Festive-ness

July 5, 2011 | Uncategorized

Tuesday already?!? Does everyone feel extra spry after a 3 day weekend? I know I loved having hubby home for the extra day. Makes a ton of difference if you ask me! In case you missed some weekend posts because you were BBQing or shooting out people’s eyes with fireworks, you can catch up below:

Friday Favorites: Smoothies

Jambalaya Recipe

Runner’s World Skirted

July Goals

Also, as promised, here are some fun and festive pictures from yesterday. First, the shoes I pull out every year! I wore these babies proudly to church yesterday morning.

holy cuteness! I have had these bad boys since high school, but I love ‘em.

Then after church we went to a BBQ in our neighborhood. Check out the festiveness:

Running Skirt’s strappy tank in Midnight and red dot sweaty band. Great for a par-tay!

Check out my super cute American flag pin!

Don’t I just scream soccer mom? It’s going to be fun, guys, one day when I do have little mini-me’s!

Also, can I brag about the awesomness that is my husband? Saturday after we went out to eat we stopped at the sporting goods store and bought a tent for the beach, and then he said he wanted to go “look around” Best Buy. Folks, I go through this A LOT. The boy is obsessed with video games. Anyway, he was sneakily trying to let me pick out my nook color and a case for my birthday. Recently when I found out you can check e mail, websites, and blogs on the nook color, I really wanted one b/c lugging my laptop around when I fly gets really annoying and heavy. Well, we started looking, then I spotted the iPad 2 which is super cool. Then a guy started helping us and explained there is a tablet that is way cooler than the iPad2 and cheaper, and he wanted us to look at it.

Why is the acer iconia so cool? Well, it has flash player, and, AND a full size USB hook up and HDMI hook up. SWEET! I was playing with it while Bobby was drilling the kid on the specs, and the kid said “let me know if I can help any more or grab one for you” and Bobby said “ya, get on for me” WHAT?!? OMG! So, happy birthday to me! I now have a tablet! It’s really cool and I love it so far! My hubby is awesome.

say hello to my little friend.

So, basically, he wanted to get me my nook early so I could be downloading books to take to the beach next week, and we ended up walking out with my Iconia instead. I am a happy girl, and a lucky one, too. he spoils me.

I have more festiveness to share with you tomorrow, we had some friends over for a BBQ of our own last night! Stay tuned! Oh, I also have a recipe to share! Maybe tomorrow? MAYBE!

——————————————–

Yesterday at the gym I did legs, tri’s, and chest, as well as 20 minutes on the bike.

QOTD: What is the best birthday gift you have ever gotten? Getting a new 4runner last year was pretty sweet if I do say so myself.

I know exactly what you mean about Best Buy – my hubby is the same way, except he could spend hours in the Blu-Ray section! Enjoy your tablet – I love my iPad! So easy to carry around!

Yay for a fun bday gifts!

On one of Jeff and I’s first dates, we stopped off at Best Buy. I waited in the car because he said he’d be gone for 5 minutes. Nope, he was gone 44 minutes. I still bring it up to this day! Men!

my husband is as sweet as yours. sometimes my friends/acquaintances dont understand. their husbands are not ever as nice and sweet. i can’t imagine not having a husband who’s my best friend and a good person to everyone he meets. now if i can talk him into a tablet……i have to tell him he’s competing with bobby today! and i’ll “let” him go to best buy if there is something in it for me lol!

    love your blog!

My mom bought Chris a shirt that has the Best Buy yellow tag across the front but it says “Broke Guy” instead! Yeah…he spends a lot of time there.

You are adorable in all of your red/white/blue! That is a really cute tank top.

I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just o I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just okay.” Like, fine in a pinch… but never something I craved. 👀

But then this little picnic happened—just me, my girl, and a sweet treat we both loved enough to fight over the last bite. 😅

We’ve been trying to be more mindful with food choices lately (especially with summer travel coming up), and I grabbed these So Delicious treats at Kroger kind of on a whim. The new packaging caught my eye, but it was the taste that totally surprised us. Creamy. Indulgent. No weird aftertaste. And no, we’re not fully dairy-free—and we still loved them.

It’s one of those little swaps that doesn’t feel like giving anything up.

And that? That’s a win for both of us. ✨@So_Delicious

🚨 Homeschool decision!! If you have been aroun 🚨 Homeschool decision!!

If you have been around here since Christmas time, then you know we pulled Emma Kate out of her private school after the first semester and put her in a hybrid homeschool for the spring. The main reason being we wanted more absences than the school allowed.

What is a hybrid? In our case, she went to a school all day 3 days a week, and we taught her at home two days a week.

It seemed like the best of both worlds, not having absences count since we were also her teachers, being able to stay home some, sleep in, and travel.

Well, it wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies. For one, the school we sent her to ended up not being what we thought. We were told being absent wouldn’t be a problem, but it became clear very early on her teacher was not a fan and she was not kind or accommodating to Emma Kate. There’s a lot of other reasons we didn’t blown the school I won’t go into. (If you are local and considering hybrid feel free to dm me and I will share my concerns and grievances.)

Teaching your kid is hard. There were lots of tears and frustrations, and she got bored since Bobby and I also work from home/I’m not a stay at hoke mom. We couldn’t just sit with her all day and teach her with our crazy long hours owning two businesses.

It was tough to keep a schedule and while getting to travel a lot was great, she didn’t thrive on not having a routine and struggled with the randomness of everything.

She is also a very social only child who missed her friends and also wants to play sports for her school.

In the end while there were a lot of pros to hybrid homeschool, the cons outweighed them for us so we are returning to her old school in the fall.

Am I glad we did it? Yes! I always would have wondered otherwise and now we know. We will still be pulling her out of school some to travel in the fall, just not as much.

If you have any questions feel free to drop them in the comments below and I will be happy to answer the best I can! 🩷
