The benefits of exercising are, of course, extremely well-documented. Not only does it help with physical conditioning, but it can do wonders for a person’s mental well-being. It’s one of those things that, once a person makes it part of their routine, sticks with them for the rest of their lives.
But, many people don’t reach the point where it’s a part of their routine. While there are sometimes valid reasons why this is the case, there are also instances when the excuses just don’t hold up. They Think They Have No Time
We’re busier than ever, and it makes sense that people feel that they don’t have enough time to exercise. After all, it’s not just the 45 – 60 minutes of exercise itself that’s time-consuming, but everything around that period, such as traveling to the gym, post-workout showers, and so forth.
It’s worth keeping in mind, however, that you might have more time in a day than you might think. While your work might be non-negotiable, the amount of time you spend looking at your device is within your control. Cut down on social media scrolling, and you might just have enough time for a workout — and you’ll likely feel much better, too.
They Think It’s Expensive
Many people avoid signing up for a gym membership because they believe that it’ll be expensive. And in some cases, they’re correct — gym memberships can be expensive. With that said, there are also gym memberships that are much easier on the wallet. As gyms like Fitness 19 demonstrate, quality gyms can also be highly affordable. In any case, you can think of exercising as an investment — there might be a monthly fee, but it’ll improve your immune system and give you the energy you need to really enjoy life to the fullest, and you really can’t put a price on that.
They’re Intimidated
Many people imagine that working out in a gym is intimidating because everyone will be checking to see your form and if you’re working out correctly. In reality, that’s never the case. Ask anyone who works out in a gym, and they’ll all tell you that they’re too busy focusing on their workout to notice what other people are doing. If you really feel self-conscious about what you’re doing in the gym, then you can always work with a personal trainer, who will show you the correct way to lift/workout.
They Think It’s Boring
Finally, many people avoid gyms because they think that they’re boring. You can see their point — it’s not all that exciting to lift weights up and down. With that said, things do become a lot more enjoyable if you’re listening to your favorite songs or podcasts while you’re there. You can even call friends and family when you’re on the bike machine, so consider it an opportunity!
