Do Some Good

April 23, 2011 | Uncategorized

Happy Easter Eve! Today Bobby and I were up way early for a Saturday. We met some folks from our Sunday school class to fix up an old lady in our church’s’ house. She is 87 and still very active and sweet. Her husband died a couple years ago from cancer and she has no children. She lives in a very old house (she has lived in it for 60 years!) and it was in desperate need of repair. Fun fact: they rode out Katrina in that house! Seriously, I have no idea how it didn’t get blown away!

Most of the wooden siding was rotten and we found termites, so all the siding had to come off, then we put up insulation, plywood, and tyveck wrap until it can be sided.

Here is her little house

Some of the guys hard at work demolishing the siding, which the girls then carried to the street.

Bobby with a nail gun, very scary

Bobby with a power saw, equally as scary!

and just to show you I actually did go and participate, here I am after we got home.

Bobby really enjoys working on houses, and I just like to help people. Seeing that tiny house she has lived in all these 60 years makes me feel very blessed to have a nice home, and makes me want to help more people just like her! I encourage you to find a way to give back. We are all so lucky here in America…Google your local habitat for humanity chapter, or volunteer at a food bank, etc. I promise you will get a lot out of it. Helping others is such a great gift to give!

Happy Easter everyone! I hope you have a great day with family and friends, and remember why we celebrate Easter. I am so thankful Jesus died for me!

QOTD: Have you ever participated in a service project? What kind? what are your thoughts?

I loved this post! You are so sweet and I know that the older lady was feeling so blessed. This was a great post to do before Easter since Easter is all about how Jesus gave! Hope you have a great Easter!! 🙂

that is a wonderful project! 🙂

I’ve done a lot of service my favs were spending a summer as a health educator in west africa and working with common threads as a cooking instructor. We taught inner city kids how to cook healthy inexpensive meals at home! 🙂

so important to make time for service!

Very sweet thing for y’all to do! It feels great to help someone who needs it. I currently live in Japan very near the effected tsunami area so I have been on a volunteer clean-up trip to Hachinohe, along with our entire senior class (I teach at an American high school on Misawa Air Base in Misawa, Japan). It was so touching to see our seniors all working so hard to help a Japanese farmer dismantle his entire strawberry farm, that had been flooded by the tsunami. Whoever says that teenagers are lazy and self-absorbed has never met this group. They were amazing!

That’s awesome! Great project and I know that lady is probably so appreciative! :0) Jason worked with Habitat once as a project for school – they helped rebuild a home destroyed by Hurricane Rita. He said it was in pretty bad shape. I know it’s a good feeling when you give back! :0)

    You guys are awesome!

I did a lot of philanthropy in college. As incoming freshmen, we did a big community service project in West Philadelphia. We painted classrooms and stuff. Also, being in a sorority, we did various community service stuff too. When I worked at the Disney Store, we had the VoluntEARS program, where we went out and did various stuff too. I do kind of miss doing that kind of stuff, but I just don’t have any time these days…

Some days, the scoreboard doesn’t look the way we Some days, the scoreboard doesn’t look the way we want it to, but that doesn’t change how proud we are. ❤️

Yesterday we didn’t win the championship, but that didn’t stop us from remembering what really matters, that our daughter is an amazing human who deserves to be celebrated even on the tough days. 🍧

Parents, it’s SO easy to get wrapped up in the game. Let’s always remember that our kids’ worth isn’t measured by a trophy or a score. Celebrate them. Encourage them. Love them unconditionally. ✨

They are enough. Always. 💛

The Castaway Cay 5K was hands down one of our favorite memories from our @disneycruiseline cruise, just me and my girl, running along the most beautiful island with that Caribbean breeze and the bluest water cheering us on. It’s such a fun (and free!) way to experience Castaway Cay in a totally different way.

If you’re planning a cruise, this is your sign to do the 5K — even if you walk it! Grab water early, go first thing before it gets too hot, and don’t forget to stop for pictures because you won’t want to forget this one! 🏅

If you’re ready to book your own Disney cruise, I’d love for you to use my link in my bio and plan through Best Day Ever Vacation. It’s completely free to have the book for you and they have over 1000 5 star reviews! 🤍

🚨 Right now there’s an incredible deal: 20% off select voyage fares PLUS a $250 onboard credit 🙌
That onboard credit can go toward excursions, specialty dining, souvenirs, or spa time (yes please).

Let me know if you have questions about the 5K or cruising with kids, it truly was the best day ever! (Make sure you use my link in bio to get your free quote so they know that I sent you!!)
