Mardi Gras Weekend

February 20, 2012 | family, fitness, running, Uncategorized

Happy Monday! Normally I don’t welcome Monday’s but this one I do because I want it to be Thursday. That is the day I leave for the Disney Princess half marathon weekend! So stoked, but SO MUCH to do before I leave! Oil change, vet appointment for pups, clean house, grocery shop for Bobby, blog, call some clients for both my jobs, etc. etc. But, I am starting things off calmly this morning with some yoga at the YMCA before things get crazy. But first, this is what you missed this weekend:

Weekly Recap February: Week 3

———————————————————-

Friday evening, Bobby and I drove to my parents house. We were in a hurry because Orpheus, the Mardi Gras parade that goes right outside my parents neighborhood, was rolling at 7:00. We made it just in time and headed for the parade route.

The weather was perfect, mid to low 60’s and the rain was supposed to hold off until after midnight, yippee!

We arrived about twenty minutes early and waited for the sounds of the bands.

Soon enough, the first floats started coming down the street. Side note: This is a small potatoes parade compared to the ones downtown NOLA we used to go to. But, it’s still fun, and so close to the house you can’t not go!

We have a roller derby club????

The bands are my favorite part, I love the music! Lots of dancing went on…

A Saints float!

yay beads!

Throw me somethin’ mister!!!

Some guy threw me a heart, aaawww

aaaaannddd some women threw me a hat. Specifically saw me, reached down, got the hat, and gave it to me. Not so sure what to think about that one.

Ok, here are two short little video Bobby took of me and my dad trying to get beads from some of the floats.

Ignore the spastic dancing please. I was having fun!

Parade night would not be complete without King Cake with cream cheese filling. yyuuummm.

Saturday, we were supposed to do our long run, but instead spent some of the day under a tornado warning. My parents ditches are deep..and water was flooding over the driveway.

Sunday, Bobby and I got up and ran ten miles. Mom ran as well but not with us.

We then threw a surprise princess party for my aunt who was turning 70. It was so cute. She had NO idea.

I was in charge or decorations.

Surprise!!!!

There were 18 family members over, we had a really good time. All too soon, it was time to clean up, pack up, and head back to Mississippi. A great, but exhausting weekend.

QOTD: Have you ever had or thrown a surprise party? Any special theme? We threw my dad a 40th surprise “over the hill party” when I was younger, we went all out, so much fun!

*More Rouge Orleans recap coming up tomorrow!

I had a surprise wedding shower thrown for me at work :). And we’ve thrown a few surprise parties around here, last summer we did one for a coworker when she became a US citizen, and we invited her family too. It was so amazing to see the look on her face (obviously her family knew about it)… definitely worth it.

I went to a Mardi Gras party yesterday thrown by some friends and we had King Cake too! I was so glad when the baby was found so I could go back and have another piece without worrying, lol. We also listened to the Sounds of the Seasons channel on TV, they played mardi gras music all day!

Thank you for posting this. I’m living vicariously through you…miss my days in NOLA 🙁

My weekend: I made homemade king cake using the recipe on fellow FFA blog ROJ Running. It was yummy. Will be posting my about it tomorrow.

    Have a great week!

I miss living in Louisiana and going to Mardi Gras parades! Maybe when my kids get a little older, we will take them to some “family friendly” parades near my husband’s hometown.
Maybe the lady who gave you a hat thought you might need some protection in case it rained? So glad you had a fun weekend with your family. Have a great time at Disney – maybe next year I will be running this race with my sister!

Sounds like you had a lot of fun! I almost forgot completely about Mardi Gras until I read this post. LOL. I threw my parent’s a surprise 25th wedding anniversary party. Soooo fun, they had no idea. I doubt I could pull anything off like that again though it was a lot of work!

YES I was dancing, eating mac and cheese from the YES I was dancing, eating mac and cheese from the kids menu, and singing “Let it Go” with a butter knife while wearing Mickey ears on our Disney cruise. 🚢

When I was 12, I was worried a lot… worried about failing, scared of what people would think of me, and of not fitting in or being “cool”.
I turned 40 this year and have been spending time trying to figure out exactly who I really am with all expectations stripped away. I don’t love the term “finding yourself”, but here I feel like it fits. ✨

Maybe finding yourself means going back to being 12.… and being myself without being scared. Heather at 12 would never believe this version of me… but I think she’d be proud. 💛✨

Emma Kate turned 11 last month during our sailing and we did so many birthday things! She got a ton of “happy birthday’s” from crew and guests to make it extra special. ✨

👉🏻For a link to the birthday ears she wore (they have lots of colors and variations!) comment “EARS” and I will send it to you!

This is 11. ✨🎉 Not sure how this happened, b This is 11. ✨🎉

Not sure how this happened, but time snuck up on me and now I have an 11 year old. 🥹
We couldn’t think of a more fun place to celebrate that on Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island in the Bahamas.

She started the day with presents, then hours and hours in the sun on the island, followed by cake and singing at dinner, the tween club, and fireworks at sea! (They were for pirate night but we said they were birthday fireworks!)

Happy birthday to the most fierce, kind, competitive, loyal, funny, and beautiful little girl I know. 🩷 Never change who you are and stop growing up so fast! So. Blessed to have the best title there is, Emma Kate’s mom. 💖

I’ve been adding Incrediwear’s circulation socks and sport socks into my training routine, and they’ve helped me recover faster, reduce soreness, and keep my legs fresh for long runs.
Unlike compression, Incrediwear products actually increase blood flow, which means more oxygen + nutrients where your body needs it most.

And it’s not just athletes who benefit. My dad’s had two knee replacements, and the Incrediwear knee sleeves help him manage swelling, restore mobility, and feel comfortable moving again.

From world-class athletes like LeBron James and Steph Curry to everyday runners (and even my dad!), Incrediwear makes recovery accessible to everyone. 🏃‍♀️💪
