A Petting Zoo, Painting Project Kind of Weekend

May 23, 2016 | baby, family

This weekend did not suck. We were again blessed with great weather, and my parents decided to come into town Thursday afternoon. We picked up Emma Kate from daycare and went to the third week of Swing into Summer.

may15

Except this week trumped all, because they had a petting zoo.

may7

Animals?!? WHERE!

may

Girlfriend went CRAZY. She petted, talked to, squealed at, and played with all the animals. She was so overwhelmed she didn’t know which one to go to, so kept hopping around from one to the other.

may1

may2

One of the workers handed her a brush so she went around brushing the animals. She is FEARLESS and walked right up to this guy. II t was adorable.

may10

Bobby got her (after a few failed attempts) to feed the animals out of her hand and she kept wanting to do it over and over.

may9

The pig was a big hit, too.may11

This little goat was only 7 weeks old. It still drank from a bottle and every time it made noise EK jumped and squealed. I think we would have stayed all night if it were up to her.

may8

My parents had fun watching her interact with the animals, dance to the music, and attempt to eat a snowball.

may12

may13

It may or may not have ended up all over the ground.

may14

I’m sad we only have one more week of Swing into summer, we have been having a blast!

Friday morning I went with my dad to Lowes and we bought some paint. I have been wanting to paint my dining room table for YEARS and since my dad is a really good painter, I signed him up for the job without his knowledge. Thanks dad!

Apparently I am NOT a good painter because after helping with the first coat for primer, he said he would finish the rest by himself. Sad times. Anyway, this table is old yall, like I ate off it when I was a toddler. Despite it’s age, it was in good shape. I was not about to shell out hundreds of dollars for a new one when this one was plenty sturdy, but I was willing to buy $45 worth of paint to make it look brand new.

may3

It turned out GREAT, and we decided to leave the leaf out to make the room look bigger. I plan to do a full post one exactly what we used because people have been asking me, so stay tuned! I’m super happy with how it turned out, the room looks so much brighter!

may18

Friday afternoon my mom and I did a little shopping and stopped at Starbucks for a pick me up.

may4

We went back home to pick up EK and the boys before heading to our favorite Mexican restaurant, Papitos, for dinner.

Saturday morning I ran some errands with my dad, and then we sat outside and played in the water with Emma Kate. The original forecast called for rain all weekend but the weather was awesome.

may17

Saturday after lunch, my parents and I went and looked at a few of the parade of homes houses. A bunch are really close to my house so we were able to check out several before they had to drive back to Louisiana.

After they left, Emma Kate played in the water again and we just enjoyed the evening at home. Sunday morning was church and more relaxing and enjoying the sunshine. Temperatures are getting up to the upper 80’s this week so this may have been our last cooler weekend until fall (nnooo!)

may5

may6

Another great weekend in the books. So glad I have my blog to keep track of these great memories!

QOTD: What did you do this weekend? Ever painted furniture?

That table turned out great! I didn’t even realize it was the same one.

Watching little kids interact with animals is so fun. EK looks like she was having so much fun. I can’t believe how big she’s getting. She’s no longer a baby, she’s becoming a little girl! I bet that makes you a tad sad?

Yes it does make me sad! Some days we look at her and say “wow she looks like a big kid today!”

We didn’t set out looking for a “perfect” trip… we We didn’t set out looking for a “perfect” trip… we just needed a break from the noise.
What we found in Florida was something better than that. #ad

Our first stop in Auburndale was all about slowing down in the best way. We stayed in a cozy tiny home at Camp Margaritaville (you can also stay in an RV!). We enjoyed coffee on the porch, our daughter loved the pool and waterslide (there is even a splash zone for the littles!), and at night we slowed things down with s’mores instead of screens. It felt like nature + comfort + family time all finally in the same place. They have so many other amenities like mini golf, golf cart rentals, pickleball, a playground, cornhole, and more. Nearby, we explored the Florida Children’s Museum and had incredible food and drinks at Smith’s American Tavern and Black & Brew Coffee.

Then, we headed over to Fort Myers to experience a completely different side of the state. Shelling walks at sunrise, beach volleyball, pool cabanas, and the kind of Gulf sunsets that make everyone go quiet for a minute. Direct beach access at the Margaritaville Beach Resort Fort Myers made it effortless to go from “let’s check it out” to toes in the sand in minutes. There were several restaurants on property, so we never even got in our car. That plus live music, fire pits, the spa, and lawn games made it easy to want to stay put and relax.

What stood out most wasn’t just the scenery… it was how easy it was to actually be together here. No rushing or overplanning. That’s the true Floridays feeling for me. Laid-back, a little unexpected, and exactly what we didn’t know we needed. 🌴☀️

When the Smoky Mountain heat gets unbearable, we h When the Smoky Mountain heat gets unbearable, we head to Pigeon Forge Snow. ❄️ #sponsored

One of our favorite family activities in Pigeon Forge because you can snow tube year-round, rain or shine, without worrying about the weather outside.

My daughter could do the tubing hill over and over, and the indoor snow play area makes it even more fun. Honestly such a good break from the summer heat. Plus, it’s super close to nearby attractions like Dollywood and several mountain coasters.

Here is my favorite in park Disneyland character e Here is my favorite in park Disneyland character experience: The Plaza Inn character breakfast. Here are a few things to know:

✨ Meet Minnie before you even enter the restaurant and get photos with her + a photopass photographer.
✨ Food is all you can eat. Minnie waffles, bacon, eggs, pastries, fruit, and more!
✨ Multiple characters visit your table throughout the meal.
✨ Reservations are a must and can book up quickly!

This was such a fun way to start a park day and meet several characters without spending part of the day waiting in character lines.

Getting in a walk or run when I can. Actually drinking my water. Sticking to a skincare routine instead of overthinking it. Paying attention to my hair and scalp instead of just throwing it up and moving on. Nothing extreme, just consistency in the basics.

I’ve also been using Mochi Health for personalized skincare and hair support, and it’s made it way easier to stay on track without guessing what my skin or hair needs.

Dancing Bear Appalachian Bistro took part in Cork to Fork on the Tennessee Whiskey Trail, and every bite felt like a love letter to local flavor. From bourbon-glazed pork belly to a warm cinnamon-bourbon bread pudding that honestly didn’t stand a chance at our table… this was one of those meals you remember.

Mountain views, chef-driven dishes, and whiskey worked right into the menu in the best way. 😋
