Family Fun in Tuscaloosa: Your Ultimate Getaway Beyond Game Day

July 17, 2025 | Travel

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Visit Tuscaloosa. However, all opinions are my own.

Think Tuscaloosa is just for game days? Think again! Nestled along the Black Warrior River, this vibrant Alabama city has so much more to offer than football. With delicious dining, outdoor adventures, and hands-on activities for kids, Tuscaloosa makes the perfect family getaway. Whether you’re planning a weekend escape or a longer stay, here’s how to make the most of your trip.

Start with a Delicious Breakfast

Kick off your day at Big Bad Breakfast, a local favorite known for its hearty Southern fare and quirky charm. Feast on plates piled high with fluffy pancakes, crispy bacon, buttery biscuits, and creative dishes like breakfast skillets packed with veggies and cheese. The coffee is strong, the service is friendly, and the vibe is perfect for families looking to fuel up before a big day.

Craving something sweet? Pop into Babes Donuts, where the colorful donut case is almost too pretty to eat. Choose from classics like chocolate glaze and sprinkles, or go bold with unique flavors like maple bacon or fruity cereal-topped donuts. The kids will love picking out their own treat (and you’ll love grabbing an extra coffee for the road).

There is so much to do in Tuscaloosa, Alabama!

Explore the Riverwalk and Local Markets

Once you’re fueled up, head to the Tuscaloosa Riverwalk. This scenic paved trail hugs the Black Warrior River, offering gorgeous views and peaceful places to stop and take it all in. Bring bikes, scooters, or just enjoy a leisurely stroll while soaking up the natural beauty.

On weekends, visit the Tuscaloosa Farmers Market at the Tuscaloosa River Market pavilion. Here, local farmers and artisans sell everything from fresh produce and homemade jams to baked goods and hand-crafted gifts. It’s a wonderful way to taste the local flavor and support small businesses.

Nearby, the Kentuck Art Market is a hidden gem for art lovers. Explore booths filled with pottery, jewelry, paintings, and other handmade works by regional artists. It’s the perfect spot to pick up a unique souvenir or just enjoy browsing beautiful creations.

Hands-On Adventures for the Kids

If you’re traveling with curious little ones, Tuscaloosa offers plenty of places for them to explore and create. Head to the Druid City Makerspace inside Tuscaloosa Made, where kids can engage in hands-on projects like crafting, building, and experimenting. It’s a creative haven where imaginations can run wild.

Next, visit the Children’s Hands-On Museum, a Tuscaloosa staple for family fun. Kids can play pretend in the mini grocery store, explore science exhibits, dress up for imaginative play, or dive into rotating themed activities. It’s a place where learning feels like pure fun.

For a touch of history and natural wonders, stop at the Alabama Museum of Natural History. Marvel at towering dinosaur skeletons, fossil displays, and fascinating exhibits about Alabama’s geological past. It’s both educational and awe-inspiring for visitors of all ages.

Since turning forty, I’ve been all about simple changes that help me feel strong, healthy, and confident — inside and out.

Adding Organixx Collagen to my coffee each morning has been one of the easiest ways to support my skin, hair, and joints while juggling busy mom life. It blends right in and makes me feel like I’m doing something good for myself every single day.

Because for me, it’s not just about looking good — it’s about feeling my best, staying active, and showing up for the people and moments that matter most.
Radiance starts from within, and @organixxco helps make it part of my everyday routine.

I turned 40 today. 🎉 Hitting a milestone like t I turned 40 today. 🎉 Hitting a milestone like this has me reflecting—not just on what I’ve accomplished, but on who I’m becoming.

I’ve always been driven to achieve, to push, to prove. But lately, I’ve been learning to celebrate presence over performance, connection over perfection.

Today wasn’t about checking a box or hitting a goal—it was about pausing, feeling grateful, and eating a ridiculous amount of cake with people I love. And honestly? That feels like growth.

Here’s to 40: more aligned, more grounded, and still a little extra. 😉

Turning 40 tomorrow. 🎂 Big milestones always Turning 40 tomorrow. 🎂

Big milestones always make me pause and ask:
What am I proud of?
What needs to shift?
Am I becoming the woman I want to be?

💡 As an Enneagram 3, I’ve always been wired to achieve — and for a long time, that meant shaping myself into whatever version I thought people would like best.

There are tables where it’s clear I’m not welcome — and that used to wreck me.
But at 40? I don’t do cliques. I don’t do shrinking or contorting to be accepted. 👀

I’ll always be kind. I’ll always be respectful. But I’m done dragging a chair to tables that were never built for me.

I’m moving over. Making space.
Creating my own table.
