Back in October I was lucky enough to get a great rate on a Disney cruise sailing out of a new port, Galveston Texas. This was great for us because it was a three hour shorter drive than driving to Port Canaveral, and I had a lot of people asking about the new cruise and port. Instead of doing a day by day report, I just decided to do some photos of the trip for you in 2-3 installments, with a few quick captions/explanations. If you have questions about Disney Cruise line cruises please contact me (or any other cruise line!)
We sailed on the Disney Magic, which is one of the classic (smaller and older) ships. I have sailed on her twice before, and while she doesn’t have the newness or technology of the new ships the Dream and the Fantasy, it is much less crowded and has a more intimate feeling.
Disney did a great job of sprucing up the port in Galveston by adding signs, etc. All in the waiting areas before you board the ship.
Mom, dad, and Bobby waiting to board
Lunch at Topsiders
Our oceanview stateroom with verandah
Going to dinner the first night
The first sea day we went to Palo (adults only) brunch
Formal night
On the tender boat going to Grand Cayman
We took a cab to Royal Palms
In the next installment I will have pictures from Coast Maya, Cozumel, and more of the ship!
*GIVEAWAY on the blog tomorrow. You won’t want to miss it *cough* Under Armour *cough*

I was just looking at Disney cruises! But wondering if a younger couple, without kids, would like it? I’m always a kid at heart, so I’m sure I’d enjoy it.
Thanks for sharing! Looking forward to seeing more photos of the ship, too.

YES! Hubby and I have no kids and have been on 5 Disney cruises and we are in our 20’s! There is a huge “night club district” onboard of adults only areas, adults only spa, pool, hot tubs, restaurant, you don’t “have” to even see kids haha. We love it so so much.

I’ve been on one cruise to Bermuda and had a great time! Thanks for adding the beautiful pics of the beach. I need that right now since it’s 25 degrees outside. 🙂

I have cruised. My parents and I did a cruise around the Baltic Sea when I was 20 and I loved it! My favorite port was St. Petersburg because I’ve been fascinated by Russian history and it was so cool to be there for two days.

Heather – your formal dress is beautiful, you look stunning and it’s so classic, I love it.
I love cruising, I’d love to someday take my son on a Disney Cruise. I think he’d love it. I am trying to convince my husband to go to Disney World ASAP, but he says our son is too young (16 months) wah wah!

Well, I just got off the Disney Fantasy on Saturday and had an amazing time! It had the exact same itinerary as you but leaving out of Port Canaveral. I got to fulfill the goal that got me into running. The Castaway Cay 5K! …and its all your fault Heather. LOL Just kidding but it was an incredible cruise. All the posters above who are thinking about it, go for it. There really is something for everyone on a Disney cruise.

I think my favorite port is Long Beach, followed by Miami. The last time I cruised out of Galveston we had a terribly long fog delay, and it made me nervous we’d be late arriving when we got back and miss flights 🙁
