House Photos Part 1

September 18, 2014 | family

I have been getting questions about the house, and because I can’t do a lot at once it is taking a long time to get unpacked. Things still aren’t exactly like I want them, but the main rooms are presentable enough to give you a peek at the space with some house photos.

The thing that drew me to this house was the big open space that is the living room/kitchen/dining room. We like to entertain so choppy rooms don’t really work well for us. Also, I want to be able to have line of sight now that we will have a kiddo in the mix! It will be so easy for me to be in the kitchen while baby M is well, pretty much anywhere in the big space. We downsized homes when we moved, but with the big open space it feels a lot bigger. There are also a ton of windows so lots of natural light!

The master bedroom is through the hallway on the right of the photo. I am standing next to the counter/bar in the kitchen and the dining room and front door are on the left.

House photos

Front door is next to that blue table on the left. (I also really like that I can see the TV from the kitchen!)

house2

Below, the kitchen is to the left, and back behind that wall where our wedding photo is, is a hallway that has stairs going upstairs to the bonus room, and the laundry room. There is also a mudroom and a desk, and a door to the garage. Out that blindingly bright window is the garage. My next project is that ugly kitchen table. My parents had it when I was a child! The table isn’t in bad shape so I want to paint it, and just find some new chairs I can paint as well and re-upholster maybe. Haven’t found anything I like just get on Craigslist. Also as you can see baby stuff is already taking over!

house3

Next to the Kitchen is the keeping room area, which could have also been  breakfast nook, but we already have a dining table plus the bar stools so we thought it silly to have a third eating area and opted to make a cozy sitting space instead. That hallway leads to the other two bedrooms and the second bathroom.

house4

I’m not showing the whole kitchen because well, I didn’t feel like cleaning it up. But there is a big bar that goes across the room and the refrigerator is on the left of the microwave and stove. hallway to mudroom/garage is on the right.

house5

If you will remember from my move in day post, this will give you an idea of what the kitchen space looks like from the living room area.

moving2

My next set of pictures will be bedrooms/bonus room etc, that one may take a little longer to do because those rooms are what I have saved for last as far as unpacking goes since no one really sees them. Smile

QOTD: When you move, how long does it take you to unpack? Do you prefer an open floor plan or closed off rooms?

The house looks great, Heather! Its been taking us awhile to unpack as well, in addition to painting every room in the house, etc. Question: is that blue table by the front door from Target? I’ve been looking at the same one for awhile now, but was worried about it being poor quality and it falling apart right away. What are your thoughts on it?

    • Heather says

      September 19, 2014 at 8:52 am

yup it’s from target! I mean…it was cheap so it’s not the BEST quality, but I don’t plan on moving it around so it’s been fine. It made it through the move fine so I’m happy with it. I don’t have anything in the cabinets that I really use much so I’m not opening and closing it a lot etc.

It looks great Heather!!! I love all the baby touches! That means she’s almost here! And turning the breakfast area into a sitting nook is a great idea! Can’t wait to see the rest of the house! And I am like you…all about the open floor plans!

I love open spaces because it does make things feel bigger. I feel it’s vital in apartments to take advantage of as much space as possible.

    • Heather says

      September 19, 2014 at 8:50 am

lol must be a southern thing? It’s a room off to the side of your kitchen, kind of like a sitting room or second living room but usually smaller and less formal

No joke- we had that exact kitchen table and chairs and just got rid of them! We found a newer table and 3 chairs at a consignment shop and husband sanded, stained and reupholstered the chairs to look like the table and we bought a matching bench rather than a 4th chair.
    The house looks great!!

I have seen that table and chairs SO many times! It must have been the “it” design when we were kids.

We moved from our condo to our house when B was 1.5, but both had very open layouts, and I love them! Is the backsplash in your kitchen tile? I love the look of it!

it’s little tiny pieces of glass tile 🙂

Backstory: It was our last morning and Myself, my Backstory:
It was our last morning and Myself, my mom and dad were sitting outside by the fire drinking coffee enjoying the view. My mom was walking to the door and my dad and I heard a scraping noise on the deck. I was sitting and the column was blocking my view. Dad was standing. He turns away from me, and says super casually:

“Oh look, it’s a bear.” 🐻

I jumped up sure enough there is a baby bear standing at the top of the steps, 12 feet from us. We ran in and locked the door and called for Bobby and EK to come look. We left our coffee outside and mom and dad’s phones were out there. Thankfully I had mine for video!

We had grilled steaks the night before so they were coming to find the food. (After the first morning…we had grilled the first night too…we saw bear paw prints so we knew there were some in the area.)

Emma Kate was recording on her iPad, and got the best clip of all, the very best one! He actually seated at her two different times but we only got one on video.

It was quite the adrenaline rush but also SO COOL and a great way to end the trip!!!

*Please do not ever approach or feed a bear. While black bears typically aren’t aggressive, if humans feed them they will continue to get close. If staying in the Smoky Mountains stay aware and never leave food outside or in your car! And lock your car and cabin doors.*
