5 Reasons Why It’s Never Too Late to Begin to Exercise

September 8, 2021 | fitness

We will all get old. (Yikes, I know!) That is just a fact of life. Unfortunately, many things can ail us as we age, such as musculoskeletal injuries, coronary problems from poor diet, and breathing or heart issues stemming from a lifetime of abuse. Therefore, you should exercise often. Even if you suffer from chronic pain or injuries, there are still light exercises you can benefit from such as aquatic therapy and Pilates.

You may think that you are too old and it’s too late to exercise, but many studies have shown that it is never too late to begin a routine! While exercising when you are young is the best advice, you can still benefit from specific activities no matter your age. Not only is exercise shown to be highly beneficial as we get older, but it can also not help reduce the effects of severe age-related illnesses. Here’s what light exercise can do:

1.) Combat the Effects of Aging

As you age, your body begins to deteriorate, and the rate at which this happens is different for everybody. However, people who live an active and healthy lifestyle are less prone to some of these common effects that aging can have on your body. This includes debilitating back injuries that might require a chiropractor and mental issues such as loneliness and depression. Useful info since in the United States alone, a quarter of those aged 65 and older suffer from loneliness.

2.) Keep Your Heart Healthy

One of the best-known benefits of exercising is its effect on your cardiovascular system and the heart itself. A lifetime of eating, stores many fats and cholesterol, which over time will contribute to a dangerous accumulation of plaque in the arteries. Plaque accumulation causes high blood pressure, which leads to heart attack, stroke, and cardiac arrest. Running in place and jumping jacks are some of the best cardio exercises you can easily do every day, from the comfort of your living room.

3.) Promote a Sociable Atmosphere

Of course, you don’t have to exercise alone. Many people find it beneficial to exercise with others. It helps you work harder than you usually would because of the competitive nature of some activities. In addition, you can socialize while you exercise, which will help with feelings of loneliness and isolation. All while giving you an activity you can look forward to while seeing your friends.

And if you or a friend ever worries about safety while out walking or attending a group class, lightweight GPS pendants can offer reassurance without getting in the way. Devices designed for seniors provide 24/7 monitoring and two-way voice so help can be summoned quickly — a true medical alert on the go for active days away from home. Many are water-resistant and include optional fall detection, so you can join aquatic therapy or gardening sessions with less worry. That extra layer of protection often makes it easier to stick to group routines and social invitations, letting you focus on the benefits of exercising together.

4.) Help Reduce Dementia-Related Issues

Exercising doesn’t just relate to strenuous and vigorous activity. Recent studies into issues such as Alzheimer’s have found that mild exercise can help. For example, activities such as gardening, indoor games like bowling, dancing to music you grew up with, and even simple afternoon walks can help delay or reduce the effects of certain dementia-related illnesses and memory loss.

5.) Recover Lost Respiratory Function

Aerobic and cardiovascular workouts are excellent for promoting a healthy respiratory system. Unfortunately, as you age, your respiratory system may not operate at optimal capacity. This could be due to age-related illnesses such as pneumonia or the current Coronavirus. It could also be caused by a lifetime of smoking. However, it’s never too late to begin exercises for your respiratory system, and some of the effects can be reversed with any activity that makes your heart beat faster and harder. It should be noted, however, that strenuous exercises should not be undertaken while you still smoke, and that you should speak with your doctor before starting a new regimen.

Lately I’ve been using personalized skincare through Mochi Health and it’s been so much easier having products targeted to what my skin actually needs instead of just guessing every time I break out.

I started noticing little signs during my normal day. Just occasional bloating, gas, and that slightly “off” feeling. So instead of ignoring it, I listened. I slowed down, moved more consistently, and added Align Probiotic to my routine.

It’s one capsule a day and the #1 doctor-recommended probiotic brand for over 15 years‡. I started taking Align to help relieve my occasional gas, bloating, and stomach discomfort* and now I feel more comfortable moving through my day. @alignprobiotic

And now… it finally will be. 🤍

We’re not leaving Tennessee, just making a local move that puts us closer to my daughter’s school, closer to our day-to-day life, and honestly closer to the version of life I’ve been hoping for since we moved here. (Aka not so much time in the car!)

Still Knoxville. New chapter. Lots of boxes. Please pray. 🏡📦

Between dogs, snacks that never make it to a plate, and whatever is happening in my entryway on a daily basis… I needed something that could actually keep up in one go. This one’s been doing the heavy lifting so I’m not doing 12 different cleanups for the same mess.

Life doesn’t happen in neat, single-surface moments. From pet hair to crumbs to tracked-in grass, real homes have layered messes. The BISSELL PowerClean DualBrush™ is designed to handle it all in one pass without switching tools or going over the same spot twice.

Promotion: List Price $359.99, on sale for $259.99 ($100 off) from 4/5–5/30. Limited time only, don’t miss it. Link in bio to shop while the deal lasts 👀
