Mornin’ yall! I had a great weekend with my family which was JUST what I needed to help me get over my funk. I still don’t feel out of the woods as far as fitness and my funk go, but my overall attitude is much much better. Amazing what some time with family and a snowball on a hot day can do for you!
Ok, so you know that I am planning to run goofy this year, but did you know that this year also marks the 20th anniversary of the Disney Marathon? Since Disney goes all out for every special occasion imaginable, you can bet they have some special things planned for the anniversary celebration! For starters, runners will get a special 20th anniversary mickey medal for completing the marathon! Also, there is a new post race party at Downtown Disney, and, in honor of this year, the full marathon course has been altered for even more fun (with a special surprise at mile 20!)
“Runners to Race Around the “High Banks’’ and “Bases’’ As Part of 20thAnniversary Walt Disney World Marathon Course”
Say wwwhhaattt?
Oh yes my friends, we will be running through the speedway and around the bases at the Wide World of Sports complex/baseball stadium! How fun is that? Not only does it sound fun, but it will break up the miles between a couple of the parks and there won’t be as long of a “lonely stretch” if you know what I mean. I can’t wait to see what the mile 20 surprise is, all I know is I will have my camera!
Need more incentive?
“In addition to the 26.2-mile marathon, the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend presented by Cigna (Jan. 10-13) will feature events for the entire family such as Kids’ Races throughout the weekend, including the Mickey Mile, a Family Fun Run 5K on Friday, the Half Marathon on Saturday and the Marathon on Sunday. There is also Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge which involves running the Half Marathon and the full Marathon – 39.3 miles! The Health and Fitness Expo runs throughout the weekend at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and features the latest in running technology and fashion, as well as renowned running experts like Jeff Galloway, the official training consultant for runDisney.”
It’s no secret I am a HUGE runDisney fan, completing the half marathon, full marathon, wine and dine half, Princess half, royal family 5k, Halloween 5k, and castaway 5k. WHEW! I highly recommended running this race, or any runDisney race!

QOTD: What’s your fav runDisney race? Never run one? Which would you like to run?
Miz says
PRINCESSSS HALF 🙂

I wouldn’t turn down the opportunity to do any Disney race, but I think if I went down there for one it would probably be the marathon :). It would definitely be an entertaining 26.2 miles and probably the only way I’d do a full. Good luck with training for the Goofy challenge!

So far I have only run the Princess 5k and the Wine and Dine 5k. Out of the two I really loved the Princess 5k and will NEVER do a 5k in the Animal Kingdom again. It just wasn’t as much fun….there wasn’t enough to look at…overall I really did not enjoy the Wine and Dine 5k. I am training for the Wine and Dine Half right now. Did you know that the first Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is the night before the Wine and Dine Half? I can’t wait to see all the Christmas Decorations! Good luck training for the Goofy. My husband is training to run the Disney Marathon so I will be there cheering you both on!

As an Ohioan (therefore pretty far from Disney) who is fairly new to (but in love with!) marathoning, I desperately want to “go goofy”, but it will take some planning and saving up, I think.

I want to do Mickey XX so badly! 🙁 I need anniversary bling!

I’m so envious of anyone going to Disneyworld! I did the Disneyland Half last year and loved it. Disney does things right. Good luck training!
Sarah says
I want to do this race so badly, not sure if I have the confidence to do it… I am a trained up to 15.5 miles… It would be my first marathon.. Advice Heather?
Heather says
Yes!!! Work up to 20 or 21 most people have that as their longest training run. You can totally do it!
Paulette says
I’d really like to run Disneyland! It didn’t work out this year, but hopefully next year. Also, I love all of your skirts. Especially the black/white and yellow arm warmer combo!
Kristen says
I would do the princess half but first I’ve got to get my mileage up there!
Mindy Bobe says
I’m soooo excited! I’ve ran the Princess Half twice but never ran the Marathon Weekend races. I signed up for the full…it will be my second full and I’m looking forward to just running it for fun and the pictures lol! I have a few friends that are running it and it will be their first full so we plan to have a great time! And then next year (2014) I wanna run Goofy! I’ll see how your experience goes first! 😉
Heather says
you will have a blast! Are you staying on property?
Mindy Bobe says
Yes we are staying in All Star Sports!
Heather says
are you booked already?
Mindy Bobe says
Yes girl we are booked already. My friend Sally already booked us. I didn’t know you were a travel agent until recently or I would have definitely called you! I will be calling you for the Princess Half for sure! 😉
Matt says
This will be my first Goofy. Ran the Castaway 5k this yr and did the Marathon in 2010. I’m ready for it. Pray for good weather…
Heather says
My first goofy too, good luck! I did the half in 2010 in the sleet. Awful! It was my very first half!
