Pregnancy Update: Week 17

April 23, 2014 | fitness, pregnancy, running

Another week has gone by! I can’t believe in just two weeks I have my anatomy scan (but we are not finding out the sex until our gender party that Saturday). It’s been fun to see people due around the same time as me starting to find out what they are having, I can’t believe it’s so close for me, too!

17weeks bump

Let’s compare week ten with week 17.

10weeks bump17weeks bump

I feel like I look ssooo sickly and tired in my week 10 picture, because well…I was feeling pretty crappy! Let’s take a look at what is going on this week.

Symptoms: This acne is going to be the death of me….and round ligament pain still…even when I just power walk. I am not one of the lucky ones who can run miles upon miles with no issues! Also, I feel like I have to pee all. the. time. I start running. Have to pee. Doesn’t matter if I just went. Sinus issues/stuffed up nose and ears but not really a huge deal. Occasional headache, but not often. Round ligament and acne are really my two main ones right now. I know last week I talked about feeling lightheaded and weak in the mornings even after eating, and I am happy to report this ha gotten better! I am forcing myself to eat MORE calories in the morning and also eating more iron rich foods. Hoping it was just a phase!

Baby’s Size: Turnip

Maternity Clothes: Haven’t bought any more. Trying to make do with what I have but the amount of regular tops I can wear is getting less and less!

Stretch Marks: Still ok!

Sleep: Pretty good this week. Getting up on average once a night to go to the bathroom.

Miss Anything? Not feeling bad about caffeine. I would love a big starbucks, fully caffeinated iced coffee.

Cravings: Same. Cold and frozen things. Also, all the chocolate. All of it.

Aversions: Still not crazy about veggies (but really, was I before?) and large portions of any one thing, especially dense things like chicken or beef.

Looking Forward to: Feeling baby kicks! Hopefully soon!

What I’m Loving: That I finally feel like I look pregnant and not just chubby in the middle, and that while I still don’t CRAVE a ton of food, I am eating better and better!

Workouts: I took it easy the first half of the week because I had the big 10k on Saturday which was SUPER fun (recap tomorrow). My time was slow but I did it and am proud of myself! Back to walking with occasional running until this round ligament pain (hopefully) goes away.

I pulled a round ligament in prenatal yoga, (thanks to relaxin thought I could stretch a little further) around 20 weeks and I am still hurting from it now at 37 weeks. I continued to run at 20 weeks, and wore a support belt and for the princess half at 29 weeks I had my belly taped too. Try a support belt during the day it might help the pain. Motherhood has a cheap one that worked fine for me during my runs. Not the full size the smaller one. Good luck!

I didn’t race but I did 1.5 miles on Friday, which is the longest distance I’ve done since Disney thanks to my knee. Can’t wait to read the 10k recap tomorrow.

I’m 18 weeks and starting to accept that running may be over for me….like soon. I just can’t handle the constant pressure on my bladder and the OMG I’M GOING TO PEE MY PANTS feeling the entire time. Also, I was told getting pregnant would clear up my skin. I don’t appreciate being lied to.

    • Heather says

      April 30, 2014 at 8:30 am

Since you mentioned wanting caffeine not sure if you know that recent studies have shown that having up to 150mg caffeine a day is ok during pregnancy without having any effects on the fetus…so if you didn’t know that you have the fully caffeinated drink you’ve been craving! Just looked up the caffeine in a venti & grande iced coffee which is too much but you can have a tall cause it only has 120mg or if you like iced lattes a grande is only 150mg. My best friend had a cup of coffee a day when she was pregnant last year and my little niece is perfect!

    • Heather says

      April 30, 2014 at 8:32 am

Thanks! The problem is I drink a cup of half calf every morning when i wake up plus I eat chocolate every day so I am already having some so a regular coffee on top of that would be too much 🙁 Maybe one day I will be able to make it 20 minutes to starbucks with no morning coffee but it’s doubtful lol!

I had various versions of round ligament pain my whole pregnancy. It was the worst at the beginning and by 20 weeks it was sporadic. You are almost there!

I never really had round ligament pain with either pregnancy. I did have heartburn/acid reflux with my second, which got pretty miserable at the end. The peeing got WAY worse during the 3rd trimester.

I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just o I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just okay.” Like, fine in a pinch… but never something I craved. 👀

But then this little picnic happened—just me, my girl, and a sweet treat we both loved enough to fight over the last bite. 😅

We’ve been trying to be more mindful with food choices lately (especially with summer travel coming up), and I grabbed these So Delicious treats at Kroger kind of on a whim. The new packaging caught my eye, but it was the taste that totally surprised us. Creamy. Indulgent. No weird aftertaste. And no, we’re not fully dairy-free—and we still loved them.

It’s one of those little swaps that doesn’t feel like giving anything up.

And that? That’s a win for both of us. ✨@So_Delicious

🚨 Homeschool decision!! If you have been aroun 🚨 Homeschool decision!!

If you have been around here since Christmas time, then you know we pulled Emma Kate out of her private school after the first semester and put her in a hybrid homeschool for the spring. The main reason being we wanted more absences than the school allowed.

What is a hybrid? In our case, she went to a school all day 3 days a week, and we taught her at home two days a week.

It seemed like the best of both worlds, not having absences count since we were also her teachers, being able to stay home some, sleep in, and travel.

Well, it wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies. For one, the school we sent her to ended up not being what we thought. We were told being absent wouldn’t be a problem, but it became clear very early on her teacher was not a fan and she was not kind or accommodating to Emma Kate. There’s a lot of other reasons we didn’t blown the school I won’t go into. (If you are local and considering hybrid feel free to dm me and I will share my concerns and grievances.)

Teaching your kid is hard. There were lots of tears and frustrations, and she got bored since Bobby and I also work from home/I’m not a stay at hoke mom. We couldn’t just sit with her all day and teach her with our crazy long hours owning two businesses.

It was tough to keep a schedule and while getting to travel a lot was great, she didn’t thrive on not having a routine and struggled with the randomness of everything.

She is also a very social only child who missed her friends and also wants to play sports for her school.

In the end while there were a lot of pros to hybrid homeschool, the cons outweighed them for us so we are returning to her old school in the fall.

Am I glad we did it? Yes! I always would have wondered otherwise and now we know. We will still be pulling her out of school some to travel in the fall, just not as much.

If you have any questions feel free to drop them in the comments below and I will be happy to answer the best I can! 🩷

Tucked away just outside of Gatlinburg, Alpine Hav Tucked away just outside of Gatlinburg, Alpine Haven was everything we wanted in a mountain getaway—and then some. ⛰️

This luxury cabin has 4 spacious bedrooms (including one with built-in bunks that my daughter loved) and 4 full bathrooms, making it perfect for a family trip or group vacation.

We spent our days soaking in the hot tub with mountain views, lounging on the deck by the fireplace with coffee in hand, and playing pool in the game room.

The cabin even has its own private sauna and steam room—YES, really! It felt like a full-on spa experience right in the woods. ✨

And one of the best surprises? It has its own playground, which was a total hit with with daughter and such a bonus for keeping little ones entertained.

We were just minutes from downtown Gatlinburg, but honestly, we barely wanted to leave. If you’re planning a Smoky Mountains trip, Alpine Haven is that perfect mix of cozy, modern, and wow-worthy. 💫
