ZOOMA Here I Come

September 11, 2012 | fitness, running

Awhile back, I heard that the ZOOMA race series was going to be unveiling a new race location. I pretty much stalked their website, hoping that it would be somewhere in the south. I was surprised when my wish came true, and the newest race was announced for Amelia Island, Florida, and would be hosted at the Ritz Carlton!

Here is some info about the race:

You’ll be welcomed to the ZOOMA weekend with a Fitness Expo at the host hotel. Take in the oceanfront sunset as you drink a cocktail (or mocktail if you prefer) at a sponsored happy hour before your post-race meal on Friday evening. On Saturday morning, awaken early to run a flat and scenic half marathon or 5K. After the finish line, celebrate your accomplishment with friends at a fun After-Party Expo on the oceanfront lawn at The Ritz-Carlton.  Enjoy your adrenaline- and wine-fueled buzz with live music, massage, shopping, recovery yoga, and lots of empowering girls’ weekend energy.

Race cap: 2,500

Average Race Day Temperature:
High 63°F
Low 44°F

I really wanted to run this race, so kept checking back for updates and information. Then, recently, I found out I was to be named a ZOOMA race ambassador for the Florida 2013 race! What does this mean? I will be running the race, and spreading the good news to you all encouraging you to sign up and join me at the beach. I really hope to see some of you there, and if you have any questions at all about the event, please feel free to contact me.

Never heard of ZOOMA? Let me fill you in!

“Imagine a powerful sea of women on the move–encouraging fellow runners, creating unforgettable moments, and celebrating personal running triumphs.  Picture a post-race party and expo all wrapped up in one memorable “after-party expo” where these strong goal-oriented women come together for well-deserved celebration.  This is the Muscle Milk Light ZOOMA Women’s Race Series.”

I love it! I can’t wait to share more with you about this and be a part of it all. It is going to be a great time, with wonderful sponsors and gorgeous scenery. Please consider signing up, and be sure to follow them on Twitter for updates!

QOTD: Have you ever run a race geared towards women? Or a race at the beach? Spill!

———————————–

I cannot let today pass without acknowledging the date on the calendar. I still remember exactly where I was when I found out about the attacks. We must never become complacent and forget about what happened that day, and never forget the families who still suffer every day missing their loved ones. I will be saying a special prayer for those families today and hope you will, too.

Woohoo Heather! Congrats!!!! I would love to run that race!!! Sounds awesome! The only race I’ve done that is geared more toward women is the Disney Princess Half. And I’ve done the Gulf Coast Half Marathon on Pensacola Beach (twice) and Gulf Shores!

I’m really thinking about it. I could even carpool down with one of my clients in the area who is doing the race. Plus, how cool to run a race with you! I’m just thinking about if it would be too much travel to go with Peter having to work form home at those times.

seems like such a cool event. I ran the SoCal Wine Country Women’s Trail Half Marathon this year – I think there were only 2 men who signed up. It was awesome to run with a bunch of ladies who, at least at my pace, were all very nice and willing chat here and there. Loved it!

If you’re planning a trip to Florida’s Forgotten C If you’re planning a trip to Florida’s Forgotten Coast, save this one. 🌊 #RentingTheCoastPartner

We stayed at Singing Waves in Cape San Blas, and it was everything we wanted in a beach getaway: beautiful views, plenty of space, and the kind of place that makes you slow down and actually enjoy vacation.

What really stood out, though, was Renting the Coast. They’re a locally owned, family run company that manages vacation homes throughout Cape San Blas, Port St. Joe, Mexico Beach, and the surrounding Forgotten Coast communities.

Instead of managing hundreds of properties, they intentionally keep their inventory smaller so they can provide a more personal experience for both guests and homeowners. They’re known for being accessible, responsive, and focused on making sure every stay goes smoothly.

If Cape San Blas has been on your travel list, Singing Waves is absolutely worth checking out, and so is Renting the Coast’s collection of homes along Florida’s most underrated stretch of coastline. ☀️

I didn’t realize how much mental space hair removal was taking up until it just… wasn’t anymore. Between games, trips, and everything in between, having something I can do at home in minutes has been a total game changer. The app-guided treatments keep me consistent without having to think about it, and I’m already noticing smoother skin that actually lasts. And yes — the full-body, 10-minute-at-home situation still feels a little unreal.

If you’ve been on the fence, Prime Day (June 14–27) is definitely the moment to check it out with $120 off. #BraunSmartIPL

What we found in Florida was something better than that. #ad

Our first stop in Auburndale was all about slowing down in the best way. We stayed in a cozy tiny home at Camp Margaritaville (you can also stay in an RV!). We enjoyed coffee on the porch, our daughter loved the pool and waterslide (there is even a splash zone for the littles!), and at night we slowed things down with s’mores instead of screens. It felt like nature + comfort + family time all finally in the same place. They have so many other amenities like mini golf, golf cart rentals, pickleball, a playground, cornhole, and more. Nearby, we explored the Florida Children’s Museum and had incredible food and drinks at Smith’s American Tavern and Black & Brew Coffee.

Then, we headed over to Fort Myers to experience a completely different side of the state. Shelling walks at sunrise, beach volleyball, pool cabanas, and the kind of Gulf sunsets that make everyone go quiet for a minute. Direct beach access at the Margaritaville Beach Resort Fort Myers made it effortless to go from “let’s check it out” to toes in the sand in minutes. There were several restaurants on property, so we never even got in our car. That plus live music, fire pits, the spa, and lawn games made it easy to want to stay put and relax.

What stood out most wasn’t just the scenery… it was how easy it was to actually be together here. No rushing or overplanning. That’s the true Floridays feeling for me. Laid-back, a little unexpected, and exactly what we didn’t know we needed. 🌴☀️
