Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend

February 26, 2014 | Uncategorized

I am sure many of you have already seen the announcement, but just in case you haven’t, yesterday runDisney announced the Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend in Disneyland! The race weekend will take place November 14-16 2014, (the weekend after Wine and Dine in Walt Disney World) and will include Kids races, a 5k, and a half marathon as well as a pasta in the park party and health and fitness expo.

(Video used with permission from runDisney)

I think it’s expected that they would come up with a more “male oriented” race to balance out Tinkerbell and Princess half marathon weekends, and I know a lot of people are now hoping for a similar race on the east coast. It is also worth noting that the course for this race will be NEW and will not follow the same path as Disneyland half marathon weekend or the Tinkerbell half marathon.

Tom Wolber, senior vice president of Disney sports enterprises and Downtown Disney had this to say about the new event: “Our runDisney events continue to be hugely popular and by joining forces with the Avengers brand, we expect this race will appeal to an even broader range of runners in Southern California whom we hope will see this event as the perfect opportunity to unleash their inner Super Hero in a race to a personal triumph.”

This race WILL be eligible for the Coast to Coast race challenge, and registration for this race weekend begins March 25th at noon ET.  Be sure to check our runDisney.com for more information and to stay up to date! Also, you can follow runDisney on Twitter and Facebook. (You may also want to follow the #SmashTheHalf hashtag on Twitter!)

QOTD: What are your thoughts on this new race? Will you be running?

Sounds like a fun race but if I’m going to the expense of traveling across the US then I would rather run Tinkerbell! 😉 But I do think it’s great that runDisney has created a race for the guys!

Its nice to see runDisney reaching out to the guys, but personally, I’m not a huge fan of the race theme. Traveling to California from the East Coast in the middle of the school year isn’t realistic either, so we’ll be passing on this race.

I do think the timing right before Thanksgiving will make it tough for a lot of people to travel. 🙁

I totally want to run it just because I’m such a super hero fan!!! SO COOL!! I honestly feel like a kid in a candy store!

I’m so excited for another race at Disneyland! This west coaster cannot hide his excitement over the fact that we get another race. It costs too much for me to fly across to Florida very often. So, I’m really happy about what Disney does out here my home area. The Avengers theme makes me even happier. I loved all the Marvel movies (even the ones Disney does not own the rights to). Can’t wait to run in this event!

I think it’s great they are reaching out to those who love super heroes, not a huge fan myself, but I think it will go over well. If I’m going to Disneyland again, I want to do Tink, but I’m hoping for a Tink challenge of some sorts…

I love the idea of a more male oriented race. I am secretly hoping for a Star Wars themed race at DW because that is a racecation I can get my non-racing husband to join in on!

Never really cared for Disney races until now!! This is awesome! I love Marvel characters much more than princesses. Haha. Yes, I know, I’m the odd woman out here.

I think it’s great there is a more guy oriented race. Though I’m not a huge comic books fan. I went to Six Flags as a kid and super hero stuff was great there. I kind like Disney to stay Disney. But I understand they need to appeal to all people, therefore adding Star Wars Weekends, Avatar Land, and American Idol. But I miss it just being Disney.

🏖️ I’m so thankful my parents took us on tr 🏖️ I’m so thankful my parents took us on trips growing up. When I was young, we didn’t have a lot of money, but they made every weekend getaway or camping trip special, and I have so many great memories.

We may not have gotten to travel often until I was a teenager, but we still had a blast, and they even took us to a @spectrumresorts property! (Ad)

As an adult, I am so grateful to be able to return the favor. To see them laugh and play with my daughter like they did with me. It’s one of those special full circle moments, those core memories that will stay with me forever. 🥹

Staying at @turquoiseplaceofficial makes things so easy, too. The condos are huge and we easily all fit without being on top of each other. There’s plenty to do with pools, a waterslide, lazy river, the beach, movie nights, kids activities, food, and more. ✨

It truly is the perfect place for a multigenerational vacation. So if you are looking for a great place to go with your parents, grandkids, aunts, uncles, or cousins, this is it. 💖

And, you can save 10% on your stay by using my code LOOKGLASS in the promo box when you are booking, here or at @thebeachclubresortandspa! 🏖️

Have you taken a multigenerational vacation? Where did you go?

We take her on these trips and cruises hoping she’ll soak in the adventure, the beauty, and maybe even the food from places different from where we live… but to her, nothing beats a corn dog and mac & cheese. 🧀

And honestly, that’s the best reminder for us, that joy doesn’t have to be fancy, it just has to be yours. 🛳✨

YES I was dancing, eating mac and cheese from the YES I was dancing, eating mac and cheese from the kids menu, and singing “Let it Go” with a butter knife while wearing Mickey ears on our Disney cruise. 🚢

When I was 12, I was worried a lot… worried about failing, scared of what people would think of me, and of not fitting in or being “cool”.
I turned 40 this year and have been spending time trying to figure out exactly who I really am with all expectations stripped away. I don’t love the term “finding yourself”, but here I feel like it fits. ✨

Maybe finding yourself means going back to being 12.… and being myself without being scared. Heather at 12 would never believe this version of me… but I think she’d be proud. 💛✨

Emma Kate turned 11 last month during our sailing and we did so many birthday things! She got a ton of “happy birthday’s” from crew and guests to make it extra special. ✨

Not sure how this happened, but time snuck up on me and now I have an 11 year old. 🥹
We couldn’t think of a more fun place to celebrate that on Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island in the Bahamas.

She started the day with presents, then hours and hours in the sun on the island, followed by cake and singing at dinner, the tween club, and fireworks at sea! (They were for pirate night but we said they were birthday fireworks!)

Happy birthday to the most fierce, kind, competitive, loyal, funny, and beautiful little girl I know. 🩷 Never change who you are and stop growing up so fast! So. Blessed to have the best title there is, Emma Kate’s mom. 💖
