Arriving at The Healthy Living Summit

August 19, 2011 | Uncategorized

&nbsp

Hi everyone! I am here! Healthy Living Summit has officially begun and I am exhausted already! When I landed in Philly I met up with Caitlin, Brittney, Kelly, Stephanie, Erin and Allison and we all headed to the hotel!

(My group picture came out BLURRY so I will have to steal one from someone else later. SO bummed! A button got hit while it was in my bag. Sad times.)

We checked into our rooms at the Marriott

and headed out for lunch. We spread the word and a huge group ended up gathering!

So…I almost got beat up on the street, not even kidding. Yall, in the south we are nice to everyone and say hi to everyone. We were waiting to cross a street (all 14 of us, we had split into 2 groups) and this RUDE woman starts freaking out saying we needed to get out of the way and as she walked away I said in a cheerful tone “have a nice day!” (I am all about killing with kindness.) She stops and goes “WHO SAID THAT, WHO? COME ON! Ya, that’s what I thought!” Oh. My. Gosh. How awful! Totally hope I’m not offending anyone from here, but a lot of people wete rude to us.Cars honking at us when it took us a bit longer to cross the street because we were in a group…just not nice. Today did not really show me that this is the city of brotherly love! 🙁 maybe tomorrow? The shop owners at the place we ate lunch were really nice though.

We walked about a mile and found  a cute little place for lunch. We kind of scared the owners, when our group walked in, they looked like deer in headlights and were actually calling employees in to help cook/make out food!

We ended up eating outside next to the restaurant, the food was really good. I got a turkey club of some sorts. Holy yum. I was close to gnawing off my arm, so getting food was a good thing for me.

I think everyone had a good time!

Me, Kelly, Julie, and Kath, dining buds.

We went back to the hotel and checked in for the summit!

There was so much excitement in the air, I love it!

Holy swag! Our bags are so heavy I am going to have to check my bag on the way home! I felt like a little kid dumping it out on the bed to check it out!

That doesn’t sound like the Philly I know, but then again, maybe I’m used to it. Cars honking because pedestrians taking longer just sounds like normal city behavior to me.

Philly is a great city and not full of rude people. But every city unfortunately has homeless people and cars that honk their horns because generally people are just inpatient. Sorry to hear you have had such an unwelcoming experience in the city I love and call home!

I didn’t mean to offend, I just didn’t feel as welcomed as I thought I would be and didn’t feel very safe. Maybe we were just walking through a bad part? Its just frustrating to be excited to try somewhere new and not have a very welcome reception: (

Guess I’ll be the only one to say that I can’t stand Philly and I’m from PA!
Thus the reason I moved and got out of that state lol
I’ve never really experienced anything good in Philly and yet I’m sure there are some good people there but nothing about that city appeals to me at all or to PA for that matter 😉
Born, raised there, left as soon as I got out of high school never to go back (other than for 2 days 2 summers ago and for 3 days in Oct when my brother was in motorcycle accident)
I soooo want to go to HLS next year though!
cant wait to see all the swag!

Welcome to the northeast, hun! My best advice is to not talk to anyone or look at anyone. Act like you’re the only one around for miles and you’ll fit right in.

that makes me so sad, I am totally not used to it. I say hi to everyone!

Yeah, I don’t get why people do it. What’s the point in being rude? Where does it get you? Do they get enjoyment out of it?

Although, its strange. My parents live in Florida where everyone is super friendly and outgoing. One time, I was going for a run around their neighborhood and this like seven year old kid comes up to me and just starts holding a conversation with me. It shocked me because I’m used to everybody being so cold.

HILARIOUS! that would totally be me. I randomly talk to people in line at the store all the time, everyone does it!
