My Favorite Things 2011

November 29, 2011 | Uncategorized

Welcome to the Oprah Winfrey show RWS show! My mom keeps asking me what I want for Christmas, and I am not sure what to tell her. I thought maybe I could help some of you out with your lists with a few of my favorite things of 2011. Some are health and fitness related, and some are just plain ‘ole fun, and some I don’t own but think are pretty cool! So so no particular order…

1. Keurig single cup brewer:

I love this little baby. I am the only coffee drinker in my house, and always fond it a waste to make a pot of coffee for just one cup. Not to mention, I always made it wrong. Too watery, too strong, but this way it’s perfect every time! I also love trying out all the different flavors and love that you can make tea, cider, and hot chocolate as well!

2. Running Skirts Capri Skirt:

With the colder weather upon us, it doesn’t mean you can’t wear a cute running skirt until spring. it just means you need to buy a capri skirt! These skirts have a drawstring and the same pockets, comfiness, and flattering fit as the regular skirts.

3. Acer Android Tablet:

Bobby got me one of these for my birthday and I use it every single day. It’s so nice to get online without having to turn on my computer or look at my tiny phone screen. We debated between the ipad and the android tablet, but in the end the android won because 1.) it was cheaper 2.) it has flash player 3.) has a full sized USB plug in. It’s great to take on a plane or to a hotel with free WiFi, I love being able to travel lighter!

4. Tall Boots:

I got a brown pair and black pair from Shoe Carnival on Black Friday and I love them. They are comfy and you can wear them with cute sweater dresses or with skinny jeans or regular jeans. I am generally not a trendy person but they are everyone this season!

5. Alarm Clock on Wheels:

(source)

That’s right, you read it correctly. I do not have clocky here, but think he’s pretty cool. Clocky will give you one chance to get up and turn off your alarm like a normal person. If you don’t, he will literally jump off your nightstand and run from you, beeping and flashing until you get up, catch hi, and turn him off. That will wake you up in the morning!

6. Tervis Tumbler

I pretty much only drink out of these cups. If you live in the south, you understand how humid it gets here and how much glasses sweat and then water gets everywhere. Not to mention it helps keep your drink hot or cold due to the insulation. I also love the cute logos you can buy! You can also get a lid and/or straw to go with it.

7. Running Chics shirt

No lie, these shirts are so soft I want to wear one every day. There is a great selection and the logo is really cute, too. Great for wanting to be cozy and comfy in the winter months ahead. You must buy one!

8. Digital Picture Frame:

(source)

I got a Kodak digital picture frame for Christmas last year and I love it. I have mine in the kitchen, so it’s fun to be able to look over at pictures of my family while I am cooking or doing something in the kitchen. It’s also nice when you have company over, they seem to really like looking at vacation pictures, etc. in that way instead of flipping through a photo album.

9. Brookstone nap blanket

This is the softest blanket every created. Bobby bought one for me a couple years ago, and somehow the dos managed to steal it, but I am taking it back. It’s the perfect Sunday-afternoon-on-the-couch blanket. If you are ever in Brookstone, go check out how soft this thing is!

10. iPod nano

This is one gift I may ask for. I have a very old school iPod mini. Remember those things? I usually just bring my phone and listen to Pandora but I hate carrying my phone but I know this would easily clip onto my clothing, Now, which color should I ask for?

*Check out last year’s Runner Gift Guide!

I love your favorite things list because I have a lot of those too… Keurig, Tervis Tumblr, so awesome :). And, I just got new boots two weeks ago and am waiting for cooler weather to wear them (been in the 70s here).

My favorite K-cups are the Gloria Jean’s so you should try those if you haven’t, it’s flavored coffee!

I totally want a Keurig with the filter basket so I can use my own coffees too!

I use my Tervis every day at work still! I think I need a new one, though, b/c it’s all stained with coffee…boo. Still works, though…

I just ordered new boots, too, but they are ankle boots with cute buckles. I think I’m too short/bowlegged/thunder thighed to wear tall boots. :-/ hahaha

I don’t think I’m asking Santa for anything, since I will probably be shopping till I drop on the cruise next week… 🙂

I LOVE the NAP blanket!! So incredibly soft! I’d ask for the snuggie version but I already own a snuggie!

We bought my parents a digital picture frame last year and pre-loaded it with scanned photos from their wedding, all us kids growing up, etc. It was a big hit!

I asked Santa for some running skirts, runlove compression socks and some actual day-to-day clothes, too! 🙂

ok, I totally need that alarm clock!! And I am drinking from a Turvis Tumbler right now 🙂 Santa brought my gift early this year–a new laptop to replace my 5 year old desktop that refused to run the new photoshop.
But our big christmas gift will be the new house—fingers crossed for a Christmas closing!

I actually put up my dear santa letter on my blog last week http://taraburner.com/misc/revised-dear-santa-letter.php but I must get a new blender (though I’m trying to hold out for Blendtec or Vitamix but I’m entering week 3 of no smoothies so may have to settle for cheapie blender), punching bag, and few other things are on my list….now unless Santa really exists I don’t foresee getting anything on it since ummmm who’d buy it?! 🙁 one of many downsides of being single lol

I asked Husband, er I mean Santa, for new running shoes. Since I now work for a shoe store, it’s more likely that we will go in, I will purchase them and he will wrap them.

Today, I went to the beach front with my children.

I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She
put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it
pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is entirely off topic but I had to tell
    someone!

Regardless of what style you prefer, the quality is something
that really counts when keeping your home safe and secure.

    Tilt up doors use fir, spruce and other soft wood;
roll up uses oak, redwood or plywood. That’s the same fisheye effect that you get with this
    lens.

Franchisees are not employees, although they work to instructions and will hopefully have been recruited with as much,
if not more, care. I can tell you what doesn’t make sense and what does.
It can be if you are looking at the bottom line
financial figures, but you can’t look at just the numbers, you have to see and know what that money is buying you.

I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just o I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just okay.” Like, fine in a pinch… but never something I craved. 👀

But then this little picnic happened—just me, my girl, and a sweet treat we both loved enough to fight over the last bite. 😅

We’ve been trying to be more mindful with food choices lately (especially with summer travel coming up), and I grabbed these So Delicious treats at Kroger kind of on a whim. The new packaging caught my eye, but it was the taste that totally surprised us. Creamy. Indulgent. No weird aftertaste. And no, we’re not fully dairy-free—and we still loved them.

It’s one of those little swaps that doesn’t feel like giving anything up.

And that? That’s a win for both of us. ✨@So_Delicious

🚨 Homeschool decision!! If you have been aroun 🚨 Homeschool decision!!

If you have been around here since Christmas time, then you know we pulled Emma Kate out of her private school after the first semester and put her in a hybrid homeschool for the spring. The main reason being we wanted more absences than the school allowed.

What is a hybrid? In our case, she went to a school all day 3 days a week, and we taught her at home two days a week.

It seemed like the best of both worlds, not having absences count since we were also her teachers, being able to stay home some, sleep in, and travel.

Well, it wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies. For one, the school we sent her to ended up not being what we thought. We were told being absent wouldn’t be a problem, but it became clear very early on her teacher was not a fan and she was not kind or accommodating to Emma Kate. There’s a lot of other reasons we didn’t blown the school I won’t go into. (If you are local and considering hybrid feel free to dm me and I will share my concerns and grievances.)

Teaching your kid is hard. There were lots of tears and frustrations, and she got bored since Bobby and I also work from home/I’m not a stay at hoke mom. We couldn’t just sit with her all day and teach her with our crazy long hours owning two businesses.

It was tough to keep a schedule and while getting to travel a lot was great, she didn’t thrive on not having a routine and struggled with the randomness of everything.

She is also a very social only child who missed her friends and also wants to play sports for her school.

In the end while there were a lot of pros to hybrid homeschool, the cons outweighed them for us so we are returning to her old school in the fall.

Am I glad we did it? Yes! I always would have wondered otherwise and now we know. We will still be pulling her out of school some to travel in the fall, just not as much.

If you have any questions feel free to drop them in the comments below and I will be happy to answer the best I can! 🩷
