I’m bbaaaccckkk! Wow that trip flew by. Wasn’t I just packing? Did we just book it? So crazy to me! Anyway, I know I still have more to go on sharing photos from my Disney vacation, but I wanted to jump in and share a couple beach posts while it was still fresh in my mind. You know, since I’m getting older tomorrow and all.
We finally made it to Destin on Saturday after driving through more traffic than I think I have ever been in. I drove the whole way, and first we were stopped almost an hour in Mobile. After detouring in a bad part of town, getting lost, and almost running out of gas, we finally made it through the traffic. Just to find more the last hour into Destin…which should have taken 20 minutes. I was having some serious road rage issues by the time we got there and was ready to get out of the car and enjoy a pleasant vacation at the Sandestin resort. Well things didn’t exactly get off on the right foot. Check in was at 4:00, and we arrived a minute or so before 5:00 to be greeted with a line of people waiting at the front desk, seven people long!!! After waiting in traffic for hours I was not in the mood. We finally get to the front to discover our room was not ready. First impressions mean a LOT to me and so far this place that we heard awesome things about was not doing so hot. All I wanted to do was get to our room and relax! (Thankfully this was the only major thing that happened and we truly enjoyed our stay at Sandestin!)
About 15 minutes later we got a call our room was ready. We had to hunt down a luggage cart and finally made it up to our room. We usually stay at the complex next door right on the beach, but they only have two bedroom condos. Since it was just me and Bobby this year, we did need two bedrooms obviously, and since the conference was at Sandestin we decided to just stay on property a bit back from the beach in the Luau building. We were on the 12th floor, and when we got the cart up to the room, it wouldn’t fit through the door! So I am holding a ton of stuff in my hands and Bobby has the cart in the doorway trying to unload it so we can get our stuff inside. Let’s just say I was in a slightly foul mood by this point.
Our beautiful condo and panoramic views made up for it though, check it out.
We also had a view of the bay on the other side. Surrounded by water!
I spy the beach
The condo had two bathrooms, a full kitchen and washer and dryer
and a wrap around balcony
Lots of space! Luau is the newest condo at Sandestin, and it was built in 2006. There are two towers and they share a really nice pool, and a sunset observation deck which I will show you more of later.
By time we got settled in, I was starving. it was getting late and we knew most of the local places would be packed, so we opted for an old standby, the place where Bobby took me last year on my actual birthday, McAlisters. We ate, went to the grocery store to stock up on a few items, and then headed back to the condo for bedtime. We had a full day at the beach ahead of us!
QOTD: How do you handle driving in traffic? Do you have road rage or do you stay calm?
Kaitlyn @Keeping up with Kaitlyn says
I definitely get road rage/super annoyed when I am driving in traffic, but if someone else is driving and we are in traffic it doesn’t really bother me?! It’s/I’m weird, I know! haha

My husband gets horrible road rage and cusses about drivers and stuff! I really don’t, I’m pretty patient on the roads for the most part. But, I don’t usually drive in crazy traffic areas either.
Your room looks beautiful… stinks that it wasn’t ready when you checked in but it looks like it was definitely worth the wait. McAllister’s is so delicious too!

Oh man getting stuck in Mobile can be the worst – especially going through the tunnel and onto that forever long bridge. And then you always have the tourists driving to contend with driving along the coast into Destin and all of those cities. I am NOT a patient person and get super antsy. Maybe this is why we end up in Perdido Key b/c it’s less crowded LOL

SO pretty! Where I go in NJ, we only have house rentals, not condos or hotels so my beach trips are a bit different. We need to go w/ you guys one year b/c it looks so pretty!

I’m glad your bad start ended up being good in the long run! Looks like a gorgeous place! I love Destin…so pretty! And road rage??? Me??? Of course I don’t have road rage!!! Ok…I’m lying big time. I have major road rage when I am ready to be somewhere…I’m very impatient. Trying to work on that lol!

Ummm…I’m thinking I must not be a road rage type of person – maybe a looooonnng time ago before kids. But if you read your whole blog entry from my perspective – 5 kids and due tomorrow with number 6 — then you can maybe see it as – more time alone in the car with hubby, thankful that you’re not waiting in line, and waiting on a room, with your kids in tow whining after a long car trip. So I think once your perspective changes, maybe things like that will diminish in their ability to frustrate you and would only frustrate you if they were compounded with lots of other things, you know? So I think I would tend to have more road rage if I had lots of little people in the car who needed to go pottie and were hungry and one was carsick and I was uncomfortable from the heat combined with pregnancy and a long drive, or whatever – but any time that things were less bad off than that, maybe I wouldn’t get as easily riled up 🙂 Another thing is – you could be around my kids and such for a day and not be annoyed at them and think they were all happy and cute and fun, but then, if I’m around them all the time, then perhaps their noise and chatter and bickering would be completely enough to send me into a tiff (like bad traffic sending you into road rage) and then you would wonder why I was so easily frustrated by them when they didn’t seem that bad to you. It’s because it’s what I am in the middle of every day that makes it a bit more wearing on me I think, and probably it’s the same with road rage — you drive a lot and travel a lot, etc, so things that happen on the road build up and frustrate you more; whereas, I hardly leave the house and drive usually less than an hour (living in the UK right now and in Hawaii for the three years before that – both small places!) so I’m not on the road much, therefore I don’t think things pile up to frustrate me while driving as easily. Hahaha didn’t mean to go on and on – just wanted to make my point that whether or not people have road rage when driving probably has a lot to do with their perspective from a certain time and place in life and isn’t because they just have a short fuse. Hope that all made sense 🙂

I get you! I travel a lot and 2 hours of standstill traffic just did me in!
