How to Make Sure Your House Move Goes Smoothly

August 24, 2022 | family

Buying a new house is one of the most stressful things a family can do. Even once you’ve gone through all of the hard work of finding a property and making the purchase, you still have the dreaded house move to work through.

While moving to a new house is always going to mean a busy day with plenty of hard work, it doesn’t have to be as difficult as you might think. With a little bit of preparation and planning, you can make sure that the moving day goes well, allowing you to settle in as soon as possible.

Pack in Advance

Before the moving day itself, you need to have everything ready and packed away. Rather than doing everything the day before you move, it’s best to be prepared and start packing at least a couple of weeks in advance.

Once you have an idea of your moving date, then there’s nothing stopping you from starting to pack away non-essential items. This also gives you plenty of time to sort through your belongings and get rid of things that you don’t need or use. Moving is always the perfect opportunity for a clear-out, and the sooner you start packing, the sooner you can start clearing things out.

If you have room to store your packed boxes, then try to put them somewhere out of the way. If not, then a self storage container such as those found at https://www.storagearea.com might be the perfect solution for keeping your belongings safe and out of the way.

Dealing With Children and Pets

If you find moving stressful, then how do you think your children and pets feel? They can further complicate the move and it’s sometimes difficult to keep them safe and happy while you’re trying to focus on the move.

The first thing to do is to keep your kids informed. Tell them about your plans in advance so that they can prepare themselves and hopefully get excited about the move. They may be comfortable, so giving them time is a fantastic way to help them come to terms with the move and to plan ways to keep in touch with their friends.

Older children can even help out with the move. They can pack their belongings, and, depending on their age, assist with the move itself. However, younger children and pets might be better off being somewhere else for the day. A babysitter or a pet sitter can keep them safe and entertained while you concentrate on the move.

Get Help

Manpower is one of the most important resources at your disposal when moving house. You might be able to ask friends and family to help you move, perhaps hiring a van for larger furniture. Just be sure to reward them with a takeout or something else.

Otherwise, hiring a moving company is a great option to ensure that your belongings are moved quickly and safely. Whatever you choose, make sure that you don’t try to tackle everything alone!

Some days, the scoreboard doesn’t look the way we Some days, the scoreboard doesn’t look the way we want it to, but that doesn’t change how proud we are. ❤️

Yesterday we didn’t win the championship, but that didn’t stop us from remembering what really matters, that our daughter is an amazing human who deserves to be celebrated even on the tough days. 🍧

Parents, it’s SO easy to get wrapped up in the game. Let’s always remember that our kids’ worth isn’t measured by a trophy or a score. Celebrate them. Encourage them. Love them unconditionally. ✨

They are enough. Always. 💛
