Good morning! Great news for all the runDisney fans out there, runDisney announced yesterday that they are adding a component to the Disneyland half marathon weekend, a 10k! Not only that, but you can run the 10k and the half and get a special Dumbo medal (kind of like doing the half and full for goofy). How cool is that?!? Check out this video for the “official invite.” I am SO EXCITED about this!
Also, below is the official press release on the event:
NEW 10K RACE ADDED TO DISNEYLAND HALF MARATHON WEEKEND
Runners Can Double Their Effort With Dumbo Double Dare; Race Registration Opens Next Month

The new 10K race, the latest in the popular runDisney series, will be a timed event and will take runners throughDisneyland, Disney California Adventure and the streets of Anaheim. Each finisher will receive a specially designed commemorative finisher medal. Runners looking for an extra challenge can register for the Dumbo Double Dare, which involves running the10K on Saturday and the Half Marathon on Sunday (19.3 miles total). The limited number of participants who sign up for the Dumbo Double Dare will receive a Dumbo Double Dare running shirt and a special finisher medal, in addition to the Disneyland Half Marathon and 10K finisher medals.
The Disneyland 10K builds on the weekend of races and entertainment geared toward families and runners of all levels. In addition to the 10K, the weekend of events include the Kids Races, the Family Fun Run 5K, the Half Marathon and a two-day Health and Fitness Expo where guests can check out the latest in fitness apparel, running gear and high tech gadgets, plus learn from speakers such as runDisney training consultant Jeff Galloway, runDisney nutrition consultant Tara Gidus and former Olympian Suzy Favor Hamilton. Runners and guests can add to their race weekend experience by purchasing tickets to a Pasta in the Park Party.
“The 10K distance is the third most popular distance for runners next to the 5K and half marathon, so this race weekend will have it all,” said Manager, runDisney Events Kathleen Duran. “We are excited to continue to add different distance races so runners at every level can experience a runDisney event and run through Disney theme parks.”

In case you missed it…registration open January 22, and last year the half sold out in just over a month, so I imagine with the addition of the Dumbo double, it will sell out even faster, so don’t delay once registration opens! Get excited friends!
QOTD: Are you excited about this new race? Do you plan to do it? Thoughts on back to back races?
Sabrina says
I really want to run the 10k, although the Dumbo Double Dare looks awesome too. I just love runDisney.
Heather says
Dumbo looks way cool, I can’t wait to see the medal!
Stephanie says
Hi heather, thanks for the heads up on the dbl dare. Sounds like my kind of event but, is it just me or are the Disney races really expensive? What am I getting (other than the really cool medals!!) for my $280?
Have you heard anything or do you think this may precipitate a dbl dare for the tinkerbell run?? That would also be great!
Steph
Heather says
The races are expensive but you get a lot in my opinion. The expo is huge and has tons of great vendors, you get to run through the parks, stop and take photos with characters, there is snacks and drinks on the course and after the race, on course entertainment like marching bands, dancers, cheerleaders, etc. Plus they are really well organized, tons of port o potties, etc. Also you get a running/sweat wicking shirt, and an amazing medal!
Heather says
To answer your other question, possibly in the future but I doubt right now. If you look at WDW, even though they have several halfs, only one race has the ability to do back to back runs for a 3rd medal.
Miz says
UM wow?
not for me butbutbut Im back in for the princess half!
Madeline @ Food Fitness and Family says
That sounds awesome!! I just wish it wasn’t so expensive 🙁
Heather says
They are but totally worth it! My favorite races hands down.
Ali says

Kierston says

Krissy @ Shiawase Life says

I’m soooo tempted by the 10k. Training in Dallas for a half thru the summer is not something I’d consider, but I would for a 10k. I can easily do 5-6 miles on the treadmill.
Heather says
I was worried about that when I did the half this past year, but it really wasn’t that bad. I wasn’t in GREAT shape but I trained enough to FINISH, not PR, and I did a lot on the TM with just a few early morning long runs outside!
Kelly @ Cupcake Kelly's says
That looks awesome!
Carly D. @ CarlyBananas says
I am dying to do a Disney race. Ahh.
Debbie @ Live from La Quinta says
I love the idea of running through Disneyland. I basically grew up there (seriously, we used to go once a month when I was a kid). That being said, I will never pay $95 for a 10k, let alone $175 for a half marathon. Maybe I’m getting too old, I remember the good old days of $50 marathons, but it is just getting too expensive for races these days.
Laura @ Mommy Run Fast says
I’ve never done a back to back race, but want to at some point… I’d love to do this one someday. But like Debbie said, yikes, that’s expensive!
Megan Johnston (@__MeganJohnston) says
I’m totally doing this! SO EXCITED!
Mindy @Road Runner Girl says
Oh this looks like sooo much fun!!!! I LOVE Disney races!!! I wonder if I could do this one??? I don’t mind the race fee…Disney races are totally worth it. But not sure about having to fly out there. And I probably couldn’t talk any of my running girls into doing it with me. But I SOOO want to do it!!!
Nicole G says
My sweet husband gave me the green light to do the Dumbo Double Dare last night and I am so excited! Don’t know how I’m going to pull off a second Disney trip in 2013 (I’m doing the Tinker Bell Half in 30 days!!), but we’ll work it out. I’m so excited! This will probably be my last Disney race for a while though because of the expense of the race and traveling there, but I’m looking very forward to it!
crystal says
Does this mean that you guys are coming out to DL again this year? You must, right???
Jen says
A friend and I had already decided to fly out for the half, and this just sweetens the pot. We’ll also be getting our C2C medal..lots of bling! Mindy, you can run with us 🙂
Heather says
thats awesome, lots of medals!
MegG says
Looks like a lot of fun! I’m pretty undecided on the Disney races, I’m not one to care too much about registration costs but wooo! these ones seem hefty. I would be more likely to participate when I have kids and could run with a stroller, but I just looked up the rules and it looks like they’re not allowed 🙁 I also remember seeing somewhere that you’re not allowed to bring cameras on the course, is that true? Do they actually enforce these rules?
Heather says
oh my goodness where did you see that? Cameras are absolutely allowed and encouraged, that’s why they have all the characters on the course, so you can take photos! They even have a person with each character that is there that will take your camera, phone etc and take your photo for you! You obviously haven’t read any of my Disney race recaps on my races page. 🙂
No strollers allowed is true and is strictly enforced, wwaaayyyy to many people and it’s dark when we start, but the family fun run 5k is a great one for families! I promise you the races are worth it, it’s so magical to run down main street and through the castle! 🙂
MegG says
Oh! I just went back to the post where I remembered seeing that. An image of the writer next to a sign that says no photos at the Tangled race stuck out in my mind, turns out that it was just a sign near the exit where end of race official photos were being taken!
