Universal’s Volcano Bay Waterpark is an oasis of fun and adventure in Orlando, Florida. With its tropical scenery and amazing attractions, it offers something for everyone, from thrill-seekers to those looking to relax in a serene setting. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned pro, these five tips will help you make the most of your visit.
1. Arrive Early and Plan Your Day
Tip: Arriving early is crucial for maximizing your time at Volcano Bay. Check the Universal Orlando app to see what time it opens the day you are going, and get there before it does! Getting there before opening ensures you can secure a good parking spot and be among the first to enter. Once inside, head straight to the most popular rides to avoid long lines later in the day. The Krakatau Aqua Coaster, (my personal fave) and Ko’okiri Body Plunge are top attractions that can have significant wait times as the day progresses.
Pro Tip: Use the interactive park map available on the Universal Orlando app to familiarize yourself with the layout and prioritize your must-see attractions. The app also provides real-time updates on wait times and allows you to set reminders for ride availability. Also, remember if you are staying on property you can enter early! and SUPER pro tip: stay at Universal’s cabana Bay Beach Resort so you can walk to the waterpark via a special entrance!
2. Utilize the TapuTapu Wearable Technology
Tip: Volcano Bay has revolutionized the theme park experience with its TapuTapu wearable technology. Upon entry, every guest receives a TapuTapu wristband, which eliminates the need to stand in line for attractions. Simply tap your wristband at the entrance of a ride to receive a return time, allowing you to explore other areas of the park while you wait. You can only have one return time at a time though, so use it wisely! Any ride that shows “ride now” you can scan into and go right in the line without disrupting the virtual spot you already made for another ride.
Pro Tip: TapuTapu can also be used for cashless payments, locker access, and interactive experiences throughout the park. Make sure to link a credit card to your TapuTapu through the Universal Orlando app for a seamless, wallet-free day.
Super pro tip: Tap into the water coaster first. The weekend we were there, the line got to 4 hours!
3. Stay Hydrated and Apply Sunscreen Frequently
Tip: Florida’s sun can be intense, and spending an entire day outdoors at Volcano Bay means you’ll need to stay hydrated and protect your skin. Bring a reusable water bottle and refill it at the numerous water stations around the park. Sunscreen is a must—apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, and reapply every two hours, especially after swimming or sweating.
Pro Tip: Consider wearing a rash guard or swim shirt with built-in UV protection. Not only does it provide an extra layer of defense against the sun, but it also helps keep you cool and comfortable. Also, the ground gets HOT so wear water shoes or flip flops! There are places to store your shoes at most rides.
4. Rent a Locker for Your Valuables
Tip: To fully enjoy the waterpark without worrying about your belongings, rent a locker. Lockers are available in various sizes and are conveniently located throughout the park. Stash your valuables, extra clothes, and other essentials securely, so you can focus on having fun.
Pro Tip: If you’re visiting with a group, consider renting a larger locker and sharing it to save on rental costs. Keep essentials like sunscreen, water bottles, and a change of clothes within easy reach. Also, skip the ones right in front, they will be super hectic. Instead go to a bay that’s further into the park!
5. Consider an Express Pass
Tip: To be able to ride more rides in less time, consider an Express pass. Ours let us ride each attraction one time during the say, and we were still able to tap into a ride and get into a virtual line. With an express pass you just walk right up and tap in, and don’t have to come back at a later time. You don’t get in a separate line, you just don’t have to wait to come back!
Pro Tip: Not all attractions are included in the express pass at Universal’s Volcano Bay, so keep that in mind when choosing what to tap into with your virtual spot. We chose the water coaster first thing and rode it around 2:00 when our time was called.
Universal’s Volcano Bay Waterpark is a tropical paradise filled with fun rides, relaxing rivers, and beautiful beaches. By planning ahead, utilizing TapuTapu technology, staying hydrated, and taking advantage of the park’s amenities, you can ensure a fun and memorable experience for everyone in your party. Remember, the key to a great day at Volcano Bay is to stay flexible, enjoy the moment, and make the most of the unique attractions and experiences this incredible waterpark has to offer!
