Ten Treadmill Miles

September 5, 2011 | Uncategorized

Greetings from the drenched South! Hope everyone is having a great labor day holiday! Catching up from the weekend?

September Goals

August: Month in Review

Game day and Lee

Saturday night, the tornado warnings were so non stop, we decided to sleep downstairs in the guest room (our master is upstairs) just to be safe. it was weird being in my house but sleeping in the guest room!

We survived the night, woke up and cleaned up and prepared for my parents to visit for the afternoon (more on that tomorrow.) We are still getting on and off rain and wind, hoping Lee pushes through and gets the heck on out of here soon!

So Saturday, we were supposed to run ten miles at the beach with our team in training group. Yeah….that didn’t happen! It was flooding and the wind was going crazy down there. Here is a news picture from the beach where we were supposed to run. HAHA!

(source)

We really wanted to get our miles in though, So Saturday morning Bobby and I headed to the gym to run on the treadmill. It was a little bit easier having Bobby on the treadmill with me….wait…that’s a lie. It was SO BORING! But, knowing Bobby was suffering in boredom right along with me made it not so bad.

In case you didn’t know, the treadmills will only let you run for 60 minutes at a time. Fact I would NOT have known considering I have never run more than 5-6 miles at once on a treadmill. (I don’t think…) Luckily, College game day was on, so I was able to put in my headphones and somewhat zone out and not think about running. I actually watched almost the entire first half of a game I could have cared less about…but, what else was I going to do?

I was actually pretty proud, I wanted to quit several times, my legs started to hurt, and it would be So easy to hit that little red “stop” button, but I Kept running, telling myself I am stronger than I think and to have confidence in my mental strength to get through it. It was finally OVER, and we celebrated by…uh…going to the grocery store….very exciting stuff here on RWS!

We relaxed the rest of the day, napped, watched football, and recovered. I wore my awesome new CWX tights, but more on those later. I was SO GLAD that we decided to stick it out and get the 10 miles out of the way. it feels so good to be done with a hard workout like that!

Bobby on the floor asleep Saturday afternoon. poor baby.

What is my point in telling you all about this? Well, basically just suck it up, get out there and do it! I could have easily blamed my lack of a long run on tropical storm Lee, but that would have been the sad excuse way out. I could have fooled a lot of people with that one, but not myself. I would have known deep down that I should have, could have run.

Hear me out…if you are injured or sick, stay home, stay in bed. But if the only reason you aren’t out being active is because you don’t feel like putting in the effort, you need to re-evaluate your goals. I mean, it’s just a little tropical storm, right? (I have used FAR lamer excuses for bailing on a workout, trust me!) Find your strength, find a mantra that works for you, and think of how AWESOME you will feel after you have accomplished your workout. So go, get out there and do it!

QOTD: What mantra do you use to motivate you through a tough workout? (or to get you out the door?)

Hey Heather. I have a running question that I thought I could post here. For those of us who work outside of the house, what are your feelings about getting runs in at night? Just suck it up and go in the dark? Given that I have to be at school by 7:10, running in the morning before work will still mean going in the dark soon. I get home early enough, as I’m a teacher, but I have a 10 1/2 month old and no jogging stroller, so it’s not really an option to go as soon as I get home.

Hi! When I taught I wold either go straight to the gym after school or run when I got home..but I don’t have kids! I would either look in Craigslist or sale papers for a jogger stroller so you can take little bit with you, or, of you do go at night, stick to well lit areas, wear reflective gear, or maybe find a running group at a local run ng store etc. Where there. Is a mm with the same problem? Good luck and let me know how it trns out! (That’s a crappy situation by the way!)

Yay…I can not even fathom pumping out 10 miles on a treadmill. I struggle getting 3 miles in on a treadmill! Outdoor running is so much mentally easier as you usually have to run X miles just to get back home!

Great job Heather! And good words of motivation!
Kristin – what about cross training on the days you can’t run outside due to childcare responsibilities with a workout video or free weights? 🙂

This was a great post and reminder. Last weekend I was stucked indoors due to Irene. I ended up doing a fitness class on demand which is certainly not my first choice because I need the energy from the group. But you know what I got it done. My favorite mantras are… Just do it, I’m strong enough! Waiting is a waste of time (while I do a double punch).

Such a great post! My mantras change, but the determination to suck it up, as you say, pushes me out the door on the blah days. Good for you sticking it out on the treadmill!! I hate the thing and have never run more than 3 miles on it. It is a beast I must conquer!

*Raises hand* I ran 9 on the treadmill Saturday. And like you, I watched football. Couple games I didn’t even really care about, but hey at least something was on. Ours only go for 60 minutes too so I usually just run for 5-6 miles, then go to the bathroom or get water, then get back on, resetting the treadmill, and run the rest.

It’s really amazing that you got out and ran even on a treadmill when there was a tropical storm going on. A lot of people would have used that as an excuse… so awesome that you pushed through!

You are way hardcore! I don’t think I could ever run 10 miles on a treadmill! That’s an accomplishment in itself! Way to go!! :0)

Hm. I think the farthest i’ve ever run on a treadmill is like .5 miles. not even kidding! I seriously HATE it!!!! Sadly, we have toooons of rain coming up… and I’m supposed to do a 17mile longrun this weekend. Let’s just say… it might not be happening outside, and it DEF won’t be happening on the treadmill. So… it might just not happen! I’ll just move it to next week if that’s the case 🙂

If you’re planning a trip to Florida’s Forgotten C If you’re planning a trip to Florida’s Forgotten Coast, save this one. 🌊 #RentingTheCoastPartner

We stayed at Singing Waves in Cape San Blas, and it was everything we wanted in a beach getaway: beautiful views, plenty of space, and the kind of place that makes you slow down and actually enjoy vacation.

What really stood out, though, was Renting the Coast. They’re a locally owned, family run company that manages vacation homes throughout Cape San Blas, Port St. Joe, Mexico Beach, and the surrounding Forgotten Coast communities.

Instead of managing hundreds of properties, they intentionally keep their inventory smaller so they can provide a more personal experience for both guests and homeowners. They’re known for being accessible, responsive, and focused on making sure every stay goes smoothly.

If Cape San Blas has been on your travel list, Singing Waves is absolutely worth checking out, and so is Renting the Coast’s collection of homes along Florida’s most underrated stretch of coastline. ☀️

I didn’t realize how much mental space hair removal was taking up until it just… wasn’t anymore. Between games, trips, and everything in between, having something I can do at home in minutes has been a total game changer. The app-guided treatments keep me consistent without having to think about it, and I’m already noticing smoother skin that actually lasts. And yes — the full-body, 10-minute-at-home situation still feels a little unreal.

If you’ve been on the fence, Prime Day (June 14–27) is definitely the moment to check it out with $120 off. #BraunSmartIPL

We didn’t set out looking for a “perfect” trip… we We didn’t set out looking for a “perfect” trip… we just needed a break from the noise.
What we found in Florida was something better than that. #ad

Our first stop in Auburndale was all about slowing down in the best way. We stayed in a cozy tiny home at Camp Margaritaville (you can also stay in an RV!). We enjoyed coffee on the porch, our daughter loved the pool and waterslide (there is even a splash zone for the littles!), and at night we slowed things down with s’mores instead of screens. It felt like nature + comfort + family time all finally in the same place. They have so many other amenities like mini golf, golf cart rentals, pickleball, a playground, cornhole, and more. Nearby, we explored the Florida Children’s Museum and had incredible food and drinks at Smith’s American Tavern and Black & Brew Coffee.

Then, we headed over to Fort Myers to experience a completely different side of the state. Shelling walks at sunrise, beach volleyball, pool cabanas, and the kind of Gulf sunsets that make everyone go quiet for a minute. Direct beach access at the Margaritaville Beach Resort Fort Myers made it effortless to go from “let’s check it out” to toes in the sand in minutes. There were several restaurants on property, so we never even got in our car. That plus live music, fire pits, the spa, and lawn games made it easy to want to stay put and relax.

What stood out most wasn’t just the scenery… it was how easy it was to actually be together here. No rushing or overplanning. That’s the true Floridays feeling for me. Laid-back, a little unexpected, and exactly what we didn’t know we needed. 🌴☀️
