Neverland 5k 2014

February 12, 2014 | blogging, Disney, fitness, Race Recaps, runDisney, running, Running Skirts

neverland 5k

My mom and I ran the Neverland 5k during the runDisney Tinkerbell half marathon weekend. I had never run a 5k at Disneyland before, so I was excited to experience one.

IMG_0170

Again, I LOVE the proximity of staying on property. We got to sleep a lot later than we do for the east coast events, and simply walked from our room to Disneyland park for the start of the race. I have never started a Disney race inside of a park that I can think of, so it was a really fun experience to walk down Main Street with all of the other runners.

IMG_0171

IMG_0177

They had everyone lined up around the circle in front of the castle, and there was some confusion as to where we needed to go. We finally overheard a worker telling some people the order in which the “corrals” were going to go so we were then able to line up accordingly. They were going to have different waves, but nothing was marked that I could see.

IMG_0180

We waited around a good bit, the announcers came out, and then it was finally time to begin!

IMG_0195

After standing around so long it took me awhile to get warmed up. The good thing was the waves of people were not huge so I didn’t feel too crowded except for a couple of times around sharp turns.

We started off running towards the Matterhorn, and made our way through backstage and “on stage” portions of the Disneyland park.

IMG_0198

IMG_0200

We had passed up a few characters with long lines, and I think this allowed us to get further ahead to ones that didn’t have as long of lines.

IMG_0203

When we ran towards New Orleans Square, we saw the lost boys out on the water in canoes, it was a really cute touch.

IMG_0205

IMG_0206

We walked through the water stop, and took another couple of walk breaks. The air was SO dry we were both having a hard time breathing which made me nervous for the half.

Hooray mile 2!

IMG_0207

We went across to California Adventure Park, which is where the race ends. Only a mile to go! We had not gone to the theme parks yet, so the race was actually moms first glimpse of them!

My favorite part

IMG_0215

IMG_0216

We ran through the Pier, and I knew we were getting close.

IMG_0220

We could actually SEE the finish line, but of course had to stop for this picture.

IMG_0221

We ran across the finish line together, we did it!

IMG_0222

IMG_0231

Several people asked if we were sisters, one even asked if we were twins! Not sure if it was because we were matching, but I really hope I don’t look like I’m in my 50’s! I know mom does look young though.

IMG_0233

We had a lot of fun running this race, I love that the parks are so close together that you get to run through both. I would definitely run this race again!

QOTD: Do you look like anyone in your family?

Disclosure: I was given a free hotel room, park tickets, some meals, and my half marathon race registration from runDisney. I paid for my own entry into the 5k, but regardless, all opinions are always my own.

I love that the race started from within the park. And no buses to get to the start line? That’s a plus!

You definitely don’t look like you’re in your fifties! Your mom just looks really young – good genes for you!

How fun!! Love y’alls outfits, too. I agree that the California air was reaaaally dry that weekend. It was rough on my nose the entire time I was there. This 5K looks so fun – that is neat that it actually started in the parks!!

Yes i was afraid I was going to get a nosebleed!

I actually got one almost every day we were there…ended up having to get some nose spray to keep it from happening! I guess I’m just too used to the Houston humidity lol.

I love how this goes through both parks. I would love to do a 5 or 10k at DL so I can run through both parks.

My mom and I also get the sisters comment.

I loved this race!! I, too, could not believe how dry it was! It made me really worried about the 10k and the 1/2 but I didn’t have any issues with those races!! 🙂

    • Heather says

      February 12, 2014 at 3:53 pm

I didn’t do the 10k, but did struggle a little in the half with a dry throat and feeling thirsty the whole time, but it wasn’t as bad as I anticipated

The course for the 5K looks like one of the best out of all the Run Disney 5Ks. Would you agree? The close up pic of you and your mom is adorable! I also look a lot like my mom and my sister ( although I don’t see it). We often have people ask us if we are twins too!

I’m not suggesting you go into debt to go on vac I’m not suggesting you go into debt to go on vacation. But I am suggesting you remember that time is something you can’t get back, and memories are something that will stay with you longer than things. 🚢

As we enter the holiday season, maybe it’s time to consider that long overdue vacation instead of quite so many things under the tree? Maybe a few less items for some time away to rest and recharge with loved ones?

@disneycruiseline is great for just that because they truly have something for everyone, from babies, kids, to adults. The cruise we just went on included beach time, pool time, an obstacle course, lots of eating, basketball, foosball, ping-pong, movie, watching, scavenger hunt finding, pirates (the nice kind!), ice cream, and so much more. ✨🫶🏻

Always happy to answer questions about the most magical cruise line around!

🚢 A vacation should actually feel like a vacati 🚢 A vacation should actually feel like a vacation right? I hear too many people coming home from vacations with their kids that say they are exhausted and now need another vacation from their vacation.

This is why I love @disneycruiseline. 💖

They have kids clubs included in the price of your cruise fare* that are open for a lot of the day and late into the night. This allows for adults only time at the adults only pool, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs. Not to mention, the kids absolutely have a blast. Mine never wanted to leave! 🫶🏻

it’s a win-win situation in my book. They get to go have some fun with other kids, and I get to relax and recharge on my vacation, and then we can also spend quality family time together as well! ✨

Send this to someone you are trying to convince to go on a DCL cruise with you! 😏

*included in cruise fare for kids clubs, not the nursery which is an extra charge.

We absolutely love Orange Beach, it’s one of our We absolutely love Orange Beach, it’s one of our favorite places to visit and feels like home. 🫶🏻

There are so many great businesses with employees that make you feel like family. Here are a few we visited over fall break. Be sure to save this for your next visit to the beach! Have you been to any of these places? 🍊

@coastalorangebeach: Not only a beautiful restaurant right on the gulf with amazing food, drinks, and servers, but also a really great store with amazing merch! We found some great stuff. If you go to the restaurant, ask for J-Mac to be your server and make sure to get a bushwhacker with a peanut butter floater! 😋

@florabama_olerivergrill : Right on the bama/Florida line, this fun restaurant boasts beautiful sunsets, a fun cocktail menu (the key lime colada was amazing!) and you can even rent pontoon boats and jet skis from the marina, or take a dolphin cruise! 🐬

@theorangebeachstore : I’ve passed this store 100 times but this was my first time inside and now I’m mad that I have been missing out all this time. They have a beautiful selection of really nice souvenirs from great brand names you already know and love. Great quality clothing and other things like blankets, cup, hats, and candles. I shopped forever!

@fbyachtclub_ : The Flora Bama Yacht club is also right on the state line on the bay side and has fun live music, a really nice menu including crab claws, hummus, chicken pasta, and key lime pie. Service was great and we loved the live music.

Thank y’all for having us! ✨

Holiday shopping days with my mini me are some of Holiday shopping days with my mini me are some of my favorite traditions. ✨☕
From grabbing coffee to wandering through the decorated stores, there’s just something magical about this season. We laughed, made memories, and even managed to cross a few names off our list. 🎄 (ad)

One of our favorite stops was Reeds at West Town Mall, where I spotted the new Victorinox Air Pro — a watch that’s Swiss-made with incredible craftsmanship, a stainless steel case, shock + water resistance, and even the ability to track 3 time zones at once. 🙌 It’s modern, timeless, and such a meaningful find for the men in my life.

The best part? Ending the day with full shopping bags, full hearts, and a gift I know will be worn and treasured for years. 💫 @victorinoxnorthamerica
