It’s Almost runDisney Time!

December 13, 2012 | Disney, runDisney, running, Travel

Oh yes my friends, yesterday marked one month until Goofy’s race and a half challenge will (hopefully) be completed by yours truly! I am excited/nervous, and can’t wait to be back in my happy place with a bunch of runners and a bunch of my friends.

(2011 WDW marathon)

Marathon weekend is January 10-13, and will include kids races, a 5k, half marathon, and marathon among other amazing events like the health and fitness expo and pasta in the park party. There is SO much excitement in the air during marathon weekend, and I can’t wait to be back for my third time. I think one of my favorite things about the weekend is everyone wearing their medals in the parks after the race. You stand in line for rides, talking with other runners, sharing your account of the race…it’s this amazing connection that you have with other park guests, and it’s so much fun to share.

I wish I had gotten into running sooner, thinking about all the runDisney race fun I was missing prior to 2010! The race is unfortunately sold out for this year, but be sure to register early so you don’t miss out next year! (P.S. Registration for the Disneyland half in California opens January 22, don’t miss out! This one sold out in just over a month last year!)

I am also really excited about the Disney Princess half in February…which I will save for another post, after I get through marathon weekend!

Be sure to follow @runDisney on twitter and Facebook so you don’t miss out on the action, and you can also subscribe to their YouTube channel for the latest video updates.

P.S. You CAN sign up for the Expedition Everest Challenge for May 2013!

QOTD: When do you start to get excited about a big race? Months before, weeks before? Or when you toe the line?

Our IT guy runs this every year. Last year he did the Goofy races. This year he’s apparently running the 5K, the half AND the full– CRAZY!
I’ll be at the Princess Half…my first 1/2 marathon!

I start to get excited my pieces of my race outfit come together. This is usually the week of, BUT with the Disney Princess, obtaining my costume and practicing is required. So yes .. I will be excited a little early this year 🙂

It depends on the race for me. For Broad Street Run and Rock and Roll Philly this year, I started to get excited a few days before the race. For the Philadelphia Marathon, I was bouncing with excitement as soon as I hit taper time. I would love to run a Disney event some day. I get excited just thinking about all the possibilities!

I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just o I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just okay.” Like, fine in a pinch… but never something I craved. 👀

But then this little picnic happened—just me, my girl, and a sweet treat we both loved enough to fight over the last bite. 😅

We’ve been trying to be more mindful with food choices lately (especially with summer travel coming up), and I grabbed these So Delicious treats at Kroger kind of on a whim. The new packaging caught my eye, but it was the taste that totally surprised us. Creamy. Indulgent. No weird aftertaste. And no, we’re not fully dairy-free—and we still loved them.

It’s one of those little swaps that doesn’t feel like giving anything up.

And that? That’s a win for both of us. ✨@So_Delicious

🚨 Homeschool decision!! If you have been aroun 🚨 Homeschool decision!!

If you have been around here since Christmas time, then you know we pulled Emma Kate out of her private school after the first semester and put her in a hybrid homeschool for the spring. The main reason being we wanted more absences than the school allowed.

What is a hybrid? In our case, she went to a school all day 3 days a week, and we taught her at home two days a week.

It seemed like the best of both worlds, not having absences count since we were also her teachers, being able to stay home some, sleep in, and travel.

Well, it wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies. For one, the school we sent her to ended up not being what we thought. We were told being absent wouldn’t be a problem, but it became clear very early on her teacher was not a fan and she was not kind or accommodating to Emma Kate. There’s a lot of other reasons we didn’t blown the school I won’t go into. (If you are local and considering hybrid feel free to dm me and I will share my concerns and grievances.)

Teaching your kid is hard. There were lots of tears and frustrations, and she got bored since Bobby and I also work from home/I’m not a stay at hoke mom. We couldn’t just sit with her all day and teach her with our crazy long hours owning two businesses.

It was tough to keep a schedule and while getting to travel a lot was great, she didn’t thrive on not having a routine and struggled with the randomness of everything.

She is also a very social only child who missed her friends and also wants to play sports for her school.

In the end while there were a lot of pros to hybrid homeschool, the cons outweighed them for us so we are returning to her old school in the fall.

Am I glad we did it? Yes! I always would have wondered otherwise and now we know. We will still be pulling her out of school some to travel in the fall, just not as much.

If you have any questions feel free to drop them in the comments below and I will be happy to answer the best I can! 🩷

Tucked away just outside of Gatlinburg, Alpine Hav Tucked away just outside of Gatlinburg, Alpine Haven was everything we wanted in a mountain getaway—and then some. ⛰️

This luxury cabin has 4 spacious bedrooms (including one with built-in bunks that my daughter loved) and 4 full bathrooms, making it perfect for a family trip or group vacation.

We spent our days soaking in the hot tub with mountain views, lounging on the deck by the fireplace with coffee in hand, and playing pool in the game room.

The cabin even has its own private sauna and steam room—YES, really! It felt like a full-on spa experience right in the woods. ✨

And one of the best surprises? It has its own playground, which was a total hit with with daughter and such a bonus for keeping little ones entertained.

We were just minutes from downtown Gatlinburg, but honestly, we barely wanted to leave. If you’re planning a Smoky Mountains trip, Alpine Haven is that perfect mix of cozy, modern, and wow-worthy. 💫
