Beach Weekend part 1

February 7, 2012 | family, Mental Health, Uncategorized

I know I have touched a little bit on our vacation in posts from the weekend, but now I am back and have my laptop and my pictures from my good camera, so I apologize if a bit of this is a repeat!

Thursday I picked Bobby up from work after loading up the car myself. We headed out of town and got to Lambert’s in Foley about 5:30. We love this place but haven’t been since the last time we were at the Beach Club in 2009.

They have amazing sweet tea. I die.

We stuffed out faces (and had plenty of leftovers!) We were checked into our condo by 7:30, excited for a long weekend of relaxation.

King bed with access to the balcony from the bedroom

Finger in front of the lens? Seriously? Who am I?!

I love that on the booking website you can see pictures and virtual tours of each unit, so you know exactly what you are getting.

This one bedroom condo really sleeps six people and has 1.5 bathrooms.

Although, I think 6 people would be too many for this space! The sofa folds out to a bed, and there are bunk beds hidden in the wall. Although, I did start to hyperventilate a bit at the thought of someone closing those doors while laying in a bunk bed.

Kitchen, and to the left next to the refrigerator was a closet with the washer and dryer.

Hello!

One of the things we love about The Beach club is there are free DVD rentals, you just have to rent one at a time but can watch as many as you want. There is a kiosk in the clubhouse and they give you a special coded card to swipe. After we unpacked, we walked to the clubhouse and rented our first of many DVD’s. After the movie we turned in early, leaving the balcony door cracked so we could hear the ocean. aaahhh…..

The next morning, we ate breakfast on the balcony. It was gloomy and chilly, but we were just happy to be there.

See the covered roof area above the pool? That’s the hot tub. So relaxing.

After breakfast we walked down to the beach. It was really more windy than cold at this point.

Makes me smile.

We saw a very large amount of these small crazy blue jellyfish. Does anyone know anything about them? I am used to seeing the big clear ones washed up (we saw several of those, too). But, every twenty feet of so was one of these guys.

On our way back we saw this beautiful (but slightly creepy looking) bird perched on the walkway. Did I ever mention birds scare the heck out of me? It’s like they are always up to something…

My very favorite spot at the Beach Club would be the swings right outside the pool. They are covered, and look out into the ocean. We spent some time sitting and swinging before going back up to the 9th floor.

That night, we went to dinner at the restaurant at the clubhouse. Check out my snow birds post for more on how that went. Dinner was very good, I got the fillet with mashed potatoes and zucchini, and Bobby got the catch of the day.

Of course, we had to take obligatory balcony pictures at some point, right?

He did wear a belt, I promise. We just had to stop and get it in the car. No belt = pet peeve

After dinner, we hit up the hot tub for some quiet relaxation, but were quickly joined by 6 snow birds in town for two months. They were super sweet and fun to talk to, but it definitely wasn’t the relaxing quiet we had hoped for. Oh well! We got to hear all about the activities they have for the snow birds like yoga, cribbage, casino night, bridge, etc. I hope I can come to the Beach Club for two months when I retire!

We watched another movie then went to bed, fingers crossed for a warmer sunny day!

QOTD: If you could spend two months somewhere, where would it be?

Oh my goodness – that looks amazing! B Lee and I need a vacation – good thing we have one soon! So glad you two were able to take one!

Your fear of birds cracks me up – and reminds me of Sheldon on the Big Bang Theory! There is a hilarious episode about his fear of birds 🙂

Haha, I live in SC and we definitely have the snow birds here too! Lots and lots of older Canadians come down here during the winter. That’s actually about the only people on the beach then, and they swim when it’s super cold.

All your pics are great, but I agree, no way could that condo really sleep 6! At least, I wouldn’t want to be there with 5 others. A couple is cool and maybe a kid, but other than that I think I’d want multiple rooms, just for the sake of privacy :).

I’ve never seen blue jelly fish like that!
My mom’s family is from Minnesota, so I’m an expert on snowbirds. My grandma from Minneapolis used to have the best condo in Naples! Looks like you had a great time! I’m a little jealous 🙂

We will have to add The Beach Club to our list of vacation spots! The Jelly Fish is a Portuguese Man-a-war and the bird is an Egret 🙂

I just recently had to sleep in bunk beds that were identical to those ones! The hotel had told us our room slept 6 but those bunks were two of the beds. I was the smallest at 5″5″ and 130 lbs so I was the only one who could make it through the night without crushing the beds 🙂 Needless to say, it was a tight fit!

If I could have two months away from here, it would be in Alaska. Or the Pacific NW somewhere.

#ad #BraunPartner Less time shaving. More time liv #ad #BraunPartner Less time shaving. More time living thanks to @BraunBeautyUS Smart IPL. ✨

I didn’t realize how much mental space hair removal was taking up until it just… wasn’t anymore. Between games, trips, and everything in between, having something I can do at home in minutes has been a total game changer. The app-guided treatments keep me consistent without having to think about it, and I’m already noticing smoother skin that actually lasts. And yes — the full-body, 10-minute-at-home situation still feels a little unreal.

If you’ve been on the fence, Prime Day (June 14–27) is definitely the moment to check it out with $120 off. #BraunSmartIPL

We didn’t set out looking for a “perfect” trip… we We didn’t set out looking for a “perfect” trip… we just needed a break from the noise.
What we found in Florida was something better than that. #ad

Our first stop in Auburndale was all about slowing down in the best way. We stayed in a cozy tiny home at Camp Margaritaville (you can also stay in an RV!). We enjoyed coffee on the porch, our daughter loved the pool and waterslide (there is even a splash zone for the littles!), and at night we slowed things down with s’mores instead of screens. It felt like nature + comfort + family time all finally in the same place. They have so many other amenities like mini golf, golf cart rentals, pickleball, a playground, cornhole, and more. Nearby, we explored the Florida Children’s Museum and had incredible food and drinks at Smith’s American Tavern and Black & Brew Coffee.

Then, we headed over to Fort Myers to experience a completely different side of the state. Shelling walks at sunrise, beach volleyball, pool cabanas, and the kind of Gulf sunsets that make everyone go quiet for a minute. Direct beach access at the Margaritaville Beach Resort Fort Myers made it effortless to go from “let’s check it out” to toes in the sand in minutes. There were several restaurants on property, so we never even got in our car. That plus live music, fire pits, the spa, and lawn games made it easy to want to stay put and relax.

What stood out most wasn’t just the scenery… it was how easy it was to actually be together here. No rushing or overplanning. That’s the true Floridays feeling for me. Laid-back, a little unexpected, and exactly what we didn’t know we needed. 🌴☀️

One of our favorite family activities in Pigeon Forge because you can snow tube year-round, rain or shine, without worrying about the weather outside.

My daughter could do the tubing hill over and over, and the indoor snow play area makes it even more fun. Honestly such a good break from the summer heat. Plus, it’s super close to nearby attractions like Dollywood and several mountain coasters.

Getting in a walk or run when I can. Actually drinking my water. Sticking to a skincare routine instead of overthinking it. Paying attention to my hair and scalp instead of just throwing it up and moving on. Nothing extreme, just consistency in the basics.

I’ve also been using Mochi Health for personalized skincare and hair support, and it’s made it way easier to stay on track without guessing what my skin or hair needs.

Dancing Bear Appalachian Bistro took part in Cork to Fork on the Tennessee Whiskey Trail, and every bite felt like a love letter to local flavor. Mountain views, chef-driven dishes, and whiskey worked right into the menu in the best way. 😋
