2012. Game On.

December 30, 2011 | Mental Health, Uncategorized

Happy New Year’s Eve eve! This short week is nice huh? Next week will be short too….so many reasons to love the holidays! We had a busy weekend planned, but a very fun one. But let’s back track. Yesterday, I did some cleaning because my aunt and cousin were coming over. I met them for lunch and then they wanted to come see my house. We girl talked for a while before they left. They Bobby and I hit the gym after he got home from work. I am getting really excited about the prospect of running in a week’s time!

Ok, so let’s talk “resolutions.” I have some mixed feelings about these babies. On one hand, I think it’s GREAT to make plans and goals for the next year. On the other hand, it can easily set you up for failure, and also, why wait until a new year, why not start now?

So, I have decided instead of having resolutions, I will continue to have “mini goals” like I did last year, and also to have something in life I want to “work on.” I feel that if I leave it vague and obscure, I can’t very easily “fail.” I shared with you yesterday that my word for 2012 is determination. This doesn’t have any “specifics” and can mean (and does mean) a lot of different things to me.

What the heck am I saying? For instance…I can decide one day in February “I am determined to paint the rest of our fence, gosh darn it!” See? I can make things up as I go, al falling under the category of working on my determination. I will be picking and choosing things as they happen, and then celebrate the victories afterwards.

With THAT being said, we also have a tradition around our house where we write out goals for the next year and put them in our stocking for safekeeping. Then, the next Christmas when we pull out the decorations, we can look at out goals for the past year. It’s really fun! So, I will continue to do this for the sake of tradition and fun and mainly to see how my goals and life change over the years.  These are not “ohmygoshIhavetodothisorelse” kind of goals…just fun things it would be nice to see happen that year. It is good for reflection I think.

SO….I am DETERMIND to make 2012 a great year, whatever that may mean each month. I will let you know how it goes. Game on 2012.

QOTD: How do you feel about resolutions? Do you have any?

That is a great idea to put them in your stocking for next year to see how you did! I think I might steal that idea as we are taking down our decor this weekend. Have a safe and happy New Years 🙂

I love that you put them in your stockings. I am always afraid to set goals because I am afraid of failure, but I also need that little extra push.

LOVE the idea of putting the goals in your stockings to see how you did by next year 🙂

Right now I’m kinda mixed on my goals, since I just got news a few hours ago that 2012 is not going to be starting on a good note (financial and my daughters oral surgery is on 1/6 just 2 days before her 16th bday) so I’m kinda emo right now.

Guess generalized goals are to get my new biz up and going full force (willwearyourad.com) and get more consultants signed up with the other biz and just make the best of 2012 being me and discovering who that is 🙂

I don’t do resolutions, but I do have some goals for this year. I think my word may be “Do”. Find something I want to do, and actually Do It—Half Marathon, Sprint-Tri, Daily documenting with Project Life (http://www.beckyhiggins.com/products/), eating healthier and cleaner.

I LOVE the stocking idea! Such a fun way to see how you are doing on your goals. And if some have to go back in the stocking for next year – no big deal 🙂 Determination is such a great word – so many ways to utilize it!

I was thinking the same thing today. I am not a fan of resolutions, as I think anytime you want to do something you shouldn’t need to wait to do it. I love the idea of determination though!

Agreed, I am not so much on the resolution front, but determined to make 2012 great, new or different in some way.

Love the stocking idea! My sister-n-law and I did something similar. We wrote ourselves letters about where we were at in our lives, things we wanted to change, things we hoped would stay the same and on January 1st we would open it up and read it!
    No resolutions here, just goals…:)

I’m not a fan of resolutions either. Last year I made a list of 12 goals for 2011. I met 6 of them. Not too shabby. I will do the same this year. I think resolutions set you up for failure, but goals are something you can continue to strive for! Woo 2012!!!

I love the stocking idea! I agree with you; I think a goal can be set at anytime. I picked May this year, and I think I acheived at least a few of my goals before the new year. I think by setting deadlines on goals and finding the motivation is the key to success not a certain day! 🙂

I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just o I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just okay.” Like, fine in a pinch… but never something I craved. 👀

But then this little picnic happened—just me, my girl, and a sweet treat we both loved enough to fight over the last bite. 😅

We’ve been trying to be more mindful with food choices lately (especially with summer travel coming up), and I grabbed these So Delicious treats at Kroger kind of on a whim. The new packaging caught my eye, but it was the taste that totally surprised us. Creamy. Indulgent. No weird aftertaste. And no, we’re not fully dairy-free—and we still loved them.

It’s one of those little swaps that doesn’t feel like giving anything up.

And that? That’s a win for both of us. ✨@So_Delicious

🚨 Homeschool decision!! If you have been aroun 🚨 Homeschool decision!!

If you have been around here since Christmas time, then you know we pulled Emma Kate out of her private school after the first semester and put her in a hybrid homeschool for the spring. The main reason being we wanted more absences than the school allowed.

What is a hybrid? In our case, she went to a school all day 3 days a week, and we taught her at home two days a week.

It seemed like the best of both worlds, not having absences count since we were also her teachers, being able to stay home some, sleep in, and travel.

Well, it wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies. For one, the school we sent her to ended up not being what we thought. We were told being absent wouldn’t be a problem, but it became clear very early on her teacher was not a fan and she was not kind or accommodating to Emma Kate. There’s a lot of other reasons we didn’t blown the school I won’t go into. (If you are local and considering hybrid feel free to dm me and I will share my concerns and grievances.)

Teaching your kid is hard. There were lots of tears and frustrations, and she got bored since Bobby and I also work from home/I’m not a stay at hoke mom. We couldn’t just sit with her all day and teach her with our crazy long hours owning two businesses.

It was tough to keep a schedule and while getting to travel a lot was great, she didn’t thrive on not having a routine and struggled with the randomness of everything.

She is also a very social only child who missed her friends and also wants to play sports for her school.

In the end while there were a lot of pros to hybrid homeschool, the cons outweighed them for us so we are returning to her old school in the fall.

Am I glad we did it? Yes! I always would have wondered otherwise and now we know. We will still be pulling her out of school some to travel in the fall, just not as much.

If you have any questions feel free to drop them in the comments below and I will be happy to answer the best I can! 🩷

Tucked away just outside of Gatlinburg, Alpine Hav Tucked away just outside of Gatlinburg, Alpine Haven was everything we wanted in a mountain getaway—and then some. ⛰️

This luxury cabin has 4 spacious bedrooms (including one with built-in bunks that my daughter loved) and 4 full bathrooms, making it perfect for a family trip or group vacation.

We spent our days soaking in the hot tub with mountain views, lounging on the deck by the fireplace with coffee in hand, and playing pool in the game room.

The cabin even has its own private sauna and steam room—YES, really! It felt like a full-on spa experience right in the woods. ✨

And one of the best surprises? It has its own playground, which was a total hit with with daughter and such a bonus for keeping little ones entertained.

We were just minutes from downtown Gatlinburg, but honestly, we barely wanted to leave. If you’re planning a Smoky Mountains trip, Alpine Haven is that perfect mix of cozy, modern, and wow-worthy. 💫
