Tonight as I hugged Emma Kate goodnight, she looked at me and said “mom. It just feels different. It’s not as magical.” 💔

I did my best to be excited and tell her how much fun tomorrow is going to be. That there will be presents and candy and games and traditions. But if I was being honest with myself, I really wanted to say “I know. I feel it too, and I’m so, so sorry.” 😞

No one prepares you for the first year of not having a child who believes anymore. And while my family firmly believes the reason for the season is Jesus…let’s be honest, the Santa stuff and the magic is still really, really fun.

And while I know tomorrow will be great as we celebrate the birth of Jesus (and my mom!), there will be a touch of sadness when she comes in the living room to open gifts. I’m prepping myself the best I can, and praying for you if this is where you find yourself this year.

I’m so thankful for the magical years I was given, but I just wish I had a little more time. I also have a feeling I will be saying that a lot over the next few years. I have THE literal best kid, and I can’t wait for so many exciting things to come. But if you are like me tonight, remember that it’s ok to be a little in your feelings. It’s been a long, busy season, and it’s a lot of pressure.

So mama, I see you, and pray that tomorrow holds more magic than you ever thought possible. 🎄❤️🎅🏻

The next few days have the potential for being crazy for us parents. 😵‍💫
The dress up days, gift wrapping, grocery buying, Christmas concert going, cookie baking, and just generally making sure everything is perfect for our kids can take its toll.

But keep in mind, one day when they are moms and dads, they won’t remember if the tree was perfect or if you got professional pics for your Christmas card, how elaborate those elf scenes were or if your wrapping paper matched your ribbon. I think this voiceover says it perfectly and I can’t watch this reel without tearing up. You are doing a great job. 🎅🏻
