Beach Trip 2012 Part 2

July 18, 2012 | family, Travel, Uncategorized

If you missed part one of our beach trip, be sure to read it first then come back for today’s post.

I left off after our first night at the beach. We woke up Sunday morning excited for an entire day of fun in the sun and the sand. We ate breakfast out on the patio, and then lathered up the sunscreen, gathered up all our stuff, and headed down to the beach.  We got there early so we got a good spot in the sand with our trusty tent.

The water was so clear and beautiful, no seaweed or jellyfish in site! I have gone on beach trips before where I refuse to get in the water because of this. Also, can’t beat the sugar white sands of Florida. Aaaahhh.

I’m saying “I’m smiling but this water is freezing!”

We did the obligatory beach things like go for a walk, read, play in the water, etc. Bobby even took a nap in the shade of our tent.

After awhile, I looked around and realized the people were closing in. we started the day with no one around, but by lunchtime the beach was getting quite crowded.

Luckily, I brought turkey sandwiches, plenty of drinks and snacks with me in our cooler, so we were well fed and didn’t have to leave the beach. A bit after lunch, we saw some guys playing volleyball at one of the nets so we decided to go scope it out. The group of guys turned out to be super nice and were in town for a bachelor weekend. We picked up on the next game and ended up having a blast and then soon some others joined in with us and we ended up playing for FOUR HOURS! We played until I literally was so tired I couldn’t even get my serve over the net and we all called it a day. We were exhausted. It was one of those exhaustions where you just want a shower and a comfy bed and some ibuprofen because you just KNOW every muscle in your body is going to be sore the next day. it. was. glorious.

Instead of going out to dinner we decided to make this our cook in the condo night, we were way to tired to care. Poor Bobby was really sunburned, but I faired well and was just slightly pink in a couple spots. We cooked tacos and sat in front of the TV watching endless episodes of Law and Order: SVU for the rest of the night. Aren’t we an exciting young couple? Oh ya! But me, I loved it. It was the perfect end to the perfect day.

QOTD: Do you always eat out on vacation or do you try to do some of your own cooking as well?

    That beach looks heavenly!

We fix meals depending on where we go and how long we’ll be there.

Looks like a great day! I wish we had the white super soft sand around here! I admit I don’t like to cook much on vacation. I’d rather go out.

The water looks incredible. That’s how it was for us in May. I think it was the prettiest I have ever seen it actually. We almost always eat in – especially at the beach. We get a condo, hit the grocery store, and cook in for all meals. Saves so much money and you don’t have to get dressed up 😉

Sounds like a lovely time! On vaca, I tend to eat out because it’s the only option, but prefer to do a bit of cooking and prep if we have a kitchen.

I seriously wish my beaches here in SE FL looked that good! I always have to go north or to the gulf side to enjoy white sand, clean water! lol
and my daughter & I usually eat one meal out on vacay and make the rest in our room 🙂

If I’m on vacation, there may not be a place to cook, but I do try to stay healthy some nights. Other nights I have the mindset of “I’m on vacation and I’ll eat what I want.”

Love the pictures! That water is amazing. And that tent is awesome.

We usually stay at a resort/hotel when we travel so there is no option to really cook.

Wow!! That water is beautiful! Much prettier than the beaches I’ve been too. My family eats out almost every night. We just munch around all day, then eat out for dinner. We always stay in one night and order pizza.

I’d love the beach a whole lot more if there wasn’t so much sand. And sharks.

I love eating out on vacation but only at local restaurants. I don’t want to eat somewhere I can eat at home.

#ad #BraunPartner Less time shaving. More time liv #ad #BraunPartner Less time shaving. More time living thanks to @BraunBeautyUS Smart IPL. ✨

I didn’t realize how much mental space hair removal was taking up until it just… wasn’t anymore. Between games, trips, and everything in between, having something I can do at home in minutes has been a total game changer. The app-guided treatments keep me consistent without having to think about it, and I’m already noticing smoother skin that actually lasts. And yes — the full-body, 10-minute-at-home situation still feels a little unreal.

If you’ve been on the fence, Prime Day (June 14–27) is definitely the moment to check it out with $120 off. #BraunSmartIPL

What we found in Florida was something better than that. #ad

Our first stop in Auburndale was all about slowing down in the best way. We stayed in a cozy tiny home at Camp Margaritaville (you can also stay in an RV!). We enjoyed coffee on the porch, our daughter loved the pool and waterslide (there is even a splash zone for the littles!), and at night we slowed things down with s’mores instead of screens. It felt like nature + comfort + family time all finally in the same place. They have so many other amenities like mini golf, golf cart rentals, pickleball, a playground, cornhole, and more. Nearby, we explored the Florida Children’s Museum and had incredible food and drinks at Smith’s American Tavern and Black & Brew Coffee.

Then, we headed over to Fort Myers to experience a completely different side of the state. Shelling walks at sunrise, beach volleyball, pool cabanas, and the kind of Gulf sunsets that make everyone go quiet for a minute. Direct beach access at the Margaritaville Beach Resort Fort Myers made it effortless to go from “let’s check it out” to toes in the sand in minutes. There were several restaurants on property, so we never even got in our car. That plus live music, fire pits, the spa, and lawn games made it easy to want to stay put and relax.

What stood out most wasn’t just the scenery… it was how easy it was to actually be together here. No rushing or overplanning. That’s the true Floridays feeling for me. Laid-back, a little unexpected, and exactly what we didn’t know we needed. 🌴☀️

One of our favorite family activities in Pigeon Forge because you can snow tube year-round, rain or shine, without worrying about the weather outside.

My daughter could do the tubing hill over and over, and the indoor snow play area makes it even more fun. Honestly such a good break from the summer heat. Plus, it’s super close to nearby attractions like Dollywood and several mountain coasters.

✨ Meet Minnie before you even enter the restaurant and get photos with her + a photopass photographer.
✨ Food is all you can eat. Minnie waffles, bacon, eggs, pastries, fruit, and more!
✨ Multiple characters visit your table throughout the meal.

Getting in a walk or run when I can. Actually drinking my water. Sticking to a skincare routine instead of overthinking it. Paying attention to my hair and scalp instead of just throwing it up and moving on. Nothing extreme, just consistency in the basics.

I’ve also been using Mochi Health for personalized skincare and hair support, and it’s made it way easier to stay on track without guessing what my skin or hair needs.

Dancing Bear Appalachian Bistro took part in Cork to Fork on the Tennessee Whiskey Trail, and every bite felt like a love letter to local flavor. From bourbon-glazed pork belly to a warm cinnamon-bourbon bread pudding that honestly didn’t stand a chance at our table… this was one of those meals you remember.

Mountain views, chef-driven dishes, and whiskey worked right into the menu in the best way. 😋
