Disney Races

May 17, 2011 | Uncategorized

Hola! Terrific Tuesday! I am starting to get so excited for my trip to Disney! Speaking of Disney, and of course, running, as usual…I thought I would do a post on all the Disney races!

Seriously, Disney knows how to put on a race. No, I am not just saying this because I am a Disney freak, but they REALLY do it right. If you can swing it, I highly recommend running a Disney race at least once in your life. They have so many to choose from!

From the awesome expo, to fireworks at the start, to characters along the course and an awesome finishers medal, it can’t be topped. Make sure you check out my races page and look at my recaps from the Disney half and full marathons.

So, here is a list starting from the next one Disney is hosting and going for the next year….

September 2-4 2011: Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend

The Happiest Race on Earth!

-includes 5k, half marathon, kids races

September 30-October 1 2011: Disney’s Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend

The Runner’s Night Out

-includes relay option

-5k, half marathon, kids races

January 5-8 2012: Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend

The smiles easily outnumber the miles!

-includes relay option

-includes 5k, half marathon, marathon, kids races

January 27-29 2012: Disneyland Tinkerbell Half Marathon Weekend

You can run. You can run. You can run.

-includes 5k, half marathon, kids races

February 24-26 2012: Disney’s Princes Half Marathon Weekend

Because Your Fairy Godmother Carries a Stopwatch

-includes 5k, half marathon, and kids races

May 7 2012: Expedition Everest Challenge

Do you have what it takes to conquer the challenge?

-includes challenge, and kids races

SO many options!!! So exciting! I have been to January Marathon weekend twice, and plan to be at Princess in February 2012. If you have any questions about any of these races or how things are run, questions about the races themselves, expo, etc. Let me know! Not to mention, I would be more than happy to BOOK YOUR TRIP for FREE! So if you are seriously considering running any of these races please contact me for a free quote, I can really help you out with all aspects of your trip!

QOTD: Have you or do you plan to run any runDisney races this year?

I’m running the Tink one in Jan next year! Had planned on doing a full, but due to recurring injuries decided to do a few more half marathons first!

These look so exciting! If I lived closer and could easily swing it, I would definitely be there:) I guess for now I’ll be content with reading your recaps and seeing pictures!

Thank you for putting this on your blog a few days after my first big race, when all I want to do is race more big races! My husband is going to really enjoy all of the “please hunny – can’t we go to Disney 5 times this year so I can run?” 🙂 Hoping that in the (near) future we’ll be able to swing heading to Disney so I can run a half-marathon!

I want to run a Disney race so bad! I’ve heard it’s hard because you want to do well in the race but you also want to take advantage of all the fun photo ops and stuff. I love that they have TWO “girl” races now – Tink and the princesses!

      May 18, 2011 at 12:18 pm

to me its so much more fun to enjoy the race and not worry about PRing, there are always boring races for that back home ha!

I’m running the Wine & Dine in October as coach of the Digital Running Club Team. I’m not sure if I’m going to race it or pace some of the team members to their goals. It will largely depend on how well my training goes over the summer and how many team members we get.

I’m also running the Goofy Race and a half challenge in January. I’ll definitely be playing the role of pacer in those two since I’m very concerned about being stiff at the start of the full marathon following the half. It will be difficult to hold myself back in the half since that’s my favorite race and where I set my current half marathon PR.

I just wish the Disney races weren’t so expensive! : I’d love to do one someday, but after factoring in travel and hotels and everything on top of the race fees, It’d be hard for me to justify 🙁 Maybe someday!

    • Heather says

      May 18, 2011 at 12:17 pm

they usually have hotel discounts for marathon weekend, and the value hotels are already cheaper than your local hampton inn, so its doable if you plan ahead. SO worth it!

I did the half in Jan. I’m doing the Wine and Dine Relay in October with my mom and I’ll be at marathon weekend this January (either doing Goofy or the full marathon). I want to do Princess too, but we’ll see. 😉

As booking the trips, do you just book the hotel or a vacation package (park tickets, meal plan, etc?). My mom already booked the hotel for Wine and Dine (even though I told her to wait a few more days :/) but for Marathon weekend in January, I may hit you up for some booking! 😉

    • Heather says

      May 17, 2011 at 4:37 pm

can book anything and everything. Also, if your ine and dine ressie was booked straight through disney and not another agency i can do a takeover of the reservation and then take care of everything else for you from here on out!

I was hoping to go Goofy in 2012, but it doesn’t look like that will happen. Boo. I also didn’t sign up early enough for Disneyland this year, so it looks like my next Disney race will be the Inaugural Tink!

Started running 9 mos ago… so far have only run 5k’s but am absolutely running Disney Princess 1/2 Feb 2012 and can NOT wait! Couple of friends running w/ me. Best place to stay? To be near start line? If stay at Polynesian can we get monorail to start line? Have stayed there 3x and love it. Not yet stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge but is on our list of places want to stay at so… is that close to start line? Debating French Quarter which we also love but figure if have to take bus to start line will take sooooo much longer and with super early race morning closer better… but wondering how much more this will cost on busy weekend… usually we go weekdays in Sept when kiddos in school… let our kiddo play hooky & enjoy the FL resident off-season lower rates & crowds! Also going on Disney Dream 1st week of June – right after you I believe – so can’t wait to read about it on your blog!

We take her on these trips and cruises hoping she’ll soak in the adventure, the beauty, and maybe even the food from places different from where we live… but to her, nothing beats a corn dog and mac & cheese. 🧀

And honestly, that’s the best reminder for us, that joy doesn’t have to be fancy, it just has to be yours. 🛳✨

YES I was dancing, eating mac and cheese from the YES I was dancing, eating mac and cheese from the kids menu, and singing “Let it Go” with a butter knife while wearing Mickey ears on our Disney cruise. 🚢

When I was 12, I was worried a lot… worried about failing, scared of what people would think of me, and of not fitting in or being “cool”.
I turned 40 this year and have been spending time trying to figure out exactly who I really am with all expectations stripped away. I don’t love the term “finding yourself”, but here I feel like it fits. ✨

Maybe finding yourself means going back to being 12.… and being myself without being scared. Heather at 12 would never believe this version of me… but I think she’d be proud. 💛✨

Emma Kate turned 11 last month during our sailing and we did so many birthday things! She got a ton of “happy birthday’s” from crew and guests to make it extra special. ✨

👉🏻For a link to the birthday ears she wore (they have lots of colors and variations!) comment “EARS” and I will send it to you!

This is 11. ✨🎉 Not sure how this happened, b This is 11. ✨🎉

Not sure how this happened, but time snuck up on me and now I have an 11 year old. 🥹
We couldn’t think of a more fun place to celebrate that on Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island in the Bahamas.

She started the day with presents, then hours and hours in the sun on the island, followed by cake and singing at dinner, the tween club, and fireworks at sea! (They were for pirate night but we said they were birthday fireworks!)

Happy birthday to the most fierce, kind, competitive, loyal, funny, and beautiful little girl I know. 🩷 Never change who you are and stop growing up so fast! So. Blessed to have the best title there is, Emma Kate’s mom. 💖
