A Day in the Life of…

February 1, 2011 | Uncategorized

Good morning! It’s stormy here. We are under a tornado watch, and it’s supposed to rain aalll day. I decided to hit the treadmill for a quick speed session, and so glad I did because it started raining and thundering/lightning. Yikes! I could have been outside!

Have you missed anything the past few days? My Friday Favorite’s post was about GU,  Saturday, Bobby and I ran a 5k race which ended up being a trail run, and we had no idea… Sunday I wrote a post about trail running, and realized I know nothing about it! Yesterday, my mom and I met up with Bobby at our new house, it’s almost complete!

So now that we are all caught up, I thought I would take some time to describe what a day looks like for me. As most of you know, I am currently working from home, so things sometimes look a little different than a normal house! Not to mention, I am currently living with my parents, so things are REALLY crazy right now!

7:15ish: Wake up, eat breakfast/chat with my mom/watch the Today show, laugh at the annoying people on the Today show.

8:00-12:00: Work on quotes for clients, call Disney, email clients, work on articles, etc. I usually eat lunch while I work. I also take short little breaks for twitter, to blog, etc. (sometimes longer than others…sshhh)

12:00-1:00 Go for a run or cross train, sometimes walk with my mom or mom and dad, dogs, etc. Whatever it is I just try to get out and move/sweat!

1:00-3:00 work on and off, depending on how much I have to do. I also take breaks during this time to do things like laundry, help my mom with dishes, shower, crosstitch…haha, just seeing if you are paying attention!

3:00-5:00 This is my computer playtime. I catch up on blogs, chat on twitter, etc. Sometimes I work here too, depending on what is going on, and who needs what. My phone/email is attached to my hip at all times.

5:00 Dinner time (we eat early, like old people…because I live with old people. JUST KIDDING mom and dad!)

6:00-9:00: Hodgepodge of hanging out with family, surfing blogs, vegging out.

9:00: Go upstairs and get ready for bed, read my Bible, and call Bobby to chat.

10:00-10:30ish: lights out, goodnight!

That is basically it…with some exceptions. I always joke my job is around the clock. I have had clients call in all hours of the day wanting things done, I had to even call Disney on Christmas eve for a client. I try to get quotes done within the same day I get them unless I get them in the evening or on a weekend. I TRY to not work on the weekends as much as possible but its not always possible. Also, sometimes I get up and run in the mornings instead of after lunch. Then there are days I will go run errands in the morning and so I just work later into the day. I love the flexibility, except when it cuts into family time. There are days I will work 9 hours, and days I will work 4-5. It really just depends! But, that is a rough estimate in case anyone was curious!

QOTD: Do you have an odd schedule like me? Do you enjoy having flexibility or a set schedule?

sorry for the picture-less post…

I wish I had a flexible schedule. It would be soooooooooo nice to get my weekday runs in during mid day so I didn’t have to run in the dark during winter. You are a lucky girl!

I think it’s so cool that you get to do travel quotes for Disney! 😀 How fun!

My schedule depends on the day but I definitely make time to run and catch up on all my blogs. 😉

I definitely don’t have quite as flexible of a schedule, since I have to be in my office at set times seeing clients. I love that you have time scheduled to catch up on blogs and other internet related activities. I definitely need to start doing that:)

I have to set times or I would literally look at blogs all day!

I have a super set schedule and it’s a little boring! I work school hours, which are nice, but there is no flexibility….and my vacation time is ALWAYS during the peak season. I won’t complain, though. There are LOTS of perks!

I here you, I taught 5th grade for 2 years. the breaks were nice, but it was so hard to vacation b/c it was always the most expensive times! But all the holidays were nice!

I would die to have a more flexible schedule like yours. I have such a short attention span. Having to work between the hours of 8-4 probably isn’t the most efficient for me. I need a lot of breaks!

thats how I am, I can work really well for short spurts but I get so bored doing mundane tasks all day. I am so blessed to have the job I do!

I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just o I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just okay.” Like, fine in a pinch… but never something I craved. 👀

But then this little picnic happened—just me, my girl, and a sweet treat we both loved enough to fight over the last bite. 😅

We’ve been trying to be more mindful with food choices lately (especially with summer travel coming up), and I grabbed these So Delicious treats at Kroger kind of on a whim. The new packaging caught my eye, but it was the taste that totally surprised us. Creamy. Indulgent. No weird aftertaste. And no, we’re not fully dairy-free—and we still loved them.

It’s one of those little swaps that doesn’t feel like giving anything up.

And that? That’s a win for both of us. ✨@So_Delicious

🚨 Homeschool decision!! If you have been aroun 🚨 Homeschool decision!!

If you have been around here since Christmas time, then you know we pulled Emma Kate out of her private school after the first semester and put her in a hybrid homeschool for the spring. The main reason being we wanted more absences than the school allowed.

What is a hybrid? In our case, she went to a school all day 3 days a week, and we taught her at home two days a week.

It seemed like the best of both worlds, not having absences count since we were also her teachers, being able to stay home some, sleep in, and travel.

Well, it wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies. For one, the school we sent her to ended up not being what we thought. We were told being absent wouldn’t be a problem, but it became clear very early on her teacher was not a fan and she was not kind or accommodating to Emma Kate. There’s a lot of other reasons we didn’t blown the school I won’t go into. (If you are local and considering hybrid feel free to dm me and I will share my concerns and grievances.)

Teaching your kid is hard. There were lots of tears and frustrations, and she got bored since Bobby and I also work from home/I’m not a stay at hoke mom. We couldn’t just sit with her all day and teach her with our crazy long hours owning two businesses.

It was tough to keep a schedule and while getting to travel a lot was great, she didn’t thrive on not having a routine and struggled with the randomness of everything.

She is also a very social only child who missed her friends and also wants to play sports for her school.

In the end while there were a lot of pros to hybrid homeschool, the cons outweighed them for us so we are returning to her old school in the fall.

Am I glad we did it? Yes! I always would have wondered otherwise and now we know. We will still be pulling her out of school some to travel in the fall, just not as much.

If you have any questions feel free to drop them in the comments below and I will be happy to answer the best I can! 🩷
