Cruise on the Magic Part 2

June 7, 2012 | Disney, family, Travel, Uncategorized

We made it over the hill and are headed down to the weekend on this Thursday morning. This week is flying by, I am still in awe that it’s June and we are starting the 7th day of it already!! I am a little behind on my vacation posts, so I thought today was as good a day as any!

Be sure to check out the first installment of our cruise before continuing on.

We woke up the next morning still sailing towards Key West. We had Palo brunch, so we didn’t eat breakfast. If you have never had the opportunity to do Palo brunch, you are missing out. It is an amazing buffet and plated adults only meal. So relaxing, and so good! It’s Bobby’s favorite part of the cruise. Please note that it is required for a guy to wear long pants for this brunch. No jeans or shorts allowed.

We arrived early and were seated immediately. We were introduced to our server who was very nice and did an excellent job.

Our waiter then brought us to the buffet and showed us all the different tables, and explained how to order the plated food, and then we were let loose.

I didn’t take photos of all the buffet food this time but you can check out my Palo post from the Dream to see lots of buffet table photos! We also ordered several plated items. I got the buttermilk pancakes

Bobby ordered FOUR eggs benedict. He says they are the best he’s ever had!

My favorite, dessert! Cheesecake in a glass, tiramisu, chocolate covered strawberry

Bobby’s birthday was on the reservation as a celebration for the cruise and they brought him this plate out

This is our second cruise where we ate Palo brunch on Key west day, and we love it because you get to watch the ship pull in and dock while you eat.

We went back to our room (more like waddled!) and changed so we could head out and explore. One of the nice things about this trip was that we had no plans. No port adventures, nothing we “had” to do. We have been to Key West before and done all the touristy things, so we just planned to walk around for a bit and then hit up the hopefully deserted pool.

Key West from our room balcony:

The nice thing about docking in Key West is you can turn your cell phone back on! I was able to call my parents and check on my dogs, text and upload some photos, and check work email.

These guys are everywhere!

So, funny story. We walked to the pier and saw this guy fishing. This pelican was standing about eight feet away watching. All of the sudden, the guy gets a tug on his line and the bird starts moving in closer and closer and finally jumps in the water. The guy shoos it away enough to get the fish out of the water, but then decides for whatever reason to give it to the pelican anyway, who promptly put the whole thing in it’s mouth and then had to fight off another pelican trying to steal his fish. It was really comical!

You can see the fish in his mouth! It was huge but he was determined not to drop it. I kept thinking of Finding Nemo when he tells the fish to get in his mouth and he would save them haha

After walking in a few shops, we had our fill and decided to go back and try to get a spot at the adult pool. We lucked up, it was deserted! (The below photo is not where we sat, but still a nice view of Key West!)

Later we went back to the room to try to get some shots of the famous Key West sunset

I think I managed to get a couple good shots. I shall leave you with that. My next installment will have plenty more photos!

I hope everyone got out and ran yesterday! It wasn’t a run day for me, but I couldn’t help it, I jumped on the treadmill to do a mile after my yoga class!

QOTD: Did you run for National running day? Have you ever been to Key West?

As badly as I wanted to run even just a mile yesterday, my ankles are screaming at me so I decided it would be best to give them a little rest. My pup did some running though 🙂 We went to Key West in 2010 on a cruise and enjoyed ourselves. Looking forward to your next vacation post!

I only got in a half mile yesterday because I got tied up talking with a neighbor and blew my allotted running time before dinner!
I am looking forward to our stop in Key West on our cruise in the spring (which I will be getting you to book soon-waiting on a babysitter commitment!). I would love to hear your recommendations of places to go eat or things to do “off the beaten path”.
And–where did you get that FABULOUS hat?? I need one!

I didn’t realize how much mental space hair removal was taking up until it just… wasn’t anymore. Between games, trips, and everything in between, having something I can do at home in minutes has been a total game changer. The app-guided treatments keep me consistent without having to think about it, and I’m already noticing smoother skin that actually lasts. And yes — the full-body, 10-minute-at-home situation still feels a little unreal.

If you’ve been on the fence, Prime Day (June 14–27) is definitely the moment to check it out with $120 off. #BraunSmartIPL

We didn’t set out looking for a “perfect” trip… we We didn’t set out looking for a “perfect” trip… we just needed a break from the noise.
What we found in Florida was something better than that. #ad

Our first stop in Auburndale was all about slowing down in the best way. We stayed in a cozy tiny home at Camp Margaritaville (you can also stay in an RV!). We enjoyed coffee on the porch, our daughter loved the pool and waterslide (there is even a splash zone for the littles!), and at night we slowed things down with s’mores instead of screens. It felt like nature + comfort + family time all finally in the same place. They have so many other amenities like mini golf, golf cart rentals, pickleball, a playground, cornhole, and more. Nearby, we explored the Florida Children’s Museum and had incredible food and drinks at Smith’s American Tavern and Black & Brew Coffee.

Then, we headed over to Fort Myers to experience a completely different side of the state. Shelling walks at sunrise, beach volleyball, pool cabanas, and the kind of Gulf sunsets that make everyone go quiet for a minute. Direct beach access at the Margaritaville Beach Resort Fort Myers made it effortless to go from “let’s check it out” to toes in the sand in minutes. There were several restaurants on property, so we never even got in our car. That plus live music, fire pits, the spa, and lawn games made it easy to want to stay put and relax.

What stood out most wasn’t just the scenery… it was how easy it was to actually be together here. No rushing or overplanning. That’s the true Floridays feeling for me. Laid-back, a little unexpected, and exactly what we didn’t know we needed. 🌴☀️

When the Smoky Mountain heat gets unbearable, we h When the Smoky Mountain heat gets unbearable, we head to Pigeon Forge Snow. ❄️ #sponsored

One of our favorite family activities in Pigeon Forge because you can snow tube year-round, rain or shine, without worrying about the weather outside.

My daughter could do the tubing hill over and over, and the indoor snow play area makes it even more fun. Honestly such a good break from the summer heat. Plus, it’s super close to nearby attractions like Dollywood and several mountain coasters.
