Finally! I’m getting around to recapping our December Disney trip (and I don’t actually think I recapped our October trip….anyway–er–moving on), December! Yes, let’s hop back there and talk about all the fun we had with my parents in our happy place.
We drove to Lake city (about 2.5 hours away) and spent the night. We normally stop sooner, around Tallahassee, but decided to go a little further so we had less to drive the next day and I’m SO glad we did! It gave us more time at Disney without paying the high Disney hotel price on the travel day. My parents have friends in the Villages, so they stayed there and met us at the Polynesian the afternoon we arrived.
We checked in (it was almost noon) and then headed to the pool since our room wasn’t ready. Thankfully this isn’t my first rodeo, so I had already packed a pool bag with our suits, sunscreen, extra clothes, etc. just for this occasion. Since only the Disney Vacation Club part of the hotel is open, the pool was near empty and it was glorious!
Well, that’s the quiet pool we passed on our way to the Volcano pool. It was just pretty so I took a picture. Our building ended up being the one in the right of this photo and we faced the pool.
We had one very happy little Moana. We ordered lunch from the mobile app, and settled in. My parents arrived, and the fun began! I’m so glad we chose to arrive early and swim because it was going to get COLD in the next couple days and we would not be able to swim.
Girlfriend loves a good waterslide. Now to the real awesomness that is my pulled pork nachos. Love.
My dad and I took a walk over to the main building and they are working on the Monorail platform so you can’t use the main entrance. There was no “life” to the lobby like before and it was kind of sad.
I also got a dole whip float because again, it was going to be too cold later!
Bobby is such a good dad. The water was way too cold for me!
After a couple of hours, our rooms were ready. We had connected rooms on the 3rd floor. It was so nice to keep the middle door open and go back and forth.
Ek loved sleeping on the pull out trundle under the TV.
I have realized I love Poly DVC rooms over regular rooms because first of all, you get a kitchenette, and second, they have two bathrooms. (One toiler, but two showers and sinks.)
View off the balcony. The quiet pool is on the other side of the trees.
And if you looked to the right real close we had a “castle view.” Heh.
We all showered and got ready for dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe. I booked it specifically so we could see the gorgeous lobby and Christmas tree. It’s so amazing!
We arrived early so we could wander around and explore.
We sat by the fire, and headed outside by the water.
It was finally time to eat! We haven’t been to this restaurant in years. It used to be a staple, but then they took all the antics away which were our favorite part. It’s also a LOT of food so come hungry!
My mom’s birthday is on Christmas, so we spent the whole trip celebrating her!
We basically had to be rolled out of the restaurant. I learned a fun fact however. The leftover food gets turned into fuel for the Disney buses, it doesn’t go to waste!
That’s enough for today, in the next post we have more pool fun and a trip to Disney Springs!
