Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party 2011

October 24, 2011 | Uncategorized

Good morning! Sorry this post is so late. I got home from St. Louis at 6:30 last night then the Saints played at 7:30, so I was slightly preoccupied. Then, I allowed myself to sleep in and slept 10 hours!

More about the expo and the race tomorrow, but I will say the race was fun, very pretty course, and I didn’t do too bad. I didn’t PR, but was SO close, which is amazing considering 3 days of expo legs and all the hills on the course! This girl grew up below sea level so I don’t train on hills! Plus, my IT band which did SO WELL during the Gulf Coast half, flared up due to the hills and hurt me pretty badly the last 5 miles. BUT, more on all that later.

I wanted to get these pictures from Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween party up in case anyone is going this week, so they can see them!

With Jen being pregnant, clearly the most logical (and cheap) thing for us to do was go as Dr.’s trying to get pregnant lady to delivery! She really did need the wheelchair too, no way the poor thing would have been able to walk around all night!

It was funny to watch Jen get wheeled around quickly and around sharp turns. I don’t think she was a fan.

Luckily, we all love candy so had no qualms about all the trick-or-treating!

We rode pirates, and the boys rode splash while Jen and I trick-or-treated some some. The, it was time to head to Hallowishes. I love this fireworks show. I may or may not know all the words…

We got more candy, and soon it was time for the parade. Bobby and I shared a soft pretzel while we waited for it to start. The headless horsesman soon arrived and the parade began.

These guys are my favorite. They twirls their shovels and the ground and sparks fly!

After the parade, we got more candy, and  the boys rode space mountain. Our friends left after that, and Bobby and I did some more trick-or treating and walking around. Before we knew it, it was midnight and time to leave.

We sleepily made it back to the Grand Floridian, and dumped out all our candy, just like when we were kids.

The next morning we sadly checked out of the hotel and made our way home, very sad it was over. It was such a great trip and it will be so hard to top!

Also, if you would like to see pictures from the Halloween party from last year (I took more) check out this post.

QOTD: Did you trick-or-treat as a kid? What was your favorite costume that you wore?

SO FUNNY!! Ryan just sent me an email at work that said “Good Lord, did you see how much Halloween candy Heather got at MNSSHP?!?!” So i had to come check it out. When we went to MNSSHP we did bring a bigger bag (as you suggested to us at the expo) but we just used the ones Disney gave us. That night as we were leaving Ryan said, “Gee, Heather must get an insane amount of candy if the Disney bags were breaking on her.” oh my gosh! That is a crazy pile!! How did you get all that?? I’m so impressed!!
I LOVED MNSSHP! We weren’t sure if we wanted to go or not so we looked through your album on fb and that helped us decide we definitely wanted to go. So thanks for all the tips!!

Looks like you guys had fun! We went to Mickey’s Halloween Party here at Disneyland for the first time last week! It was so much fun! We got a ton of candy, too. We didn’t get to see the parade, but we did get to see the fireworks, which was awesome. It is probably different than the one at WDW. I thought the music was great! K was the cutest Mickey ever, too! Next year, we will go earlier and try to get some halloween pics with characters. The lines were just too long this time.

We didn’t set out looking for a “perfect” trip… we We didn’t set out looking for a “perfect” trip… we just needed a break from the noise.
What we found in Florida was something better than that. #ad

Our first stop in Auburndale was all about slowing down in the best way. We stayed in a cozy tiny home at Camp Margaritaville (you can also stay in an RV!). We enjoyed coffee on the porch, our daughter loved the pool and waterslide (there is even a splash zone for the littles!), and at night we slowed things down with s’mores instead of screens. It felt like nature + comfort + family time all finally in the same place. They have so many other amenities like mini golf, golf cart rentals, pickleball, a playground, cornhole, and more. Nearby, we explored the Florida Children’s Museum and had incredible food and drinks at Smith’s American Tavern and Black & Brew Coffee.

Then, we headed over to Fort Myers to experience a completely different side of the state. Shelling walks at sunrise, beach volleyball, pool cabanas, and the kind of Gulf sunsets that make everyone go quiet for a minute. Direct beach access at the Margaritaville Beach Resort Fort Myers made it effortless to go from “let’s check it out” to toes in the sand in minutes. There were several restaurants on property, so we never even got in our car. That plus live music, fire pits, the spa, and lawn games made it easy to want to stay put and relax.

What stood out most wasn’t just the scenery… it was how easy it was to actually be together here. No rushing or overplanning. That’s the true Floridays feeling for me. Laid-back, a little unexpected, and exactly what we didn’t know we needed. 🌴☀️

When the Smoky Mountain heat gets unbearable, we h When the Smoky Mountain heat gets unbearable, we head to Pigeon Forge Snow. ❄️ #sponsored

One of our favorite family activities in Pigeon Forge because you can snow tube year-round, rain or shine, without worrying about the weather outside.

My daughter could do the tubing hill over and over, and the indoor snow play area makes it even more fun. Honestly such a good break from the summer heat. Plus, it’s super close to nearby attractions like Dollywood and several mountain coasters.

Here is my favorite in park Disneyland character e Here is my favorite in park Disneyland character experience: The Plaza Inn character breakfast. Here are a few things to know:

✨ Meet Minnie before you even enter the restaurant and get photos with her + a photopass photographer.
✨ Food is all you can eat. Minnie waffles, bacon, eggs, pastries, fruit, and more!
✨ Multiple characters visit your table throughout the meal.
✨ Reservations are a must and can book up quickly!

This was such a fun way to start a park day and meet several characters without spending part of the day waiting in character lines.

Getting in a walk or run when I can. Actually drinking my water. Sticking to a skincare routine instead of overthinking it. Paying attention to my hair and scalp instead of just throwing it up and moving on. Nothing extreme, just consistency in the basics.

I’ve also been using Mochi Health for personalized skincare and hair support, and it’s made it way easier to stay on track without guessing what my skin or hair needs.

Dancing Bear Appalachian Bistro took part in Cork to Fork on the Tennessee Whiskey Trail, and every bite felt like a love letter to local flavor. From bourbon-glazed pork belly to a warm cinnamon-bourbon bread pudding that honestly didn’t stand a chance at our table… this was one of those meals you remember.

Mountain views, chef-driven dishes, and whiskey worked right into the menu in the best way. 😋
