Lacing Up

November 8, 2011 | Uncategorized

No new news on my foot except it still hurts. I am taking ibuprofen and icing, hopefully after a week or so off I can run on it again. While doing some research on what caused this barrel of fun, I came across several articles suggesting I lace my shoes up differently to help prevent pain and tightness.

The two ways I plan to try out after I get better involve parallel laces, and skipping some of the holes. Runner’s World even has a lacing guide to walk you through it. Hopefully, one of these lacing tricks will help the top of my foot from staying injured (and, not tying my laces too tight, way to go, Heather)

The first is to skip the spaces where you feel tenderness or tightness on your foot

The next is to lace your shoes up with the laces going parallel (straight across) instead of diagonal criss-cross. I didn’t take a picture of this one but the directions are on the Runner’s World guide above.

Another option would be to buy shoes with stretchy laces, or buy some of the laces and put them in your existing shoes.

The Zoots above came with those laces. I have always wanted to buy some of the laces you can put into your shoes (with the lock so you don’t have to tie them) but I never have gotten around to doing it!

(source)

Be sure to check out the Runner’s World article, because they talk about a couple of other techniques for lacing your shoes, but they don’t pertain to top of foot pain like I am experiencing.

By the way…..

This girl is really exited we had a great weekend in football. LSU won the BCS championship their game against Bama, and the Saints beat Tampa Bay. I was in a good mood.

———————————————————–

I meant to work out today, but between running errands, getting groceries, working, and cooking I just let it slide. I am determined to get at least some abs, stretching, and foam rolling in tomorrow! Foot still hurts…so no running. Boo.

I bought a new comforter set for our master bedroom, so I need to go wash some sheets. I will post pictures of the new stuff soon, I love it!

QOTD: How do you tie your shoes? Any tips or tricks?

That lacing guide is great! I get tenderness on the side of my foot (below my pinky toe) so maybe lacing my shoes differently will help.

So exciting to get a new comforter set! B Lee and I are hoping for a new bed for Christmas – that would mean getting new sheets! (And a new bedroom set!)

Katie did a great post about lacing techniques http://katierunsthis.com/2011/10/04/running-shoe-lacing-techniques/
I just lace mine regular, but I am thinking I may need to change things up a bit to get a bit more arch support.

I haven’t had foot issues so I haven’t ever played around with lacing. Good luck! I hope one of the techniques works out for you!

I lace regular, but do the loop thingy so the shoe fits more snug around my ankle. I have issues with my heel lifting out of the shoe when I run, so the loop lock or whatever it is called has worked for me.

I lace regular, but think the guide is great. I hope your foot gets better soon. I’m taking a few days off to see if that helps my PF at all.

Women, I encourage you in 2026 to find a table where women champion other women. And I encourage all the ladies here to be a girl’s girl. There is room for everyone, and we ALL need a little support, even those that look like they have it all together.

Let’s commit to helping each other on AND offline. A simple smile, an “I love your dress” or “your kid did great in the school play” or “hang in there, you got this!” Goes a long way.

I will never understand people going out of their way to intentionally bypass a person online or in real life. People matter. It’s a tough time of year for a lot of people, so let’s all act like the friends we claim to be and be there for each other however we can. ❤️

This one is great for busy folks who want to make a “special” drink without too much fuss. 🎄

It’s literally just water frozen in the bottom of a glass with some rosemary taped in it. I waited a few hours the poured in some Prosecco and added in edible glitter (you can use multiple colors!) pretty and delicious, and keeps your drink cold! Cheers! 🥂 ❄️

The end of the year is always a time that I reflec The end of the year is always a time that I reflect on how things went, what I want to do different or better in the new year, and to be honest…I’m always really hard on myself.😕

I often end up sad or frustrated that things didn’t “turn out as planned.” But planned according to who? Success according to what?

As we were ice skating last weekend at Gaylord Opryland, laughing and just having so much fun as a family, I was hit with what I can only describe as a warm fuzzy. I wanted to smile and cry all at the same time. I thought to myself….this is it right here. 🥹

If nothing else good happens, I’ve got this and am so rich because of it. These moments. This is what I always prayed for as a girl when imagining my family one day. And it’s here, happening right now. I don’t want to wish it away waiting for the next big thing to happen.

I just want to ice skate with them in a place that makes us so happy. Wha a year. ⛸️ ❤️

It’s still Thanksgiving weekend so this counts as It’s still Thanksgiving weekend so this counts as a Thanksgiving post, right? 🦃🫶🏻

I took the day off on Thursday and then worked a ton Friday, EK had bball Saturday and then we went out of town. I realized I never posted for turkey day! 😜

I have so much to be thankful for, most days I feel completely undeserving. God has been good to us, even in the days that don’t feel so good. His plans may not make sense at the time, but thankfully He is the one that sees the whole picture, not us!

We are going into the Christmas season with hearts full of gratitude and love as we celebrate the birth of Jesus. This is the most special and my favorite time of year! Let the celebrating continue!

Lastly, I am thankful for all of YOU! For liking, commenting on, and watching my content over the years. Without you, my career doesn’t exist and I am beyond thankful for the opportunities this job has given me. So THANK YOU! 🫶🏻
