Emma Kate: Month 3

December 31, 2014 | baby, family

My little baby is no longer a newborn! Her third month was very eventful with the holidays, and it’s fascinating to watch how quickly she is learning new things.

IMG_1750 (2)

My little girl is definitely showing us her personality, and boy is it a strong one! When she wants to eat or go to sleep, she wants it RIGHT. NOW. It’s amazing how quickly she can go from smiling to screaming.

This month, Emma Kate Loves:

-Putting everything in her mouth

-Laughing

-grabbing at hanging toys

-“crinkly” toys

-Playing “airplane” with daddy

– “Talking” to us

– Watching TV

IMG_1699 (2)

On the flip side, here are some things she does NOT like:

-waiting to long for a nap

-waiting for a bottle

-waiting on ANYTHING

-Being bored

-Tummy time

-Bright lights

-Long car rides

This kid is blowing our minds with all that she is learning and how quickly she is developing. Over Christmas, my dad was holding her in a reclined position in her boppy and he kept getting her to pull up on his fingers. Well, all of the sudden, the child decides to sit up all by herself! She did it several times, we were in shock.

IMG_1680 (2)

Emma has been sleeping GREAT at night. When we were at my parents for Christmas she got a little out of whack, and during her 12 week wonder week she had two nights where she woke up a couple of times, but other than that she is a rockstar at night sleep. Some night she wakes up after 40 minutes or so (we aren’t sure why she’s having a hard time getting through that first sleep transition) but once she is down again (about 7 ish) she is down until around 7:00 in the morning, sometimes 6, and yesterday she slept until 8:00!

IMG_1586 (2)

However, naps are pretty short. This girl loves to sleep just not for long periods during the day. She takes a nap every 1.5-2 hours of wake time during the day. I was putting her down after two hours but lately she has been getting cranky sooner so I have been putting her down sooner. She typically naps four times a day from 30 minutes to an hour at the longest, with most averaging around 40-45 minutes. We are still rocking her to sleep. but plan to sleep train starting at 4 months.

IMG_1523 (2)

She is still sleeping in her swing at night, but we are slowing it down to the second setting this week (out of 6) as we get her towards motionless sleep for her fourth month and sleep training. The swing stops after 4 hours so at night she goes a long time with it being still. She is still spitting up a lot so we are going to keep her in the swing until at least four months and her 4 month check up.

IMG_1567 (2)

We spend the day rotating between the boppy, her activity mat, her bouncy seat, and now her newest toy, her jumparoo. She can’t reach the floor yet so we have a box under her, but she is starting to figure out how to bounce in it. She can hold her head up very well but sometimes rests it on her arm when she gets tired.

IMG_1918 (2)

She is wearing size 3-6 months and 6 month clothing. She is so long that I think we will be in 9 month footed PJ’s soon! She is definitely getting some baby fat, and I think she weighs around 15 pounds! I can’t wait to get her official stats next month at her doctor’s appointment. She is in size one diapers, but I think we will be moving to size two very soon.

IMG_1599 (2)

I can’t believe that just a few short months ago she was still inside of me, and now she is seeming more and more like a little person every single day. She wants to talk and walk SO badly, she gets really frustrated when she can’t “go” and when we don’t understand what she wants. She laughs and smiles all the time, which is really fun.

IMG_1674 (2)

A new development for January, Emma Kate will start mother’s day out at church twice a week so I can get more work done. Plus, I will finally be joining a gym! More on that in my 3 month post partum update that I will try to get up at the end of this week.

QOTD: What is your favorite stage from the first year of a baby’s life? Favorite baby toy or contraption that helped you?

So cute! It’s crazy how fast they develop. And this post makes me sad that Hadley now yanks every headband off her head!

She is adorable it’s so fun to read your updates since my daughter is the same age ( a week younger). I think they would be good friends lol. She also hates waiting for anything! I always have to have the bottle ready to go. She is also trying to sit up. Since she is my first , this is the most fun stage so far ! Everyday is something new

Her outfits are adorable! She is so cute! What a great sleeper too! Some parents cant even get their older kids to sleep till 7am, so hats off to you! Heather, your’re doing a great job balancing being a mom, blogging, running and working. I know it probably doesn’t seem that way, but you look great, your posts are good and EK is happy. Don’t be hard on yourself.

If you’re planning a trip to Florida’s Forgotten C If you’re planning a trip to Florida’s Forgotten Coast, save this one. 🌊 #RentingTheCoastPartner

We stayed at Singing Waves in Cape San Blas, and it was everything we wanted in a beach getaway: beautiful views, plenty of space, and the kind of place that makes you slow down and actually enjoy vacation.

What really stood out, though, was Renting the Coast. They’re a locally owned, family run company that manages vacation homes throughout Cape San Blas, Port St. Joe, Mexico Beach, and the surrounding Forgotten Coast communities.

Instead of managing hundreds of properties, they intentionally keep their inventory smaller so they can provide a more personal experience for both guests and homeowners. They’re known for being accessible, responsive, and focused on making sure every stay goes smoothly.

If Cape San Blas has been on your travel list, Singing Waves is absolutely worth checking out, and so is Renting the Coast’s collection of homes along Florida’s most underrated stretch of coastline. ☀️

I didn’t realize how much mental space hair removal was taking up until it just… wasn’t anymore. Between games, trips, and everything in between, having something I can do at home in minutes has been a total game changer. The app-guided treatments keep me consistent without having to think about it, and I’m already noticing smoother skin that actually lasts. And yes — the full-body, 10-minute-at-home situation still feels a little unreal.

If you’ve been on the fence, Prime Day (June 14–27) is definitely the moment to check it out with $120 off. #BraunSmartIPL

We didn’t set out looking for a “perfect” trip… we We didn’t set out looking for a “perfect” trip… we just needed a break from the noise.
What we found in Florida was something better than that. #ad

Our first stop in Auburndale was all about slowing down in the best way. We stayed in a cozy tiny home at Camp Margaritaville (you can also stay in an RV!). We enjoyed coffee on the porch, our daughter loved the pool and waterslide (there is even a splash zone for the littles!), and at night we slowed things down with s’mores instead of screens. It felt like nature + comfort + family time all finally in the same place. They have so many other amenities like mini golf, golf cart rentals, pickleball, a playground, cornhole, and more. Nearby, we explored the Florida Children’s Museum and had incredible food and drinks at Smith’s American Tavern and Black & Brew Coffee.

Then, we headed over to Fort Myers to experience a completely different side of the state. Shelling walks at sunrise, beach volleyball, pool cabanas, and the kind of Gulf sunsets that make everyone go quiet for a minute. Direct beach access at the Margaritaville Beach Resort Fort Myers made it effortless to go from “let’s check it out” to toes in the sand in minutes. There were several restaurants on property, so we never even got in our car. That plus live music, fire pits, the spa, and lawn games made it easy to want to stay put and relax.

What stood out most wasn’t just the scenery… it was how easy it was to actually be together here. No rushing or overplanning. That’s the true Floridays feeling for me. Laid-back, a little unexpected, and exactly what we didn’t know we needed. 🌴☀️
