New Year’s Eve Weekend Recap

January 5, 2016 | baby, family, holidays, running

Hi friends! Here we are in the thick of the first week of January and I realized I never recapped the holiday weekend. Whoops! Not that we did anything super exciting, but anyway. I didn’t even make it to midnight on NYE, but did enjoy watching some football. On Friday, I took down the Christmas tree and all the other decorations around the inside of the house (sad panda) aannddd I did it like this:

KIDDING! although, how flippin awesome is that?!? Genius. If I didn’t enjoy the putting on of the ornaments so much, I would consider it. We stayed inside that day because it was pretty chilly. I moved Emma Kate’s table and chairs into the living room and she is really enjoying it.

Saturday was another cold day, but I needed to run 6.2 miles, so I left Bobby home with EK during her nap time and headed out. I swear the cold weather makes me run faster so I can get. it. over. with. I ran a super hilly course and ended up running less that two minutes off of my 10K PR!

Also yall, seriously, I am going to have to go back to braiding my hair when I run. It’s getting longer and is so thick…When I started my run, my ponytail was super tight and ON THE TOP OF MY HEAD. Check out it’s ending location. Whomp whomp. #HairDrama.

Later that afternoon, we all needed to get out of the house, so even though it was 44 degrees, we took Emma Kate to the park. I thought for sure we would be the only ones there and I would be shamed for brining my child out into the frozen tundra (don’t laugh, I have lived in the south my entire existence), but I had to laugh when the park was FULL. Then I remembered, kids have been out of school. For two weeks. Parents are losing their minds. Everyone, let’s go to the park!

Emma Kate LOVED this cool slide. She went down it about ten times. Little daredevil.

She is so sweet. I love it when she has a good time.

After we were sufficiently frozen, we went to Chick-Fil-A where I got what will most likely be my last Peppermint milkshake of the season. More sad times. Emma Kate wanted to try it, and thankfully she loved it, unlike her daddy. Shame.

Sunday morning was a little warmer, and we headed off to church before watching the Saints win their final game of the season.  How adorable is Emma Kate’s dress?!?

We went for a family walk (Bella included) in the afternoon, took down outdoor lights, and just hung around Sunday night, because we have a really great social scene here in Mississippi yall.

That’s about it! I hope you had more excitement than us, and that you don’t still have your tree up. Seriously, it’s time. Have a great day all!

QOTD: How long do you leave your tree up after New Years?

Ugh, I suffer through the same ponytail drama. I seriously will only braid it for long runs now.

EK is so stinking’ cute!!!! And yes….I’m one of THOSE. I still have my tree up. 🙁 In my defense we were really busy this weekend so we just didn’t get to it. It will be down soon! Maybe! Lol!

I left my tree up at work because I couldn’t take it down before break. I took down all the other decorations and it looked so sad and depressing. Now the tree is down and I’m taking the ornaments back home 🙁

We left ours up till New Years also. I just can’t bear to take it down right away. But once New Years hits, it’s time! Though I think it’s still sitting at the end of the driveway to be picked up from yesterday…

It won’t be long until you realize that you WANT your child to dislike your desserts! Especially the world’s best milkshake: The Chick Fil A peppermint one. If they don’t like it they can’t steal it all with their cute little faces. LOL.

LOVE Emma Kate’s dress! I live in Madison too (frequented the Orange Leaf during the summer), and my daughter is 7mo. If you decide to sell it when she outgrows it let me know!! 😉

#ad #BraunPartner Less time shaving. More time liv #ad #BraunPartner Less time shaving. More time living thanks to @BraunBeautyUS Smart IPL. ✨

I didn’t realize how much mental space hair removal was taking up until it just… wasn’t anymore. Between games, trips, and everything in between, having something I can do at home in minutes has been a total game changer. The app-guided treatments keep me consistent without having to think about it, and I’m already noticing smoother skin that actually lasts. And yes — the full-body, 10-minute-at-home situation still feels a little unreal.

If you’ve been on the fence, Prime Day (June 14–27) is definitely the moment to check it out with $120 off. #BraunSmartIPL

We didn’t set out looking for a “perfect” trip… we We didn’t set out looking for a “perfect” trip… we just needed a break from the noise.
What we found in Florida was something better than that. #ad

Our first stop in Auburndale was all about slowing down in the best way. We stayed in a cozy tiny home at Camp Margaritaville (you can also stay in an RV!). We enjoyed coffee on the porch, our daughter loved the pool and waterslide (there is even a splash zone for the littles!), and at night we slowed things down with s’mores instead of screens. It felt like nature + comfort + family time all finally in the same place. They have so many other amenities like mini golf, golf cart rentals, pickleball, a playground, cornhole, and more. Nearby, we explored the Florida Children’s Museum and had incredible food and drinks at Smith’s American Tavern and Black & Brew Coffee.

Then, we headed over to Fort Myers to experience a completely different side of the state. Shelling walks at sunrise, beach volleyball, pool cabanas, and the kind of Gulf sunsets that make everyone go quiet for a minute. Direct beach access at the Margaritaville Beach Resort Fort Myers made it effortless to go from “let’s check it out” to toes in the sand in minutes. There were several restaurants on property, so we never even got in our car. That plus live music, fire pits, the spa, and lawn games made it easy to want to stay put and relax.

What stood out most wasn’t just the scenery… it was how easy it was to actually be together here. No rushing or overplanning. That’s the true Floridays feeling for me. Laid-back, a little unexpected, and exactly what we didn’t know we needed. 🌴☀️

When the Smoky Mountain heat gets unbearable, we h When the Smoky Mountain heat gets unbearable, we head to Pigeon Forge Snow. ❄️ #sponsored

One of our favorite family activities in Pigeon Forge because you can snow tube year-round, rain or shine, without worrying about the weather outside.

My daughter could do the tubing hill over and over, and the indoor snow play area makes it even more fun. Honestly such a good break from the summer heat. Plus, it’s super close to nearby attractions like Dollywood and several mountain coasters.

✨ Meet Minnie before you even enter the restaurant and get photos with her + a photopass photographer.
✨ Food is all you can eat. Minnie waffles, bacon, eggs, pastries, fruit, and more!
✨ Multiple characters visit your table throughout the meal.
✨ Reservations are a must and can book up quickly!

This was such a fun way to start a park day and meet several characters without spending part of the day waiting in character lines.

Getting in a walk or run when I can. Actually drinking my water. Sticking to a skincare routine instead of overthinking it. Paying attention to my hair and scalp instead of just throwing it up and moving on. Nothing extreme, just consistency in the basics.

I’ve also been using Mochi Health for personalized skincare and hair support, and it’s made it way easier to stay on track without guessing what my skin or hair needs.

Dancing Bear Appalachian Bistro took part in Cork to Fork on the Tennessee Whiskey Trail, and every bite felt like a love letter to local flavor. From bourbon-glazed pork belly to a warm cinnamon-bourbon bread pudding that honestly didn’t stand a chance at our table… this was one of those meals you remember.

Mountain views, chef-driven dishes, and whiskey worked right into the menu in the best way. 😋
