With everything that has happened in the past couple of weeks, many of us are left wondering what we can do. Fears, and the belief that we are insignificant to make a difference, often hinder what God has put us here on Earth to do. I was reminded here lately that God tells us to GO more than he tells us to STOP.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19
If you are anything like me, you often second guess what God has called you to do with thoughts like: I am just your average person, can’t carry a tune in a bucket, fumble on my words, have a hard time remembering scripture and where it’s located in the Bible, etc. So, I often think I’ve failed God; however, if you pay attention to the details in the bible, God usually picks the most unlikely person to fulfill his work here on Earth. Joseph, Ruth, David, and Jonah are just a few that come to mind. I think we believe that we have to be like Billy Graham or Mother Teresa to make a difference in the world; but that is far from the truth. God wants us to use our passions to spread his Word. One of my passions (notice I didn’t say talents) is running. I am not a great runner; however, I do love it and have used the opportunity of being at a race to be a light for God. God asks that we love and serve others. Running has allowed me the opportunity to do both and for that I am thankful. Encouraging runners along the course, stopping to help a fellow runner, and handing out water are all meaningful ways to be servants of God.
So the next time you are feeling discouraged, GO and run. Use what God has allowed you to do to serve others. A smile or words of encouragement are meaningful ways to be a light for God and as runners, we do this! No act of kindness or love is too insignificant to God!
We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing.
