FAQ

Hello! If you have a question you would like me to answer, just send it to heather@heatherslookingglass.com and I would be happy to put it in this section! Or, if you are shy, you can comment on this post under a fake name 🙂

1.) What do you do for a living? You talk about being at home a lot.
Yes! I love working from home. I get paid to blog and create content for social media full time. Last year I took a leap of faith and I am making more than I made working my corporate job for an influencer marketing company. So happy I bet on myself!

2.) What kind of dogs do you have?
I have a 3 year old goldendoodle (medium) named Dolly, and a puppy goldendoodle name Luna who is a mini and will be about 20 pounds full grown.

3.) What Disney resorts have you stayed at?
I have stayed at the Grand Floridian, Contemporary, Bay Lake Tower, Polynesian, Boardwalk, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Wilderness Lodge, Beach Club, Yacht Club, Port Orleans Riverside and French Quarter, Coronado Springs, All Star Sports, Pop Century, Caribbean Beach, All Star Music, Saratoga Springs, Old Key West, and the Fort Wilderness Campground. My favorite is the Grand Floridian. 🙂 I have also sailed on four Disney cruise ships.

4.) How did you and Bobby meet? How long did you date and how long were you engaged?
Bobby and I met my sophomore year of college, the first weekend back at school. We were both playing in an intermural volleyball tournament on opposite teams and we started talking. He invited me to come out and play ball with them in the afternoons, and he finally asked me out one day. 🙂 We dated for one year and three months before Bobby had the nerve to propose. We then were engaged for 13 months before we got married. (yes it was a long engagement, but when you are having a New Orleans wedding you have to book things way in advance because big weddings are so popular!) We were married January 6, 2007.

5.) How did you get started distance running?
In high school I was a sprinter and a 400 seemed like a long way. In January of 2009, I went to Disney World and watched some friends run the marathon. While standing on the side watching the runners and the spectators, I started to tear up. I was so inspired watching the runners at mile 23ish of their race, determined to finish. At that moment, I decided if they can do it, I can do it. I went home and started training. The next year, I went back and ran the half marathon with my husband. Halfway to my goal! I ran two more halfs, and then started training for the full marathon in the summer. I went back January 2011 and accomplished my goal of running the full marathon! It took me two years but I came full circle. 🙂

6.) I noticed that you don’t blog about your food. What is your diet like?
I knew I was going to get this one! I don’t blog about my food for a reason. I have gotten SO much better, but I am definitely not the epitome of the healthy eater. I have a HUGE sweet tooth and I eat chocolate regularly. I also love bread and pasta, but have cut back. I eat a lot of chicken, and try to limit my red meat to once a week or so. I also LOVE sweet tea but only drink it once a week on the weekend as a treat. I like simple recipes (check out my recipes tab!) I also love cheese!!!! I have broadened my horizons a lot in the past few years, but I still don’t eat seafood and a lot of veggies.

7.) Have you ever struggled with food or your weight?
eh….I’m not really sure how to answer this question. In high school, I ate whatever I wanted. I just never thought about it. I played three sports, and I was skinny as a bean pole! When I went to college, I still ate what I wanted, but it started to take it’s toll because I wasn’t working out that much. I gained about ten pounds but it didn’t really bother me. I also have someone close to me that struggles with an eating disorder, and watching this person makes me NEVER want to go down that road. I think I have a healthy relationship with food. Sure I would love to tone up here and there, who doesn’t. I have trimmed up since I started running, but I don’t weigh myself often and just tend to go by how my clothes feel. I am 5’9″ so I will never be “tiny” and I am ok with that. I am curvy, and my husband likes it, so there. 🙂

8.) What kind of camera do you use?
I have a NikonZ50 and love it! I am still so overwhelmed by it, but haven’t had time to learn all I want to know. Hopefully I can take a class soon to help me. I also have an iphone 14 pro max.

9.) Why did you move to Tennessee?

In the summer of 2022, my family up and moved to Knoxville. We have lived in MANY different places for many reasons, but we want to stay put here! No offense to those from Mississippi, but we just didn’t love it. It’s super hot, super humid, and fun things are many hours drive away. We got bored quickly in the summers, and the particular town we lived in was very materialistic and it was really taking it’s toll on my mental health. I never felt like I fit in because we aren’t rich, and I had a hard time feeling valuable or like I had anything to offer. We love the mountains, the weather here, SO many activities, restaurants, etc. It’s never ending! Plus my parents are less than an hour away. We haven’t looked back and are happy with our decision and thankful it all worked out!

If you’re planning a trip to Florida’s Forgotten C If you’re planning a trip to Florida’s Forgotten Coast, save this one. 🌊 #RentingTheCoastPartner

We stayed at Singing Waves in Cape San Blas, and it was everything we wanted in a beach getaway: beautiful views, plenty of space, and the kind of place that makes you slow down and actually enjoy vacation.

What really stood out, though, was Renting the Coast. They’re a locally owned, family run company that manages vacation homes throughout Cape San Blas, Port St. Joe, Mexico Beach, and the surrounding Forgotten Coast communities.

Instead of managing hundreds of properties, they intentionally keep their inventory smaller so they can provide a more personal experience for both guests and homeowners. They’re known for being accessible, responsive, and focused on making sure every stay goes smoothly.

If Cape San Blas has been on your travel list, Singing Waves is absolutely worth checking out, and so is Renting the Coast’s collection of homes along Florida’s most underrated stretch of coastline. ☀️

Please tell me I’m not the only one who’s been personally victimized by the passage of time and a perky Gen Z girlie. 😂

I didn’t realize how much mental space hair removal was taking up until it just… wasn’t anymore. Between games, trips, and everything in between, having something I can do at home in minutes has been a total game changer. The app-guided treatments keep me consistent without having to think about it, and I’m already noticing smoother skin that actually lasts. And yes — the full-body, 10-minute-at-home situation still feels a little unreal.

If you’ve been on the fence, Prime Day (June 14–27) is definitely the moment to check it out with $120 off. #BraunSmartIPL

We didn’t set out looking for a “perfect” trip… we We didn’t set out looking for a “perfect” trip… we just needed a break from the noise.
What we found in Florida was something better than that. #ad

Our first stop in Auburndale was all about slowing down in the best way. We stayed in a cozy tiny home at Camp Margaritaville (you can also stay in an RV!). We enjoyed coffee on the porch, our daughter loved the pool and waterslide (there is even a splash zone for the littles!), and at night we slowed things down with s’mores instead of screens. It felt like nature + comfort + family time all finally in the same place. They have so many other amenities like mini golf, golf cart rentals, pickleball, a playground, cornhole, and more. Nearby, we explored the Florida Children’s Museum and had incredible food and drinks at Smith’s American Tavern and Black & Brew Coffee.

Then, we headed over to Fort Myers to experience a completely different side of the state. Shelling walks at sunrise, beach volleyball, pool cabanas, and the kind of Gulf sunsets that make everyone go quiet for a minute. Direct beach access at the Margaritaville Beach Resort Fort Myers made it effortless to go from “let’s check it out” to toes in the sand in minutes. There were several restaurants on property, so we never even got in our car. That plus live music, fire pits, the spa, and lawn games made it easy to want to stay put and relax.

What stood out most wasn’t just the scenery… it was how easy it was to actually be together here. No rushing or overplanning. That’s the true Floridays feeling for me. Laid-back, a little unexpected, and exactly what we didn’t know we needed. 🌴☀️
