Belt = Sucess, run = fail

So I told you I was going to do 5 miles last night with my fuel belt so I didn’t have to carry water…well, I have good news and bad news. The belt worked out. Ya it was heavy and took some time to get used to, but it is stretchy and I pulled it down tight over my hips and it stayed in place well, score!

Bad news, my run was a total flop! Everything about it was bad! I can’t even blame the heat. I mean, it was hot but I have run in way hotter. 1/2 a mile in my hip starts hurting. What? I haven’t had hip problems since March! Then I get an awful cramp. I work through it and from mile 1 to mile 2 I have a great mile. Then, around 2.4, I get really weak and shaky and can barely walk let alone run. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME! I think I ate enough….I waited an hour to run after I eat…I had water…I don’t know what happened! Any guesses? I was so frustrated I ran back to my car and just did 3 miles. Bleh. So, I am taking today off so maybe my hip will behave and I will try again tomorrow.

We are headed to NOLA for the weekend to see my parents and are going to Bobby’s favorite place tonight, the seafood buffet at the casino. Oh yes. He loves it. Hope everyone has a good weekend! I will be on Twitter, so follow me if you already aren’t!

Fuel Up

Today has been pretty productive. I have cleaned up the house, made a bunch of phone calls/paying things off/getting paperwork done etc., shaved the dogs (oh, the aftermath!)

bathed the dogs, packed to go to my parents in New Orleans, made and ate lunch, washed some of Bellas stuffed toys, washed clothes, caught up on my blog reading. WHEW! Now…something is missing…oh yes, I haven’t run yet today! I was planning on running this morning but by time I got up and ate breakfast it was after 8 and already so hot and sunny, bleh. I decided I would wait until this evening and drive over to my favorite neighborhood to run. I am hoping for 5 miles, which means lots of water. This poses a problem because I can only carry so much. Enter fuel belt. I only wear this when I absolutely have to b/c it drives me crazy. It will be nice to have somewhere to put my phone and have my hands free, so I will see how it goes and let you know. I haven’t used it since last year. I will also stash an extra bottle in my car so when i pass by I can re fill up. Praying I have the motivation to get out there and go!

Puppy Love and Mileage

So if you know me, you know I love my puppies. No, they are not really puppies, one is 2 and one is almost 9, but it’s kinda like how parents call their grown children their babies. Yeah, I guess I will be one of those people. So, with my love being expressed, I do wish one thing…that I had a puppy running buddy. My poor 8 pound dogs wouldn’t last 5 minutes on a run. Not only because they are so small, but so undisciplined and extremly distracted. We would get nowhere.

I read articles all te time about tis person and their dog, and so on and so forth. i even read an article in Runners World about a lady who ran a half marathon with her dog, and he got a medal, too. It was really cute, and I was kinda jealous. 

So I try and think of all the things I love about my non running dogs, like….they are small enough to sit in my lap, or sleep on the bed, and I can easily carry them around and restrain them from attacking small children (which they don’t do….usually.)

But really, who could not love this sweet face anyway?

and no, this one is not dead. She just likes the coolness of the tile floor. Smart girl. I didn’t want to disturb her.

Today the humidity was fortunately lower, like yesterday, except the sun was out today while it was overcast yeaterday. Bobby ran with me this time, and we finished in a decent time. This month’s running isn’t where I wanted it to be, but it is DEFINATELY better than last months. A 10 day vaca and 2 death in the family will really hurt your miles, which is fine, but I was determined to do better this moth, which I have.

Humidity and Sweet Tea

Huh? ok here goes.

I had a good run this morning. FINALLY! I looked up the weather on my iphone and saw it “felt like” 91, with 75% humidity. SCORE! Isn’t that sad, that those numbers make me happy? ALSO, it was overcast. Double score! You can bet I laced up and took off! It. felt. great. For the first time in months, I actaully wasn’t dying by 1/2 a mile in, and I was actually *gasp* smiling! I did 3 miles, stopped twice for 10 seconds each to drink water (I am not capable of drinking a lot of water and running at the same time…it’s not pretty) I felt GOOD after, and was happy, not frustrated and discouraged. Sure, I was still soaking wet and it was plenty hot, but it’s that dang humidity, dry heat is SO much more bearable!

Look what I found:

All summer I have been struggling mentally with my running. Why am I slow? Am I actually geting worse? This is not fun! Today prooved that I may be slow, but I am not getting worse. I am thankful for the heat to make me a stronger runner, but that doesn’t mean I can’t wait for fall!

Ok, so inquiring minds have asked, so here ya go. I know some people will think this isn’t exciting in the least, but it is to me!


eeekkk! I am so excited to do laundry now! If you saw my sad machines I used to use, you would feel for me. I had Bobby’s GRANDPARENTS old washing machine and dryer. Oh yes. It was THAT awesome. It was getting bad, like having to run the dryer twice to dry things, etc. WHo knows how much electricity it was using! Also we will save on water for sure. I am so excited!

But before I came home to my exciting new appliances, I spent the day babysitting at their cousins pool. It was fabulous! The sun was coming in and out from behind the clouds so it wasn’t too hot!

HAHA my clothes in the dryer just finished, and the buzzer plays a little tune instead of beeping obnoxiously. Too funny! Rest day today, run tomorrow! have a good night!

Thought I would post a few fun things for today! Yesterday I decided in preperation for matathon training I had to run more than 3 miles. So, I ran 4. I am trying to be so positive about Mississippi weather, and I know it will make me a better runner…but I felt like I was swimming in a fish tank. It was overcast so the sun wasn’t out which was nice, but whew!

I ordered my favoriate luna protein bars off amazon because Kroger never has them, and I go to Kroger the other day…yup, they had them. That’s ok. I am getting 24 bars hopefully today in the mail!

Ok going to hit the gym, hope everyone has a good Monday!

Blustery Day

Evening friends!

Today we went to Lowe’s and bought something new for the house. Any guesses???

I will tell you on Tuesday, then I will have pictures :o)

I was supposed to run this morning, but slept 10 hours till 9:00!!! I think I was  alittle tired, no? So I said I would run this evening, which it took a LOT of willpower to do, considering we ate a HUGE dinner at chilli’s and my stomach now looks like I am 4 months pregnant. seriously. I forced myself out on my own, set to do 4 miles. The first mile was so nice and quiet an then out of nowhere the crazy wind picks up and literally is pushing me down the street, running skirt flying everywhere, and since I was running into it, dirt, small rocks, etc.were pelting me in the face and I was running with my eyes closed! (Kids, don’t try this at home.) Things were blowing across people’s lawns and the street, so I made an executive decision to cut it to 3 miles. (It also made me run fast..I hauled butt home it looked so scary outside, and I didn’t want to get impaled by a patio umbrella or something.) See for yourself:

New Kicks

I finally got some new running shoes, yay! (Birthday gift from the husband)
I have been wearing nike vomeros which I really liked, except I overpronate, especially in my right foot, and I wanted to try something with a little more stability. So, I went from this

I picked these because the Asics all were listed under stability shoes, and the model I got won a best pick award, so I decided to try them out. I haven’t run in them yet, but I did walk around the house some and they feel alright, so we will see! I am trying to wait another couple weeks before I start using them, until I start my marathon training so they will last me awhile. I think the ones I have still have a few more miles in them.

Today was a rest day and tomorrow I will run here at the house, outside.

Best Husband Ever (take two)

Well, somehow, he outdid himself! I went to the gym this morning, then we met for lunch and I went to get groceries while he “went to the gym.” I came home and was on the phone with a client in the office when he came home. i got off the phone and went in the kitchen and he got down on one knee and I was so confused…then he handed me a car key/box things and I was again, confused, until I looked outside and this was sitting in the driveway!

I was so shocked! Bobby told me he had been planning it for a couple weeks, had gone to the dealership, haggled with the guy, etc! I of course gave him a big hug and immediately started crying. I was also very happy because Bobby drives a 1994 corvette with no AC or heat and it leaks when it rains, and so he is finally getting rid of it and will drive my 2007 4runner, so I am very happy he will have a good car now finally!
I of course had to get in

Best Husband ever! It is a 4runner limited, with leather seats, a sun roof, bluetooth, GPS/navigation system, voice command, heated seats, tailgate package, etc. etc. There are so many buttons I need to go read my manual. I am one lucky girl!!!

At the gym I did 30 min elliptical and a mile with incline on the treadmill at the gym.

QOTD: What is something nice your spouse has done for you?


I realized something while running today. I went to the gym and wanted to run 3 miles without stopping at a good pace. This is easy for me in cool weather but unfortunately with this heat I have not been able to do it outside. Well, mentally, I thought I just couldn’t do it period, even inside on a treadmill, because it has just been awhile, but I told myself that I was going to do it, had a goal.
Midway into the run, I was tired, and wanted to stop. I was uncomfortable, and wanted to walk and drink some water, but I refused to let myself so I kept going. got to mile 2.5 and thought “it would be ok if I just walked for 10 seconds while I downed some water” but again, I refused to let myself. I was not happy. I was MISERABLE, bored, tired, hot, very sweaty, and wanted to quit. I kept up my speed and powered through the whole thing.
After, I walked for about 10 minutes just to cool off and do some thinking. From this workout, it’s very obvious I CAN run 3 miles without stopping, but it’s that UNCOMFORTABLE feeling I shy away from. As soon as it gets hard, I feel like I need to stop. There is a certain pace I feel like I could hold for hours, but one I push past that pace to go a little faster…it gets hard, and I want to quit. Of course, the key to getting better is pressing on through the uncomfortable pace until it BECOMES your comfortable pace, but let’s face it people, mentally that can be tough!
So I am putting together an “uncomfortable” plan of action. I am going to try to do more tempo runs, where I am holding a faster pace, but not for the whole run. Just in intervals so that I can boost my speed and my confidence at the same time, and hopefully those intervals will just get longer and longer. It’s amazing how mentally challenging running is. Now if I can just convince my head that my body can run a marathon, I will be good to go!
