June Goals 2012

June 1, 2012 | fitness, motivation, running, Uncategorized

Greetings! I first want to extend a warm hello to any new readers who found me after my feature as Women’s Running magazine’s Blogger on the run. I took some time and read through every comment (all 750+ of them!) and some of you said some really sweet things about my blog, and I so appreciate you all!

Sassy and Bella say welcome to the blog!

Welcome to RWS, and be sure to check out some of the tabs above (some have drop down menus) and look around. Here are a few places you may want to start:

FAQ

Ok, so today is the first day of June (wow!) and I decided it was high time I set some goals for myself. I am relatively goal oriented, (aren’t most runners?) and work well when I have something to…well…work towards. I did a little brainstorming, and this is what I came up with for June:

Drink more water: I live in coastal MS. It’s hot and humid. I know I need to start upping my water intake with this heat, and the fact that I am constantly sweating during workouts from the second I walk out the door. I mean, am I going outside or walking straight into a tank full of water? I despise humidity! We have a zero water filter that we love and use every day. I need to start keeping track with how many times I refill it a day to make sure I am getting enough liquid.

Keep up with my training plan: Two days ago, I shared with you all that I had just started a new half marathon training plan and I REALLY wanted to stick with it. Only time will tell, but this is a big goal for me! I have completed two days so far, but still have a long way to go.

Read my Bible every day: I am actually usually pretty good about this and get 5-6 days in a week, but I want to be more consistent every day of the week, not just most of the time.

Foam Roll: This needs to be a constant goal for me. With my very tight and angry IT bands and the prior issues I have had with them, I really need to remember to be proactive with this one and not wait until it starts to hurt me again to foam roll. This is just pure laziness on my part.

Take more pictures with my DSLR: Folks I have gotten lazy. With my new iPhone, I have hardly picked up my “good” camera, except for when I am on vacation or at a particular event. The result is sub-par photos on my blog. Yes, it’s easier for me, but I need to stop with the excuses and just do it!

QOTD: Do you have any goals for June? I would love to hear them!

Good luck with your goals! I definitely need to follow your lead on the water and drink more of it. Your pics are still good even if you take them with an iphone, too.

I love my foam roller! My goal for June is to keep running (I just did my first half last weekend!) and to PR at the 5K I’m running at the end of the month!

My June goals are to be more consistent with my workouts and more conscious of my food choices, ESPECIALLY on the weekends. I was doing good with both, but let the craziness of this week get in the way and I am ready to be back to our normal schedule. I start my Half training in July, so I am hoping to implement these changes and make the daily workouts habit so that I am ready to tackle the increased mileage through the dog days of summer.

Congrats on the WR feature! That’s fantastic.

I am So with you on being lazy with pictures. I just realized I must dig out the real camera for next week when my son finishes up elementary school–I can’t take those pics on my phone!!!

Okay, yesterday I was so pumped to find your blog from the WR feature, but to see one of your goals is to read your Bible every day just made me that much happier! 😉

My June goals are to get out and run three days per week. My little guy turned three months today, the weather is perfect running weather, and it is light out for hours and hours. I have officially run out of excuses! Oh, and this weekend I’m going to buy a new pair of runners. I like shopping goals!

I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just o I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just okay.” Like, fine in a pinch… but never something I craved. 👀

But then this little picnic happened—just me, my girl, and a sweet treat we both loved enough to fight over the last bite. 😅

We’ve been trying to be more mindful with food choices lately (especially with summer travel coming up), and I grabbed these So Delicious treats at Kroger kind of on a whim. The new packaging caught my eye, but it was the taste that totally surprised us. Creamy. Indulgent. No weird aftertaste. And no, we’re not fully dairy-free—and we still loved them.

It’s one of those little swaps that doesn’t feel like giving anything up.

And that? That’s a win for both of us. ✨@So_Delicious

🚨 Homeschool decision!! If you have been aroun 🚨 Homeschool decision!!

If you have been around here since Christmas time, then you know we pulled Emma Kate out of her private school after the first semester and put her in a hybrid homeschool for the spring. The main reason being we wanted more absences than the school allowed.

What is a hybrid? In our case, she went to a school all day 3 days a week, and we taught her at home two days a week.

It seemed like the best of both worlds, not having absences count since we were also her teachers, being able to stay home some, sleep in, and travel.

Well, it wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies. For one, the school we sent her to ended up not being what we thought. We were told being absent wouldn’t be a problem, but it became clear very early on her teacher was not a fan and she was not kind or accommodating to Emma Kate. There’s a lot of other reasons we didn’t blown the school I won’t go into. (If you are local and considering hybrid feel free to dm me and I will share my concerns and grievances.)

Teaching your kid is hard. There were lots of tears and frustrations, and she got bored since Bobby and I also work from home/I’m not a stay at hoke mom. We couldn’t just sit with her all day and teach her with our crazy long hours owning two businesses.

It was tough to keep a schedule and while getting to travel a lot was great, she didn’t thrive on not having a routine and struggled with the randomness of everything.

She is also a very social only child who missed her friends and also wants to play sports for her school.

In the end while there were a lot of pros to hybrid homeschool, the cons outweighed them for us so we are returning to her old school in the fall.

Am I glad we did it? Yes! I always would have wondered otherwise and now we know. We will still be pulling her out of school some to travel in the fall, just not as much.

If you have any questions feel free to drop them in the comments below and I will be happy to answer the best I can! 🩷
