How to Save Money for Your Family

May 3, 2021 | money

Whether you have a small or a large family, saving money should be a top priority. Your savings can add up to big rewards. This reward may be the family vacation you’ve always wanted, saving for college, or even buying your dream home.

While saving money in large amounts is encouraged, it is the small everyday savings can really add up over time. Take a look at these practical money-saving tips.

Buy Groceries Online

This may not seem like the most obvious thing to do but buying groceries online and having them delivered even if you have to pay a small fee, can give you the discipline that you need to keep your grocery bill in check. When you physically go into the store it’s easy to get distracted and to come out with things that you don’t necessarily need. I do this all. the. time.

When you shop online you can systematically put things in a cart from your list and it’s much harder to get distracted. It keeps your focus, not to mention the fact that it saves you a trip to the grocery store!

Birthday Party in Moderation

Birthday parties are exciting times for families especially when you have kids. However, sometimes spending can get out of control. Consider only doing low-cost birthday party activities.

This may be spending the day at the beach or having your kid’s friends to a sleepover where they have cake and ice cream, or even an afternoon at a local park. Kids really just want to play together and eat sugar right? Also we love experience gifts rather than lots of toys!

Check Your Appliances

The appliances that you have in your home may be draining your energy and skyrocketing your utility bills without you knowing. If you don’t currently have energy-saving appliances you may want to look into replacing some of them!

Furnishing a home with new energy-saving appliances may not be as difficult as you would imagine especially if you buy them second-hand. There is an idea out there that all second and appliances must be junk. This is not necessarily the case.

Often people will sell their old appliances simply because they want to upgrade to a new model or want something bigger, it doesn’t mean that there’s anything wrong with the old appliance. If you can get appliances like these to buy that have energy-saving capabilities then you have found a good deal.

Another great way in which you can save money is by going solar. Sometimes there are community solar projects available, like this one at https://www.choosesolar.com. Projects like these allow you to enjoy the benefits of solar power without having to buy solar panels!

Get Thrifty

Thrifting is one of the most economical habits you could bring into your life. Thrifting does not have to mean that you buy low-quality items.

There are a lot of high-quality thrift store purchases that look as good as new. There are actually thrift stores online where you can pick up high-quality items without even leaving home. A lot of our clothing and furniture is second hand, and you know never know.

Start Saving

When you start to make saving a consistent habit, you should reward yourself. You can reward yourself by spending some of the money you have saved on having fun with your family or buying a much-needed item.

Whatever you do, make sure that you find a way to enjoy at least a small portion of your savings. Rewarding yourself will give you even more motivation to continue saving, so let’s get to it!

Some days, the scoreboard doesn’t look the way we Some days, the scoreboard doesn’t look the way we want it to, but that doesn’t change how proud we are. ❤️

Yesterday we didn’t win the championship, but that didn’t stop us from remembering what really matters, that our daughter is an amazing human who deserves to be celebrated even on the tough days. 🍧

Parents, it’s SO easy to get wrapped up in the game. Let’s always remember that our kids’ worth isn’t measured by a trophy or a score. Celebrate them. Encourage them. Love them unconditionally. ✨

They are enough. Always. 💛
