runDisney Updates

February 2, 2013 | Disney, fitness, runDisney, running

A lot has been going on in the magical land of runDisney lately, and with all the excitement of me running Goofy’s challenge I feel like it’s appropriate to recap some of the current (and recent past) happenings that are spanning both coasts.

In Florida, Adriano Bastos won the 20th anniversary Disney marathon for the eighth time. Looks like he is going to have to get yet another Mickey head tattoo. Rumor has it he wants to win ten! This was a hard fought victory for Bastos, running neck and neck with fellow training partner Fredison Costa until he surged ahead in the last half mile to claim the victory.

The following weekend in Disneyland, runners were flying through the parks for the second annual Tinkerbell half marathon. Over 21,000 runners joined in the fun, while Angela Escay set a course record for the event running a 1:24:10.

Ali Vincent of Biggest Loser fame, and Sean Astin (Rudy, Lord of the Rings) were also on hand to celebrate during this women’s health-focused weekend.

In the midst of these two races, sign ups began for the Disneyland half marathon and it’s newest component, the Dumbo Double Dare.

Twenty six hours after opening general public registration, the Disneyland half marathon, 10k, and Dumbo Double Dare were completely sold out. Over 25,000 runners will take part in the race weekend, with 5,000 of them taking on the new Dumbo Double dare (running the 10k and half marathon in one weekend). Since this record setting sell out, the Family Fun Run 5k has also closed registration, and the weekend is completely full. I am very excited to take part in Dumbo’s Challenge this year. I love inaugural events!

*A very limited number of spots remain open for the 10k and half marathon through charities, check out rundisney.com for details.

Also, a few dates were recently announced. Registration for the Tower of Terror ten miler will open February 12, and registration for the Wine and Dine half marathon opens on March 12th. Get ready, they may sell out very quickly!

QOTD: Were you surprised at how fast Disneyland sold out? What are your thoughts on the idea of the Dumbo Double Dare?

It is surprising that they are selling out so fast. But it’s great because it just means more people getting active! I could see me doing the Dumbo Dare more than Goofy’s Challenge. I just can’t imagine running a marathon, though I said that about 5K’s and 1/2’s not too very long ago!

As soon as I saw an hour and a half line for Dumbo registration at the first day of marathon expo I knew this race was going to be a FAST sell out. Within minutes? I didn’t really expect that, because I thought they’d only have a limited amount available for purchase at the expo

Disney races always sound like so much fun, and I wish I lived closer to either place so I could run them all (especially the princess half!!). Maybe one day I’ll get the chance to run one.

🏖️ I’m so thankful my parents took us on tr 🏖️ I’m so thankful my parents took us on trips growing up. When I was young, we didn’t have a lot of money, but they made every weekend getaway or camping trip special, and I have so many great memories.

We may not have gotten to travel often until I was a teenager, but we still had a blast, and they even took us to a @spectrumresorts property! (Ad)

As an adult, I am so grateful to be able to return the favor. To see them laugh and play with my daughter like they did with me. It’s one of those special full circle moments, those core memories that will stay with me forever. 🥹

Staying at @turquoiseplaceofficial makes things so easy, too. The condos are huge and we easily all fit without being on top of each other. There’s plenty to do with pools, a waterslide, lazy river, the beach, movie nights, kids activities, food, and more. ✨

It truly is the perfect place for a multigenerational vacation. So if you are looking for a great place to go with your parents, grandkids, aunts, uncles, or cousins, this is it. 💖

And, you can save 10% on your stay by using my code LOOKGLASS in the promo box when you are booking, here or at @thebeachclubresortandspa! 🏖️

Have you taken a multigenerational vacation? Where did you go?

We take her on these trips and cruises hoping she’ll soak in the adventure, the beauty, and maybe even the food from places different from where we live… but to her, nothing beats a corn dog and mac & cheese. 🧀

And honestly, that’s the best reminder for us, that joy doesn’t have to be fancy, it just has to be yours. 🛳✨

YES I was dancing, eating mac and cheese from the YES I was dancing, eating mac and cheese from the kids menu, and singing “Let it Go” with a butter knife while wearing Mickey ears on our Disney cruise. 🚢

When I was 12, I was worried a lot… worried about failing, scared of what people would think of me, and of not fitting in or being “cool”.
I turned 40 this year and have been spending time trying to figure out exactly who I really am with all expectations stripped away. I don’t love the term “finding yourself”, but here I feel like it fits. ✨

Maybe finding yourself means going back to being 12.… and being myself without being scared. Heather at 12 would never believe this version of me… but I think she’d be proud. 💛✨

Ever wondered what extra magic you can add for a b Ever wondered what extra magic you can add for a birthday onboard a @disneycruiseline ship? 🚢

Emma Kate turned 11 last month during our sailing and we did so many birthday things! She got a ton of “happy birthday’s” from crew and guests to make it extra special. ✨

👉🏻For a link to the birthday ears she wore (they have lots of colors and variations!) comment “EARS” and I will send it to you!

This is 11. ✨🎉 Not sure how this happened, b This is 11. ✨🎉

Not sure how this happened, but time snuck up on me and now I have an 11 year old. 🥹
We couldn’t think of a more fun place to celebrate that on Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island in the Bahamas.

She started the day with presents, then hours and hours in the sun on the island, followed by cake and singing at dinner, the tween club, and fireworks at sea! (They were for pirate night but we said they were birthday fireworks!)

Happy birthday to the most fierce, kind, competitive, loyal, funny, and beautiful little girl I know. 🩷 Never change who you are and stop growing up so fast! So. Blessed to have the best title there is, Emma Kate’s mom. 💖
