FAQ

Hello! If you have a question you would like me to answer, just send it to heather@heatherslookingglass.com and I would be happy to put it in this section! Or, if you are shy, you can comment on this post under a fake name 🙂

1.) What do you do for a living? You talk about being at home a lot.
Yes! I love working from home. I get paid to blog and create content for social media full time. Last year I took a leap of faith and I am making more than I made working my corporate job for an influencer marketing company. So happy I bet on myself!

2.) What kind of dogs do you have?
I have a 3 year old goldendoodle (medium) named Dolly, and a puppy goldendoodle name Luna who is a mini and will be about 20 pounds full grown.

3.) What Disney resorts have you stayed at?
I have stayed at the Grand Floridian, Contemporary, Bay Lake Tower, Polynesian, Boardwalk, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Wilderness Lodge, Beach Club, Yacht Club, Port Orleans Riverside and French Quarter, Coronado Springs, All Star Sports, Pop Century, Caribbean Beach, All Star Music, Saratoga Springs, Old Key West, and the Fort Wilderness Campground. My favorite is the Grand Floridian. 🙂 I have also sailed on four Disney cruise ships.

4.) How did you and Bobby meet? How long did you date and how long were you engaged?
Bobby and I met my sophomore year of college, the first weekend back at school. We were both playing in an intermural volleyball tournament on opposite teams and we started talking. He invited me to come out and play ball with them in the afternoons, and he finally asked me out one day. 🙂 We dated for one year and three months before Bobby had the nerve to propose. We then were engaged for 13 months before we got married. (yes it was a long engagement, but when you are having a New Orleans wedding you have to book things way in advance because big weddings are so popular!) We were married January 6, 2007.

5.) How did you get started distance running?
In high school I was a sprinter and a 400 seemed like a long way. In January of 2009, I went to Disney World and watched some friends run the marathon. While standing on the side watching the runners and the spectators, I started to tear up. I was so inspired watching the runners at mile 23ish of their race, determined to finish. At that moment, I decided if they can do it, I can do it. I went home and started training. The next year, I went back and ran the half marathon with my husband. Halfway to my goal! I ran two more halfs, and then started training for the full marathon in the summer. I went back January 2011 and accomplished my goal of running the full marathon! It took me two years but I came full circle. 🙂

6.) I noticed that you don’t blog about your food. What is your diet like?
I knew I was going to get this one! I don’t blog about my food for a reason. I have gotten SO much better, but I am definitely not the epitome of the healthy eater. I have a HUGE sweet tooth and I eat chocolate regularly. I also love bread and pasta, but have cut back. I eat a lot of chicken, and try to limit my red meat to once a week or so. I also LOVE sweet tea but only drink it once a week on the weekend as a treat. I like simple recipes (check out my recipes tab!) I also love cheese!!!! I have broadened my horizons a lot in the past few years, but I still don’t eat seafood and a lot of veggies.

7.) Have you ever struggled with food or your weight?
eh….I’m not really sure how to answer this question. In high school, I ate whatever I wanted. I just never thought about it. I played three sports, and I was skinny as a bean pole! When I went to college, I still ate what I wanted, but it started to take it’s toll because I wasn’t working out that much. I gained about ten pounds but it didn’t really bother me. I also have someone close to me that struggles with an eating disorder, and watching this person makes me NEVER want to go down that road. I think I have a healthy relationship with food. Sure I would love to tone up here and there, who doesn’t. I have trimmed up since I started running, but I don’t weigh myself often and just tend to go by how my clothes feel. I am 5’9″ so I will never be “tiny” and I am ok with that. I am curvy, and my husband likes it, so there. 🙂

8.) What kind of camera do you use?
I have a NikonZ50 and love it! I am still so overwhelmed by it, but haven’t had time to learn all I want to know. Hopefully I can take a class soon to help me. I also have an iphone 14 pro max.

9.) Why did you move to Tennessee?

In the summer of 2022, my family up and moved to Knoxville. We have lived in MANY different places for many reasons, but we want to stay put here! No offense to those from Mississippi, but we just didn’t love it. It’s super hot, super humid, and fun things are many hours drive away. We got bored quickly in the summers, and the particular town we lived in was very materialistic and it was really taking it’s toll on my mental health. I never felt like I fit in because we aren’t rich, and I had a hard time feeling valuable or like I had anything to offer. We love the mountains, the weather here, SO many activities, restaurants, etc. It’s never ending! Plus my parents are less than an hour away. We haven’t looked back and are happy with our decision and thankful it all worked out!

Country Roads, take me to a cabin! (The place wher Country Roads, take me to a cabin! (The place where I belong!) ad ⛰️

Recently we spent a long weekend at a beautiful, huge cabin in Sevierville Tennessee, which is just outside of Pigeon Forge. We have stayed in a lot of cabins, so let me just tell you how staying with @overmoon is different. 👍🏻

1.) You can add on services and products to your stay such as grocery delivery, early check in or late check out, and you can even rent a dog crate and it will be waiting for you when you check in. (Yes dogs are allowed!) 🐕

2.) There is a local host that can answer any questions you have and make you feel right at home and is just a text away!

3.) They thought of everything! From bubble bath for the kids to body lotion, nightlights, a high chair and baby gate, they truly have everything you need so you don’t have to lug extra stuff around. They even stock extra bathroom and kitchen supplies!

4.) Easy check out! No long list of chores like empty the trash, do the dishes or raise the air conditioner. You literally just pack up and go, making your departure easy and stress free.

5.) They text you the door code and WiFi password at check in so you can immediately get inside the home. They also have a QR code you can scan that gives you home and area details such as the numbers to emergency services like the fire department and even the closest veterinarian!

I saved my stories to a highlight under “CabinPF23” so be sure to check it out!

Overmoon has homes in Tennessee AND Florida, so be sure to check them out for your next trip. Also, if you use code HEATHER10 in the next couple of weeks, you can save 10% on your stay! Visit Overmoon.com and check it out!

👇🏻My best tip for traveling with kids is thi 👇🏻My best tip for traveling with kids is this:

Treat it like a “trip” and not a vacation. 😬

If you set your expeditions a little lower and don’t imagine your trip to look like a movie set or IG reel, it will help you to stress less and enjoy it!

I have problems sometimes with expecting too much out of an 8 year old, and it admittedly can get me bent out of shape. Ever since I heard the “trip not a vacation” quote, it has helped a lot!

There will be a time when she doesn’t want to travel with us, or when she has moved out and started her own family trips and traditions. I’m sure I will wish for those crazy trip days, so even though sometimes it’s SO FRUSTRATING, I’m trying my best to just enjoy those moments!

We ❤️ Anakeesta in Gatlinburg! And surprise, We ❤️ Anakeesta in Gatlinburg!

And surprise, we are going to stay in a cabin in the Pigeon Forge area, TOMORROW! 💃🏻

EK doesn’t have school the next two days, so we decided to make a fun 4 day weekend in one of our favorite places. Honestly, we don’t have a firm itinerary (hoping we make it to Anakeesta!) and I’m kind of excited about that.

My mom is going to join us for a couple days, and we plan to just chill and be together (and we are taking the pups!) more about where we are staying, soon! Make sure to follow along on my stories starting tomorrow!

😵‍💫 Oooff. This is a tough one. In this cr 😵‍💫 Oooff. This is a tough one. In this crazy world of social media and people who have no problem telling strangers rude and hateful things, it can be hard to not start taking those “opinions” to heart, and then changing who you are because of them.

Having an online presence means you have to have thick skin. I have been called every name under the sun, and been told things that have made me cry, make my stomach turn, and made me want to quit.

Regardless of what your occupation is, we have to be careful to not let others opinions rock us. Really it says more about them than it does about you when someone is hateful.

But easier said than done, right? For me it has to be a daily (sometimes hourly!) choice to remind myself who I am, and that I have value just the way I am. For instance, I refuse to buy expensive things just to look cool, allow my child to do things so she will fit in, or change the way God made me to be liked by people online.

I am so thankful you are all here. I truly want to encourage others and remind them they are beautifully and wonderfully made. God didn’t make anyone exactly like you! Your unique set of gifts and talents were designed just. For. You. So why would we want to be like anyone else?

Shine bright today, and remember that the opinions of others do not define you. Don’t change you. You would be missed. ♥️
