2010 In Review

December 31, 2010 | Uncategorized

Happy New Year’s Eve! I will be honest…Today feels like any other day. We aren’t big partiers so New Year’s Eve is usually pretty boring around here. It’s been raining on and off all day, so there will probably be a lot of unhappy drunk people in New Orleans tonight.

When I did a post on my one year blogiversary, I pretty much covered all of the big events that happened this year. So, as to not bore you with the same thing all over again, I thought I would just list a few of the more popular posts based on page views and comments. So, in no particular order, here ya go!

Disney Half Marathon 2010

Blogging Tips

The Birth Control Pill Debate

Mardi Gras RnR Race Recap

Best Husband Ever Take Two

As I think back on this year, I can honestly say it has been one of the hardest, if not the hardest year of my life. Some GREAT things happened, like I took up blogging and ran 4 half marathons and a few 5k’s. I also started training for my first full marathon. Some not so great things happened, too…Like Bobby’s dad passing away this summer, making the decision to close up Bobby’s law firm and move 3 hours away so Bobby could take a new job, as well as dealing with some very very tough personal things I have yet to share about on the blog. (No, I am not pregnant, and yes, we are both healthy.)

We are also still trying to sell two homes and build another while I am living an hour and a half from my husband at my parents house. We have laughed, we have cried, we have faced a lot together this year, and I can honestly say I am more than ready to close the door on 2010 and step into a brighter 2011. I do not wish anything away that has happened to me, I firmly believe there is a reason for everything and I try to look at my trials as a learning experience. God has taught me a lot this year, and it hasn’t always been the easy way, but I can be hard headed like that.

With that, I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to read my blog and post comments this year. I love reading and responding to readers, you are truly an inspiration and part of why I do what I do!

So, with that, I will wave goodbye to 2010 and, smile heading into the future. I can’t wait to see what is in store!

Cheers to a happy and healthy 2011!!

We aren’t big drinkers either but may enjoy a glass of wine tonite at home while we watch fireworks. I’m scared to go out on NYE…crazy drivers everywhere!
Sounds like you have had a challenging but good year with good friends, family and husband who love you. God never gives us more than we can handle. Thanks for sharing your life with us on this blog!
My 2010 has definitely had it’s ups and downs. We moved to a great city for my hubs job. I’ve met new friends and live in paradise (Naples FL). But in doing so I had to quit my job at Legal Aid (I’m an atty too) which I loved and I miss my friends. My family has had some struggles too. But we are all happy and healthy going into a new year!

Hope you have a Haptastic New Year! Sorry to ramble 🙂

our house in Madison, Bobby’s dad’s house in Madison. Oh ya, it took us 3 months of going over there multiple times a week to clean it out. that was fun! I made my parents promise they will get rid of all of their crap before they get old, because I refuse to clean it all out one day when they pass away! It stinks!

[…] It is a bit overwhelming for me to think of things in terms of an entire year. So many big (and little) things happened this year in my life. Just going back through my posts from this past year has had me laughing and crying all at the same time. Then I re-read my 2010 recap. Whew. 2010 was a particularly tough year, you can check out it’s recap as well. […]

We didn’t set out looking for a “perfect” trip… we We didn’t set out looking for a “perfect” trip… we just needed a break from the noise.
What we found in Florida was something better than that. #ad

Our first stop in Auburndale was all about slowing down in the best way. We stayed in a cozy tiny home at Camp Margaritaville (you can also stay in an RV!). We enjoyed coffee on the porch, our daughter loved the pool and waterslide (there is even a splash zone for the littles!), and at night we slowed things down with s’mores instead of screens. It felt like nature + comfort + family time all finally in the same place. They have so many other amenities like mini golf, golf cart rentals, pickleball, a playground, cornhole, and more. Nearby, we explored the Florida Children’s Museum and had incredible food and drinks at Smith’s American Tavern and Black & Brew Coffee.

Then, we headed over to Fort Myers to experience a completely different side of the state. Shelling walks at sunrise, beach volleyball, pool cabanas, and the kind of Gulf sunsets that make everyone go quiet for a minute. Direct beach access at the Margaritaville Beach Resort Fort Myers made it effortless to go from “let’s check it out” to toes in the sand in minutes. There were several restaurants on property, so we never even got in our car. That plus live music, fire pits, the spa, and lawn games made it easy to want to stay put and relax.

What stood out most wasn’t just the scenery… it was how easy it was to actually be together here. No rushing or overplanning. That’s the true Floridays feeling for me. Laid-back, a little unexpected, and exactly what we didn’t know we needed. 🌴☀️

When the Smoky Mountain heat gets unbearable, we h When the Smoky Mountain heat gets unbearable, we head to Pigeon Forge Snow. ❄️ #sponsored

One of our favorite family activities in Pigeon Forge because you can snow tube year-round, rain or shine, without worrying about the weather outside.

My daughter could do the tubing hill over and over, and the indoor snow play area makes it even more fun. Honestly such a good break from the summer heat. Plus, it’s super close to nearby attractions like Dollywood and several mountain coasters.

Here is my favorite in park Disneyland character e Here is my favorite in park Disneyland character experience: The Plaza Inn character breakfast. Here are a few things to know:

✨ Meet Minnie before you even enter the restaurant and get photos with her + a photopass photographer.
✨ Food is all you can eat. Minnie waffles, bacon, eggs, pastries, fruit, and more!
✨ Multiple characters visit your table throughout the meal.
✨ Reservations are a must and can book up quickly!

This was such a fun way to start a park day and meet several characters without spending part of the day waiting in character lines.

Getting in a walk or run when I can. Actually drinking my water. Sticking to a skincare routine instead of overthinking it. Paying attention to my hair and scalp instead of just throwing it up and moving on. Nothing extreme, just consistency in the basics.

I’ve also been using Mochi Health for personalized skincare and hair support, and it’s made it way easier to stay on track without guessing what my skin or hair needs.

If you want to try it, there’s $40 off your first month through the link in my bio. @joinmochi #joinmochi mochihealth

Dancing Bear Appalachian Bistro took part in Cork to Fork on the Tennessee Whiskey Trail, and every bite felt like a love letter to local flavor. From bourbon-glazed pork belly to a warm cinnamon-bourbon bread pudding that honestly didn’t stand a chance at our table… this was one of those meals you remember.

Mountain views, chef-driven dishes, and whiskey worked right into the menu in the best way. 😋
