Beach Trip 2015: Day 2

July 17, 2015 | blogging, family, Travel

If you missed the recap of our first day you can check it out here.

The next morning was Monday, and I was super excited about breakfast at the Inn. Yall, I wait all year for this delicious all you can eat wonderful spread.

Made to order omelets and waffles, grits, biscuits and gravy, sausage, potatoes, bacon, tons of fruit, yogurt, cereal, you name it. After eating approximately 2.5 times my weight in food, Bobby headed off to his meetings and my parents and I headed to the beach. It was really cloudy, but the forecast said it was supposed to clear up around lunch, and I had faith it would.

My dad kept saying “no way, It’s too cloudy!” but I stood firm in my amazing meteorological skills.

I also laughed a lot at mom and dad playing badminton.

At lunchtime we went up to the dining room, grabbed our boxed lunches and waited for Bobby to come back. We ate, and sure enough, the sun came out!

YAY!

IMG_6266 (2)

Bobby and my dad threw the Frisbee, and I threw the football with my dad (and can I just say my arm killed the next day!)IMG_6284 (2)

We stayed on the beach all afternoon, well until happy hour, of course.

IMG_6293 (2)

We got cleaned up ad went out to dinner to celebrate my birthday a few days early. We ate at Captain Daves which is right on the beach. We were all way too full and stuffed to walk on the beach when we came back so all us old pathetic folks went to bed at 9:00.

QOTD: When you go to the beach do you eat out or cook in a condo, or a mix of both?

I keep telling my husband that we need to get down to Biloxi to the beach this summer and it just hasn’t happened yet! And I go back to work in 2 weeks so I doubt it will. Destin is a place we really want to visit and your pictures make me want to go there even more.

5th grade. ✏️ 🍎 📚 Today she left eleme 5th grade. ✏️ 🍎 📚

Today she left elementary school to change classes all by herself, do homework on a Chromebook, and basically be a grown up at school. 😭

How did we get here? She was just lifting her arms up saying “mommy, hold you!” And it felt like yesterday. It’s bittersweet watching her grow, but I know she is going to do amazing things. She’s got a special fire inside of her that can’t be taught, and I know it will take her far in life.

Chase your dreams baby girl. We will always be right here cheering you on. 🩷 @theprincessek

Summer photo dump ☀️ Emma Kate starts school Summer photo dump ☀️

Emma Kate starts school tomorrow, so I guess summer is officially over. 😭 It’s bittersweet. I’m excited to be back into a routine and fall is my favorite, but I will miss lazy mornings and traveling on a whim and not having to help with homework. 😵‍💫

Here is a carousel of some of my favorite moments. From basketball tournaments to travels down to south Florida and back, Atlanta, Asheville, Tuscaloosa, Pigeon Forge, and all the way to Disneyland, and my 40th birthday plus 4th of July, tiny house camping and Opryland for Bobby’s birthday, we packed a lot into the past 2.5 months.

I never want to forget these special moments with my little family. Memories to last a lifetime that I thank God for. 🩷

Have your kids started school yet?

One of my favorite time (and money) savers? Grabbing a gift card at Kroger for one of our favorite spots (Zaxby’s for us!) and clipping the digital coupon for 4X fuel points.

That means dinner is DONE and I’m saving at the pump. Total win-win! 👏🏼 These gift cards are also perfect for teacher gifts, last-minute summer outings, or a first-day celebration meal. Smart moms know — gift cards give back 💡

BACKSTORY TIME! 🚘 I drove the same Toyota 4Ru BACKSTORY TIME! 🚘

I drove the same Toyota 4Runner for 14 1/2 years. Last October, we got a good deal on a Highlander platinum with 10,000 miles on it from @foxtoyota.

The only problem is, I wanted the Grand Highlander platinum, because it has way more cargo room, legroom, and some other features that the regular Highlander doesn’t have. I thought that’s what we were getting, but it wasn’t available and we ended up with the regular Highlander, which don’t get me wrong, I was very grateful for after driving the same car for so long.

However, as the months went on, the differences were very noticeable, especially with how much we travel and the lack of space. Without me knowing, Bobby had been doing research and working with the wonderful folks at Fox, and was able to find us a brand new Grand Highlander platinum.

He had hoped it would arrive for my birthday, but it was a couple weeks late, which was totally worth it. He’s usually really bad at surprising me (my 40th birthday party a couple weeks ago was supposed to be a surprise, but I found out.) so I was truly in shock and speechless when I came home and this new car, which we named Ruby, was in the garage!

@bobbymontg may not be the most romantic guy, but he shows his love in ways that he knows I appreciate. Best birthday gift ever! 🩷

While grabbing a few things at Walgreens, I picked up a Kohl’s gift card and turned it into the cutest teacher gift — a mason jar wrapped in ribbon, full of pencils with a tag that says “This year is going to be on point.” 🎯

It’s simple, thoughtful, and super practical — because who doesn’t love a gift they can actually use?

Walgreens makes it so easy to grab @incommpayments gift cards for everyone on your back-to-school list — from teachers to even yourself (because let’s be real, moms need a win too 😉).
