit in my hip socket properly or something like that, so that is most likely what is causing all the stress on my IT band which is causing it to get inflamed and tight. Good news, he can fix it my basically putting everything back where it is supposed to be.

Bad news….I need to go see him as often as possible before my race to make training possible (once is just not going to do it obviously) and I cant go back for two weeks! I am going to try to go the 2nd and third weekends in December and the first week of January right before the race and  just pray that is enough.

I tired running yesterday to see if I could tell a difference. Good news, I made it 1.5 miles zero pain. I was so happy! But then it started to get tight. I ran walked the last 1.5 miles, stopping every half mile to walk for one minute and that seemed to help. I hurt a little this morning but not badly. I am stretching and foam rolling hoping that helps. 1.5 miles is good though…before, it was hurting from the very first step, so this is progress I guess? I guess I will just have to do a lot of driving back to MS in order to make this happen!

sorry for the lack of pictures, I have been so busy the past couple of days getting ready for our cruise. I will take Thanksgiving pictures tomorrow!

O Christmas Tree Take II


What a sleepy afternoon! I just woke up from a nap. I had to make a quick trip to Mississippi for some personal reasons, and I was up at 5:30 this morning then did all the driving so I needed a nap! It was nice. Smile

I have mentioned that putting up the tree is one of my very favorite things to do and I was sad I wouldn’t get to reflect on all the memories of my ornaments etc. this year. Well, I was wrong I did! My dad had a smaller tree at his office he brought home for me and while Bobby was here over the weekend we put it up with just a few of our “special” ornaments. Not as fun as past years but better than nothing! Excuse the sad way I look. it was 9:30 at night.






The puppies slept through all the fun.








YAY for the holidays!!! I am done posting goobey tree pictures..for now. Smile

Happy weekend! It’s official, we have a foundation! Woo hoo! Today, Bobby and I brought my parents to see our house in progress. My mom had been to the neighborhood before but my dad had not. I was so excited to show them and see the progress with my own eyes! It’s going up fast!

Tomorrow, my mom and I are driving to my house so I can go to the chiropractor, and so we can get mail, check on the house etc. I am ITCHING to run so badly, I feel like I am losing fitness everyday. I walked yesterday but did nothing today. Maybe I will try to walk and maybe jog a little at my house tomorrow.

So I posted that I used the tennis ball on my leg and hip…well, it left a bruise! I am SO SORE, and my leg had a bruise. I read that was ok, but I really didn’t think it would happen to me. oops. Hope it is at least helping! have a good night everyone!
