A Trip to Desoto County, Mississippi

December 10, 2020 | Travel

Disclosure: This post was sponsored by Visit Desoto County, however, all opinions are my own.

Living in the Jackson, MS area, most people tend to only want to drive about three hours for a weekend getaway. For us, that typically means New Orleans or Memphis. But what if I told you there was somewhere even closer than that with plenty to keep you busy for a quick trip? Yes! We recently took a quick trip to Desoto county and had so much fun!

We started off our trip with lunch. It was about a 2.5 hour drive and we were hungry! We stopped at the newly opened Elfo’s Pizzeria. Their takeout option was open, but they were still putting the finishing touches on the dining room. The owners were super sweet and let us eat in there anyway. The pizza was amazing and so was the chocolate cheesecake! Highly recommended!

After rolling out of the pizza place (we were so full but in a good way!) We headed to Horn Lake’s Latimer Lakes Park to walk off our lunch. This park is really big and has walking trails, an ultimate frisbee course, playground, lake, and ball fields. The weather was nice so we walked almost three miles enjoying the scenery.

After our little hike, we decided to go check into our hotel at Drury Inn and Suites. It was located right off the interstate near all the things! So convenient. Plus, the rooms are huge!

After freshening up, we headed out to Tanger Outlet Mall (very close by) to do some shopping! They have tons and tons of stores, I could have stayed all day. I saw some great sales going on, too! Unfortunately we could only stay a little while but did pick up a couple of things.

Next we had dinner at Memphis BBQ Co. It smelled amazing from the second we arrived, and tasted amazing as well! If you aren’t ready to dine indoors, they have a pick up option as well, and it’s outside so you don’t even have to go in to get it! The menu is large and we weren’t even sure what to choose!

Even though we were full from dinner, we wanted something sweet so we headed over to a new area called Silo Square. It has shopping and food as well as houses being built. It’s adorable and I can’t wait to see what it looks like when it’s completed.

We visited City Hall Cheesecake and oh my goodness it was divine! They have full sized cheesecakes as well as little cupcakes which is what we decided to try out. Bobby had s’mores and I had cookies and cream. So, so good!

After our fun day we slept well in our nice room at the hotel, and then had to leave the next day. There were so many other things we could have done and restaurants we could have tried, we will just have to make another trip!

If you are looking for a weekend getaway, please consider Desoto county. We felt very safe in all of the locations we visited. Everyone is taking precautions and distancing properly so that people can still enjoy being out and about. You can definitely #VisitMSResponsibly right now though. Please let me know if you have any questions about any of the locations we visited!

This past summer, we learned how real dog anxiety This past summer, we learned how real dog anxiety can be. (Ad)

After a really stressful week with a new sitter (who wasn’t a great fit and left her alone far too long), Dolly started coping the only way she knew how — nonstop licking. What started as “normal anxious behavior” turned into a raw wound that required a vet visit, meds, and constant care.

We changed a few things in her routine, and we also added NaturVet Daily Emotional Support Calming Supplements into her daily support. The difference has been incredible. She’s settled, sleeping better, no more licking, and truly back to her happy, goofy self.

I’m sharing this for anyone whose dog struggles with stress, separation, or big changes. You’re not overreacting. Their anxiety is real — and it deserves real support. 🤍

You can find @naturvet Daily Emotional Support Calming Supplements at select Walmart stores, and they’ve been such a gentle, helpful part of Dolly’s healing.

I was so tired of dragging around heavy, clunky ba I was so tired of dragging around heavy, clunky bags on my trips! ✈️

So I invested in the Carry-On from @hulkenbag! It’s lightweight, sleek, and glides effortlessly wherever I go. It has 4 pockets and opens from the top, so it’s very easy to grab things in flight! I’ve got room for everything I need and can fit all my devices, snacks, books, and a neck pillow seamlessly inside.

I always pair my Carry-On with the Schlep Stack because who has time to dig through a messy bag? 👜✨

Trust me, Hulken is a total game-changer!

Let’s kick off 2026 with a little bit of wellness, and a whole lot of humor. I just wanted the restaurant experience at home, ok? 😝

The beaches of Alabama are the kind of place where the days feel slow, the kids are happy, and you don’t feel like you need a vacation after your vacation.

Alabama beaches in the spring just make sense.
